President Obama on Tuesday said he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks August 3 if Democrats and Republicans in Washington do not reach an agreement on reducing the deficit in the coming weeks.
“I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven’t resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it,” Mr. Obama said in an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, according to excerpts released by CBS News.
What was that about sharing the burden you little lying prick? Why not cut the budget RIGHT ACROSS THE BOARD? Why not lay off federal workers? Why not require all fed employees not contributing ANYTHING to health and retirement to do so? Noooooo.
The Obama administration and many economists have warned of economic catastrophe if the United States does not raise the amount it is legally allowed to borrow by August 2.
Lawmakers from both parties want to use the threat of that deadline to work out a broader package on long-term deficit reduction, with Republicans looking to cut trillions of dollars in federal spending, while Democrats are pushing for a more “balanced approach,” which would include both spending cuts and increased revenue through taxes.

This household can certainly survive Mr. AOW's missing his disability check(s). Hell, he didn't get one for 6 months during the qualifying period.
Now, if regular Social Security checks don't go out, those with Security Medicare B will also not be paying their Medicare premiums, as those are deducted from Social Security checks. How the hell will the doctors and the hospitals and the nurses and the nursing homes manage?
Honestly, I hope that the damn checks don't go out. The rail will be needed before November 2012.

I got news for him. Many of those receiving regular Social Security are also still paying mortagegs. Stop the checks and see what happens to your already collapsing housing market.

Firefighters : 304,682. A TOTAL OF 7% OF STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. Any talk about letting the other 93% go: NO. Any talk about letting any of the 700,000 postie go : NO. Police and fireman being first to go is just an attempt to run the pressure up so people will say - "Please, please. We'll pay any amount of taxes you ask for." Too many Americans couldn't take care of themselves if they had to. And they certainly don't know that the Supreme Court has ruled that it is not the job of the police to protect citizens. (Policemen are basically historians who record data after the fact ie when seconds count the police are only minutes away.)
The lying sacks of crap in DC (to quote Denninger) won't do anything that makes sense.
They'd better be careful. Old folks will march on DC and throw their Depends at the White House and it won't be pretty.
