Pictorial history of Turkish-German forces

Lenny Ben-David has done some research about the Turkish-German alliance during WW1. There's a slideshow with at least 5 pictures available at the link, and more from the author can also be found at Israel's History, Picture a Day.

I have been arguing for ages that this burqa thing is a recent Saudi invention, I traveled extensively in the middle East and Africa 1960-75 and I hardly saw veils. The photos give a link to the Library of congress and the first thing I found there was the Abdul Hamid II collection, Ottoman empire 1880-93.
Right on the very first page are a lot of photos of girls schools in the caliphate, not a veil, let alone a burqa in sight.
