WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Small fires and smoke have caused problems at several Metro stations tonight, and two remain closed because of smoke in tunnels on different rail lines.
1) Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says the station at Reagan National Airport is closed because of smoke coming from a storage room in a nearby tunnel. That station is on the Blue and Yellow lines.
She says trains are being turned back on either side of the airport, making for some significant disruptions to service.
2) Also in Virginia, the Huntington station in Fairfax County was closed for more than an hour because of smoke in the tunnel where trains are stored at the end of the Yellow line.
3) And in downtown Washington, the Farragut North station remains closed because of a burning cross tie in the tunnel. That station is on the Red Line.
Farbstein says the only connection among the fires seems to be that they all happened at the same time. She says there's nothing suspicious about the fires at this point.
Probably nothing. But then again it could be Bush trying to establish fascism.
