(AP) - Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal says that a truce with Israel is finished and is appealing to all Palestinian factions to resume attacks. Israeli tank shells ripped through a residential neighborhood in the northern Gaza Strip early Wednesday, killing at least 18 members of an extended family, including eight children, and wounding dozens of others, Palestinian health officials said.
"There must be a roaring reaction so that we avenge all those vicitms," Mashaal said.
The military wing of the Palestinians' ruling group called on Muslims around the world to attack U.S. targets, a call disavowed by the Hamas-led Palestinian government.
(AP) Militants will answer the deaths with "deeds, not words," Mashaal told a news conference in the Syrian capital.
"The truce (with Israel) ended at the end of 2005," Mashaal said. "The armed struggle is free to resume, and the resistance is dictated by local circumstances."
The truce formally ended last year but had remained in effect.

Besides the fact that there never was a truce (ask any kid in Sderot)...
It's time we told them we don't want any truce. We want permanent peace. If such is possible only through their demise, so be it.
And my opinion from the American angle: Bush failed not because he was too aggressive in the Middle East, but quite the opposite, because he wasn't aggressive enough. Because he caved in to PC sentiment from Day One after 9/11, and refused to take steps to make Iraq a non-Muslim country. Both out of consideration toward the leftist cries of horror saying, "Don't make this a war against Islam!" Now we see it did his party a fat lot of good. Just as Israel's concessions toward international opinion didn't get it anywhere better.
Lesson learned: damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
I whole-heartedly agree with Zionist Youngster.
We don't neeed no steeeeeenkeeeeng truces.
Gaza looks to be nice as a greenhouse center with 3 million tents just the other side of the border in Egypt.
This is a farce, bring it to an end.
Quite right. I remember today thinking while reading about the alleged killing of 18 Palestinian civilians by an Israeli tank shell - that it might very well have been staged. I just don't know.
I know that the Palestians lie continually. I know the Israelis may have hit a civilian target by mistake. I know the Palestinians prefer civilian targets. I know the Israelis would never kill 7 children on purpose. I know about Muslim terrorism. Hamas would not hesitate one moment killing Israeli children. I know the Israelis will try to find out what happened and will punish criminal behaviour by its forces. I know the Palestinians would award terror acts.
And yet I know the MSM will use this situation to the outmost and the Israelis will be labeled monsters and terrorists.
So damn public opinion and do what is needed. There can be no peace living together. Build that wall or whatever it takes to stop the Islamists. Israel is defending its very survival.
Well, a Muslim offered temporary truce... is a precursor for a follow-up final solution. Besides the fact that it wasn't even a truce per se.
There's only one way around - the total and devastating defeat of the "Palestinians", Syrians, Lebanese and whoever the hell else would decide to join the party.
