INSTAPUNDIT: TRUMP'S ENEMIES ARE NOW ROLLING BACK ACCUSATIONS OF TRUMP'S COLLUSION WITH RUSSIA

First, John Hinderaker at Powerline says it is very unlikely that Trump had did not confirmation of spying before he made the accusations:
Trump has had his people (some of them, anyway) in place at the Department of Justice for a month now. Attorney General Sessions, or someone working for him, certainly could find out what FISA warrants have been applied for and obtained. Sessions was with Trump over the weekend. Trump tweeted that he had “Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found.”
Maybe on Friday evening, Sessions (or someone) confirmed to the president that press reports about the Obama administration seeking and ultimately obtaining a FISA warrant were true. Then Trump stewed about it considered his strategic options overnight, and let loose his tweets early on Saturday morning.
Is that what happened? I don’t know. But, given that he now has people in place in the Justice Department who can find out what FISA warrants have been applied for and issued, it would have been incredibly stupid to make the accusation without first verifying that it is true. And, unless Trump was flat-out lying, his “just found out” suggests that this is what occurred.
From Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit:
Hypothesis: The spying-on-Trump thing is worse than we even imagine, and once it was clear Hillary had lost and it would inevitably come out, the Trump/Russia collusion talking point was created as a distraction.
Now it’s being rowed back because the talk of “transcripts” supports the spying-on-Trump storyline.
Will we ever know? Maybe, if there’s a proper investigation into Obama Administration political spying.
Meanwhile, the rumors being floated about Trump are being retracted, and once everyone from Comey to Clapper has denied that he was ever under investigation, future “leaks” will come pre-discredited.

When you msgd me this afternoon I was thinking about this. There may be nothing new today but he just fired a ferocious broadside and is waiting for the damage to be clear. Meanwhile he has scared the shit out of the Dems who are rethinking their whole tack while keeping their heads down waiting for the next volley.

Well, he's a better strategic thinker than I am, so I have no guesses as to what's coming next.

My guess is that Trump was under heavy surveillance and since it was assumed that Hillary would be the next POTUS it would all be conveniently covered up.

Is it also possible that Maxine Waters and others clamoring for "impeachment" only a few weeks into the new term are bat shit crazy at this point? I think Trump is about to completely bury what is left of the Democratic leadership.

They have picked the fight with the wrong man. The pale horse is seated in the White House. Apocalypse. We are about to witness a political Apocalypse.

From what we have seen of Waters Pelosi Schumer et al. bat shit crazy is an understatement. It makes their treatment of W look like a steamy love affair.

Or soft core porn...

I think all those loons screaming impeachment knew about the surveillance and assume the NSA has got the goods on Trump. Might be Trump has got the goods on them. We will see. At any rate it's not gonna be business as usual in DC for a while.

TLEP,
My assessment as well.

This ain't Trump's first time at the rodeo -- as in THIS.

Limbaugh yesterday (emphases mine):

I think he is not just tweeting to the American public and the news media, I think Trump confounds these people because he is always a step or two ahead, he plays the long game. And I think in addition to whatever else these tweets are intended to accomplish, it is also a direct line to the Democrats, to the Obama administration. Trump is signaling that they don't face the usual feckless bunch of opponents who never fight you back. You've got me here and if you're going to keep lying about me, I'm not going to sit here and take it."
