The fiesta will take place mainly in the territory of Schaerbeek and Brussels City, and for a few hundred meters, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. By the way, there's nothing in the story to that illustrates how Philippe Moureaux feels about Islam or Muslims, other than the title, so this may have more to do with cowardice than anything else.
Maybe there are just some disgusting things that go on in at these parades that the mayor does not want in his city.

I guess its possible that he feels that way, but based on what's in this story, it sounds like he's stopping it out of fear of violence.

That's not a gay parade, it's a (straight) techno parade, a rave on wheels. Do you remember the Love Parade? It's like that.
The Love Parade started in Berlin in the 90s, grew to more than a million participants and spread to other cities around the world, like Vienna, Tel Aviv and Cape Town.
A couple years ago there was a disaster at a Love Parade in Germany where a bunch of people were accidently crushed to death in a tunnel by the surging crowd. Then the founder of the LP said that's it, no more, the LP can't go on after this.
So this City Parade is like a continuation of the LP under a new name. It's full of straight white party people, not gays. The Muslims don't want them partying and fornicating in "their" area during Ramadan. Thanks again, immigration enthusiasts.
I was at the 2001 LP in Cape Town, on the "Trancentral" float with hot dancing chicks galore. Cape Town has a huge Muslim population, including along the parade route, but there were no problems or controversy. These dhimmified European politicians can't wait to surrender to Islam, even if the Muslims aren't demanding surrender (yet).
And another thing, Leftists will line up to defend the rights of their precious gays, but who will defend the rights of the ecstasy-fuelled straight white party people?

Nah, I'm retired from raving. I've put my glow sticks in storage and gave away my pacifier to a needy baby ;)
But, if the Love Parade (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) ever comes to my town, thousands of scantily-clad hotties will be there. And so will I :)
As I understand it, the pacifiers and various suckers ravers enjoy have more to do with a dry-mouth problem that arises from ingestion of Ecstacy. I've never taken the drug, but that's how it has been explained to me.
Hmm, I've heard that the pacifiers are to prevent them grinding their teeth under the influence of drugs. Who knows?
