Kobe Bryant Sparks Controversy Again!!!

I love Kobe Bryant because I love the Lakers.  But, whereas some Lakers have made that equation difficult to maintain, Kobe makes it easy.   He has consistently been a patriot, talking on and on about his pride in representing America in the olympics.  As such, I have written about Kobe being a great culturist on this blog before.

But now Kobe has come out against the Miami Stinkers' knee-jerk, race-based support for Trayvon Martin.  This view confounds all the race-solidarity kooks that run in our circles.  Kobe was raised in Italy.  He avoided liberal indoctrination.  He is as patriotic as anyone who reads this blog.

UK Telegraph reader says Law Society should withdraw its approval for sharia

A correspondent to the UK Telegraph speaks truth to power, but for now, it could all be wishful thinking:

SIR – Sadikur Rahman expresses concern at the Law Society’s choice to issue a practice note to solicitors for drawing up “sharia-compliant” wills that conform to Islamic law. If we are serious about having the same law for all, then parallel legal systems must be prohibited, including all religious courts and tribunals.

Sharia laws are inherently discriminatory. This was recognised by Britain’s highest court in 2008, when the government attempted to remove a woman and child to Lebanon. In a 5—0 ruling, the Law Lords argued that there was no place in sharia for the equal treatment of the sexes and it would be a “flagrant breach” of the European Convention on Human Rights for the government to remove a woman to Lebanon, where she would lose custody of her son because of sharia-inspired family law.

Unfortunately, in the same year, Lord Chief Justice Phillips, who later became President of the British Supreme Court, mistakenly argued the opposite during a speech, “Equality before the law”, at the East London Muslim Centre: “There is no reason why principles of sharia law, or any other religious code, should not be the basis for mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution.” This doubtless encouraged advocates of sharia-compliant laws and the Law Society.

The Law Society must withdraw its discriminatory and divisive guidance.

But alas, knowing how this country works, it could all be wishful thinking. The National Secular Society says this step by the Law Society is only creating division, and the UK Mirror says it only means less human rights, especially for women.

The first image of this Captain's 'family' implies his YOUNGEST son is in the photo. That image appears to be of a young boy who is less than five years old. Yet the quote is provided by a young man of twenty six years of age, Ahmad Seth, claiming to be his youngest son. The Captain appears to be the same age in both photos.

Staunton, March 26 – By his annexation of Crimea, Vladimir Putin has re-awakened the imperial dimension of Russian messianism, a force that has been contained since 1991 but that now will lead to ever-broader conflicts that will lead either to a Russian victory over all its supposed enemies or the collapse of Russia, Vladimir Pastukhov says. 

But at the same time, another form of Russian messianism, a concern with universal social justice, is also being re-awakened, and that represents a potentially even more serious challenge to Putin’s system than the imperial messianism which because of his victory in Crimea is making him into “the messiah” for many Russians, the St. Antony’s College expert adds. 

In an article in Novaya Gazeta 25 March, Pastukhov points out that Russia today is populated by “a different people” than it was “all of a month ago,” a people who are “inspired” by a vision which gives them the messianic role that they as a nation have always craved . 

“Russians do not fulfil a mission, all the more so when it is unfulfillable; they live it and are its function,” the historian says. Instead, “the missionary spirit was and apparently remains the moving force of Russian history.” It is part of “the Russian subconscious,” and Putin has “re-awakened” in Russians this “beast.” 

What is surprising and requires comment, Pastukhov says, is that this messianism was asleep for “a quarter of a century,” an “insanely long” period “for the Russian cultural code” and one that reflects “the deep depression and historical shock which the Russian people experienced after the disintegration of the USSR.” 

But if the messianic spirit was sleeping, it did not disappear, and one can identify the forces that have roused it. First among them is the West and the United States which behaved in ways that have given rise to the Weimar syndrome which has awoken in the Russian soul the very same instincts which moved the Germans after their defeat in World War I.” 

The winners of the Cold War didn’t think it necessary to create a new Marshall Plan, he says. They didn’t think they had to meet the interests of Russia even half-way on “any of the issues that were psychologically significant” for Russians either within their country or in their former allies. Moreover, the West acted in an extremely “casuistic” way with regard to following “the norms of international law.” It did when it suited its interests but not when it suited Russia’s or anyone else’s. And others, like Ukraine, also made a contribution to re-awakening Russian messianism by their actions as well.

Are we all aware that THIS happened on Monday, March 24, 2014, on a destoyer at the Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia?

NORFOLK, Va. — The civilian accused of killing a military police officer on a destroyer docked at a naval base here may have gotten on base with federally approved credentials, but he was not authorized to be there, the Navy said Wednesday.

The Navy did not identify the man, who was killed after he overpowered a guard Monday on the USS Mahan, and said the details of his access to Naval Station Norfolk remain under investigation.

"His transportation workers ID card was valid," said Capt. Robert Clark, the base's commanding officer. "He did not have authorization to be on my base."

The investigation, which is ongoing, has not unearthed any links to terrorist groups nor evidence that any attack was planned, said Mario Palomino, special agent in charge at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service Norfolk field office.

Nor have investigators determined a motive, Palomino said. The suspect had no known ties to the ship or anyone on the ship, which has a crew of about 300....

Two people are dead: the sailor pictured at the top of this blog post and the perpetrator.

As of the time of this posting, why we do not have the shooter's name? My first thought: perhaps his digital footprint is being scrubbed before his name is released.

Could the Peace Process Be Destroying Israel’s Legitimacy?

In the world of hasbara–Israel advocacy–it is commonly suggested that the best way to make Israel’s case is by emphasizing that Israel wants peace: pointing to Israel’s willingness to negotiate, its withdrawals from territory, its evacuation of settlements, its prisoner releases, the settlement freezes, the moves to help establish and strengthen the Palestinian Authority. It’s true that Israel has done all of these things, but how is Israel’s standing in the world doing? Have peace talks and the surrender of territory done anything to placate those who only ever respond to these moves by calling for still more Israeli concessions? The hard truth is that today, in many circles, Israel’s legitimacy is in a worse place than it’s ever been. Israel negotiates and concedes, yet the movement to boycott and demonize Israel has only grown increasingly strident.

Israel has been locked down in the latest round of negotiations for months now. To make these talks happen Israel was first compelled to consent to the release of 104 convicted Palestinian terrorists. In the past Israel has been forced to freeze Jewish communities in the West Bank and even projects in Jerusalem. In both cases these concessions were to no avail. President Obama and Secretary Kerry regularly threaten Israel that should this current round of allegedly last-chance negotiations fail, Israel will be cast asunder to meet its fate in a cold world of boycotts and diplomatic isolation. Concessions and goodwill from Israel are rarely cause for praise from Western allies, they have simply come to be expected. 

The boycott threat that Obama and Kerry try to use to panic Israel into doing whatever they instruct is really a case in point. Israel doesn’t await a wave of calls for boycotts if these talks fail; it faces them now. If anything, while this past round of Israeli concessions and negotiations have dragged on, the call for the boycott of Israel has only become louder. Across Europe and on American campuses, the campaign for boycotts is becoming frenetic. Oxfam’s attack on Scarlett Johansson and SodaStream made the headlines but there have been many cases that didn’t. In Europe a Dutch pension fund and several Scandinavian banks have already divested from Israel, while on both sides of the Atlantic the student campaign for boycotts has become particularly ugly. As Jonathan Tobin wrote about yesterday, the BDS campaign has even come to propagate racist hate speech. During a boycott vote only last night at King’s College, London, Jewish students were first hectored and reduced to tears, then mocked and taunted by BDS students.

At the very least, the fact that all of this goes on while Israel is in negotiations to try and end its presence in the West Bank should convince us that this has nothing to do with the “occupation.”

Omar Barghouti, one of the leading founders of BDS, has been unequivocal in saying that the creation of two states would not end calls for boycotts.

Then what is the purpose of the boycotts?

It should be obvious. The purpose is what the purpose has always been. The settlement called Tel Aviv.

I see that Kings college has divested, and the University of Michigan is going bonkers on this issue (Pro-Israel Students Called ‘Kike,’ ‘Dirty Jew’ at University of Michigan). Jews arounf the world, even those who despise Israel and especially Americans who happen to be Jewish need to understand something:

Jews are not the target of hate because of what Israel does or does not do. Israel is the target of such hate because it is full of Jews

House Armed Services Committee send letter to Obama: WORRY ABOUT THE BALTICS

Republican members of the House Armed Services Committee late Wednesday sent a classified letter to the White House expressing concern about unfolding developments.

An unclassified version obtained by CNN said committee members feel “urgency and alarm, based on new information in the committee’s possession.”

The committee said there was “deep apprehension that Moscow may invade eastern and southern Ukraine, pressing west to Transdniestria and also seek land grabs in the Baltics.”

The Baltic states ARE NATO. Any land action there would be Article 5, requiring US and NATO action to defend them, OR the end of NATO.

Reid: Obamacare extension necessary because people don’t get how to use that internet thingamajig

OMG:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) said the fault of struggling to sign up on the Obamacare exchanges didn’t lie with the faulty website, but with the people who weren’t “educated on how to use the Internet.”

Explaining the reasoning behind the latest Obamacare delay, Reid said too many people just didn’t know to use their computer properly and needed more time. Apparently, it had nothing to do with the well-documented failings of the website that have embarrassed the White House for months.

God, please, save us from these people. Please.
