They must be very proud.

In the last 24 hours leftist pro-union protesters have…
Assaulted and knocked down former Republican Congressional candidate Marty Lamb.

Degraded female politicians on the way to vote in the Kansas House chamber.

Raided Wisconsin Republican offices.

Shouted down a Wisconsin Republican state senator during a press conference.

Threatened to hit an “a$$hole white boy” in the head.

Held a rally comparing Governor Christie to tyrant Moammar Gaddafi.

And erupted in chants of “shame” after the Wisconsin Assembly passed the governor’s budget repair bill.

What awful thugs.
Of course, the state-run media will not be reporting on any of these incidents in their evening reports.

Iraq's largest oil refinery shut by bombing
Sat Feb 26, 2011 10:47am GMT

By Sabah al-Bazee

BAIJI, Iraq, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Militants attacked Iraq's largest oil refinery on Saturday, killing four workers and detonating bombs that touched off a raging fire and shut down the plant in northern Iraq, officials said.

In the southern town of Samawa, a second refinery was shut down by fire but officials said initial reports indicated it was started by a technical failure rather than an insurgent attack.

The militants planted explosives at a kerosene and benzene production unit at the northern refinery in the town of Baiji, a former al Qaeda stronghold 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, the governor of Salahuddin province, Ahmed al-Jubouri, said.

"The refinery has completely stopped," Jubouri told Reuters. "It's a big loss for the whole country. All Iraqi cities depend on its production."

Oil Minister Abdul-Kareem Luaibi said the "terrorist attack" hit only one production unit, which was under maintenance, and the remaining units have not been damaged.
"The attack is part of a terrorist plan, which targets Iraq's oil facilities and aims to undermine the Oil Ministry after it succeeded in supplying enough oil products to meet domestic needs," he said in a statement read to Reuters.

The blast, which happened before dawn, sparked a fire that was later brought under control, a police source said. It took about five hours and up to 50 fire trucks to contain the blaze.

The damaged unit, known as the North Refinery, has a production capacity of 150,000 barrels per day, a Baiji official said, adding the damage has been too severe to fix in few days.

"Fixing the damage will take long time. We are not talking about days, the damage is too severe," said the Baiji official, who asked not to be named.

"Hopefully in the next few days we can partially restart the refinery," he said, adding that the plant has enough stock to cover domestic needs for at least seven days.

Iraq does not export any oil products as it uses all of its production for power generation and domestic consumption.

The country's capacity to refine fuels like diesel and gasoline has been ravaged by under-investment, and it has been forced since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion to buy imported fuels to meet the growing gap between supply and domestic demand.

The Samawa refinery, a 30,000 barrel-per-day facility was shut down when fire broke out in one of its main storage areas on Saturday, officials said.

"The refinery was shut down after the fire as a preemptive measure and it's expected to restart in two to three days," a source at the refinery told Reuters.
Baghdad has signed multi-billion deals with international oil companies to boost output capacity to 12 million barrels a day in seven years, rivalling top oil exporter Saudi Arabia.

But everything depends on whether the OPEC member can secure its vital oilfields, refineries and other infrastructure against insurgents and militia.

Overall violence in Iraq has dropped sharply since the peak of sectarian conflict in 2006-07 but attacks still occur daily.

Several years ago al Qaeda had enough control over the Baiji area that it was able to intimidate refinery workers and hijack its refined products. It sold the products to neighbouring countries and used the profits to finance the insurgency.

Baiji, which normally operates at about 70 percent of its 310,000 bpd capacity, and produces 11 million litres of gasoline, 7 million litres of benzene and 4.5 million litres of kerosene a day. The refinery was last shut in August for two days due to an electrical fault.

Iraq has eight oil refineries with a capacity of 659,000 bpd. It produces about 453,000 bpd of refined products and uses 589,000 bpd, according to the OPEC website. (Additional reporting by Ahmed Rasheed in Baghdad and Aref Mohammed in Basra; writing by Rania El Gamal and Jim Loney)

Time Magazine Declares Non-Muslims to be "Kuffar"

Definition of Kafir

From Citizen Warrior:

A kafir is a person who is not a Muslim.
Islam makes a sharp distinction between Muslims on the one side and everyone else on the other. Their laws distinguish this too. In Shari'a law, a Muslim can testify in court against a kafir, but a kafir may not testify against a Muslim. In Shari'a law, it is illegal for a Muslim to kill a fellow Muslim, but it is not illegal for a Muslim to kill a kafir. A kafir is an unbeliever, an infidel.

Political Islam has a good definition also: Defining Kafir, complete with quotes from the Qur'an describing how Muslims ought to deal with kafirs. It's not pretty.

Answers.com defines it this way:

Kafir is an Arabic word literally meaning "ingrate." In the Islamic doctrinal sense the term refers to a person who does not recognize Allah or the finality of the prophethood of Muhammad and hides, denies, or covers the truth. In cultural terms, it is a derogatory term used to describe an unbeliever or an apostate from Islam. It is usually translated into English as "infidel" or "unbeliever."
The word kāfir is the active participle of the root K-F-R "to cover". As a pre-Islamic term it described farmers burying seeds in the ground, covering them with soil while planting. Thus, the word kāfir implies the meaning "a person who hides or covers". In Islamic parlance, a kāfir is a word used to describe a person who rejects Islamic faith, i.e. "hides or covers [viz., the truth]".

"Kuffar-Appeasing Uncle Tom"

  Time kuffir
In this week's issue of out of "Time" magazine, Bruce Crumley has penned an intellectually dishonest propaganda piece on Islam in Europe, entitled, "Europe Conservatives' New Scapegoat: Multiculturalism." There is no group better practiced at delusion and denial of reality than the left. Yes, I know, so what else is new?
Well, this. Non-muslims are called kuffar by the author. This is a dirty, filthy pejorative word for non-muslims in Islam. It is as ugly as any other word you can think of for a class or group of people, a word that stings the senses.
Time 2
Crumley describes French writer and anthropologist and "moderate Muslim" Dounia Bouzar this way: (hat tip nook)
"Yet despite her efforts to find common ground between Muslims and wider French society — and her feminist defense of women within Islam — Bouzar is no Kuffar-appeasing Uncle Tom."
"Many observers claimed recently that the warnings uttered by Arab rulers regarding the dangers of radical Islam are meant to keep these regimes in power. Maybe, but nonetheless they may be right."

Does FEMA know something you and I don't know? Why Stockpile MRE's For 14 Million People?

FEMA is apparently trying to stockpile hundreds of millions of MRE's (meals ready to eat). In light of the Saudi student arrested in Texas on charges of plotting terrorist attacks throughout the United States. In light of global food prices rising 29% in the last year and now only 3% from the all-time high that was reached in 2008. In light of riots that have begun in parts of the world over these very food prices that make this basic human need unaffordable. In light of solar flares that have recently disrupted the electric grid in China.

Does FEMA and the federal government know something that you and I don't know?Is there scientific knowledge of a Katrina size solar super-storm? A storm, were it to occur, that researchers anticipate would cause a widespread national power outage. Such an outage, if it lasted for any significant length of time, could lead to “disruption of the transportation, communication, banking and finance system, and government services; the breakdown of the distribution potable water owing to pump failure; and the loss of perishable foods and medications from a loss of refrigeration…”

"... One of the nation's largest suppliers of dehydrated food has cut loose 99% of their dealers and distributors. And it's not because of the poor economy. It's because this particular industry leader can no longer supply their regular distribution channels. Why not? Because they're using every bit of manufacturing capacity they have to fulfill massive new government contracts......

Earlier this month, FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) put out a Request for Proposal, or RFP, for even more dehydrated food. The RFP called for a 10-day supply of meals - for 14 million people. That's 420 million meals.

Typically, FEMA maintains a stockpile of about 6 million meals. Why the sudden need to increase the stockpile by 420 million more......

In this economic climate, you would expect FEMA also to be minimizing expenses. But clearly, they're not. If you do the math, the approximate tab for 420 million meals comes to about a billion dollars. What is so urgent that FEMA is spending a billion dollars on survival food..."

Al-Qaida calls for revolt against Arab rulers
Feb 26, 1:24 PM (ET)

CAIRO (AP) - Al-Qaida's offshoot in Yemen urged Muslims to revolt against Arab rulers and establish governments based on Islamic law, according to an audio tape posted Saturday on militant websites.

The appeal came at a time of growing political unrest in the Arab world. Popular uprisings have deposed the leaders of Tunisia and Egypt, and anti-government protests are gaining momentum in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain.

The speaker on the audio tape is identified as Ibrahim al-Rubeish, a former detainee at the U.S.-run Guantanamo Bay lockup. The tape was produced by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, a Yemen-based offshoot of the terror network, according to the SITE Intel group, a U.S.-based group that monitors extremist websites.

In the 10-minute recording, Al-Rubeish criticized Saudi Arabia for providing a haven for deposed Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

He also said toppling longtime rulers is not enough and that new governments must be established based on Islamic religious law, or Shariah.

"One tyrant goes, only to be replaced another who may fix for the people some of their worldly issues by offering job opportunities and increasing their income, but the greater problem remains," al-Rubeish said, according to a translation provided by SITE.

SECDEF:US FORCES-“ill-equipped to challenge Chinese forces” in western Pacific

East Asia Intel:

Below- the Chinese PLAN Navy’s Type 022

A senior military commander disclosed last week that the U.S. military is quietly developing a new war strategy to counter China’s expanding military and its deployment of weapons systems designed to limit U.S. military movements and defenses in Asia.

Adm. Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific Command, said he is excited about what is being called the AirSea Battle Concept that was ordered in 2009 by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates to bolster military forces in the Pacific.

The concept, which is still being developed, grew out of several war games that showed U.S. forces, primarily Navy and Air Forces systems, were ill-equipped to challenge Chinese forces if a conflict erupted over Taiwan or other Asian hotspots.

“This is a natural evolution, progression for us, as we advance our military capabilities, and I think it will only enhance the capabilities that we present to this region, the Asia Pacific, within U.S. Pacific Command,” Willard said after a speech in Washington.

The battle concept calls for a broad range of steps to better coordinate the Air Force and the Navy in the Pacific, said defense officials close to the study. The plans include better joint communications and integrated attack and defense strategies.

Officials said the plan responds to China’s “anti-access” strategy of using ballistic and cruise missiles, submarines and aircraft to drive U.S. forces out of the western Pacific or limit them in aiding U.S. allies.

Most of this is in reaction to the Chinese (ex-USSR) Kent, Sunburn Missile which is acruise anti ship missile which is a Mach 2+ ship killer, and the C(D)F-21 1st of kind (if it works) ballistic anti carrier missile. The purpose of these missiles is to deny operational area to US forces. US Navy doctrine says the following:

“In a conflict, the U.S. Aegis destroyers and cruisers that accompany aircraft carriers could be used to foil anti-ship missiles with SM-3 interceptor rockets, experts say. Interceptor capacity on Aegis-equipped ships isn’t enough to reliably defend against a volley of well-placed anti-ship ballistic missiles.”

Asked about China’s new ballistic missile that is designed to kill aircraft carriers, Willard said the U.S. military’s forward presence in Asia remains strong.

“AirSea Battle [Concept] has many aspects to it. I’m excited about the prospects of achieving more out of these two services than we’ve been able to achieve in the past,” he said.

“We’ve since integrated [the] Marine Corps into the study and their capabilities, and at the end of the day, this will be an enhancement to our joint force writ large,” he said.

One defense official said later that the Marine Corps was added to the AirSea Battle Concept amid growing assertiveness by China’s military. The concept will call for potentially using Marines in sensitive scenarios, such as ejecting Chinese forces from disputed islands in the East China or South China seas.

“The Japanese and South China Sea states don’t have Marine Corps-type capabilities to stop a Chinese occupation of islands, a U.S. Marine Corps specialty for 80 years,” the official said.

Adding Marines to U.S. battle plans is likely to upset China, whose military researchers have criticized the Marines as U.S. shock troops for imperial aims.

The concept will give the Marines a new role in Asian Pacific strategy.

In recent months, China’s military has triggered alarm in the East China Sea by pressuring Japan to release a Chinese fishing boat captain caught illegally fishing near the Senkaku Islands.

WE CALL THEM THE PINNACLE ISLANDS

It also has taken assertive military steps in the South China Sea, claiming the entire region as its economic zone and last year planting a Chinese flag on the sea floor with a miniature submarine.

The battle plan calls for more war games against simulated Chinese forces, something limited in the past by political officials who feared such exercises would artificially create a new Chinese military threat.

However, the military in recent years has grown sufficiently concerned about China’s military buildup and failure to cooperate with the U.S. military to change its posture in Asia.

Hillary Clinton And The Muslim Brotherhood

The Muslim Brotherhood is claiming the following:
US Secretary of State welcomes MB if elected by people through democratic elections

A recent dialogue between US secretary of State and former US first lady Hilary Clinton has revealed that the US may have had a change of heart following its former stance of defending the regime prior to Egypt’s People’s Revolution.
Now, if we read what Clinton actually said, we find that the Muslim Brotherhood is spinning her words.

Nothing new about spin, of course.

But what might be worrisome here is that the Muslim Brotherhood, simply because the group is Muslim, has more credibility with the ummah than an infidel woman can ever hope to have. Furthermore, those Muslims who are longing for real freedom, something that the Muslim Brotherhood can never offer, will see the United States, as represented by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as the enemy.

At the same time, we also read the following about Mohammed ElBaradei and his view of the Muslim Brotherhood:
Ikhwanweb’s [the Muslim Brotherhood's] interview with ElBaradei closed with the following:
He defended the MB confirming that the group would always reject the use of arms and would remain loyal to democracy, emphasising that the organization’s initial struggle was not religious, but completely political.
All the wistful promotion of the revolution in Egypt as the pathway to democracy for that nation is just so much wishful thinking.

Where Is The Outrage Now?

Obama and many others in the international community have been quicker in condemning settlement construction in Israel than atrocities by Arab dictators against innocent civilians.

Has retired South African judge Richard Goldstone considered the possibility of heading a special commission of inquiry to look into the war crimes that are being perpetrated against Libyans and other Arabs?
Settlements may be a problem, but they are not more dangerous than the massacres that are being perpetrated against Arabs.

It took President Barack Obama nine days to condemn Col. Muammar Gaddafi's massacres in Libya as "outrageous" and "unacceptable."

It took the UN Security Council more than a week to hold a closed-door meeting and issue a tempered statement condemning the violence in Libya and calling for its immediate end and for those responsible to be held accountable.

This is the same Security Council that one week earlier held a special and open session to condemn construction in Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Fourteen out of fifteen members of the council voted in support of the anti-settlement resolution, which was vetoed by the US.

The same members, however, saw no need to hold a vote on the slaughtering of thousands of Libyans by Gaddafi.

But both Obama and the Security Council stopped short of calling for Gaddafi's removal from power for perpetrating atrocities against his own people.

The Europeans have also been cautious in their response to the carnage in Libya. They too have refrained from calling for regime change in Libya.

One can understand why Americans and Europeans are worried about their economic interests in Libya, especially with regard to oil. It is also likely that the West is embarrassed about its relationship with the Libyan dictator who, despite his crimes, was welcomed back into the international community in 2003.

Then, Gaddafi was apparently forgiven for his role in the Lockerbie plane explosion and support for countless terror groups in the Arab and Islamic world. Gaddafi was forgiven because he had agreed to abandon his nuclear ambitions and promised to be good..

Egypt's Hosni Mubarak, on the other hand, who for over 30 years served Western interests in the Middle East and did his utmost to preserve the peace treaty with Israel and support moderate Arabs and Muslims, was thrown to the dogs by the Obama Administration as soon as his people started demanding regime change.

Obama and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton seem to be more troubled by the death of 300 Egyptians than the brutal massacring of thousands of Libyans. Obama and Clinton seem to be more worried about construction in Jewish settlements than war crimes and serious human rights violations in the Arab world.

The US Administration and the rest of the international community have once again sent a message to the Arabs that they do not really care about human rights and democracy and that they are ready to sacrifice thousands of Arabs to keep the oil prices as low as ever. Mubarak was unfortunate because his country does not have oil.

Now at least the Arab people know that they can no longer rely on Obama and Clinton to support any of their pro-democracy movements.

Iran: We can now perform NUCLEAR FUSION

Gertz:

Iran has asserted its mastery of a process related to nuclear weapons.

The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization of Iran reported that it has acquired nuclear fusion technology. The state organization said Iran has used lasers to become one of six countries that could operate this fusion technology.

“By the method of inertial confinement lasers, significant research has been successfully conducted in the field of nuclear fusion,” the organization said on Feb. 10.

Nuclear fusion was designed to use the blast of a hydrogen bomb to release energy. France has hosted a 12 billion euro project to channel nuclear fusion as a source of clean energy.

The Iranian statement said the nuclear organization assembled “a machine to make nuclear fusion laser.” No other details were released, including whether Iran conducted a fusion experiment.

“With the manufacture of this machine, Iran becomes the sixth country to master this technology,” the statement said.

So far, only the United States, Japan, France, Australia and South Korea were said to have mastered nuclear fusion technology. China, the European Union, India and Russia were also part of the so-called ITER project to build an experimental nuclear fusion reactor in France. The first large-scale laser target experiments were conducted in June 2009.

In July 2010, Iran announced plans to assemble an experimental nuclear fusion reactor. Officials said the project was launched with a budget of $8 million and could take up to 30 years.

Sorry, not quite biting on this one yet

PS -Queue up Egypt:Turkey has joined ‘radical axis’ with Iran, Syria, Hizbullah

Gertz:

The Israeli intelligence community has determined that Turkey, under Prime Minister Recep Erdogan, has formed strategic alliances with both Iran and Syria.

Officials said Ankara, particularly its intelligence and security agencies, were helping Iran and Syria in such areas as intelligence-sharing, the battle against Kurdish insurgents and combat doctrine.

“Turkey has joined a radical axis that consists of Iran, Hamas, Hizbullah and Syria,” a senior intelligence official said.

The official said the Turkish contribution to the so-called axis began with diplomatic support for the regimes in Damascus, Gaza City and Teheran. But he said Turkey has been providing support for Iranian operations meant to help arm Hizbullah and Syria in plans for a war against Israel.

“There are Iranian shipments that move overland through remote areas of Turkey to Syria,” the official said. “This is coordinated with Turkish intelligence and the United States knows about this.”

On Jan. 25, Israeli military intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Ankara was cooperating with Hamas, Hizbullah, Iran and Syria. Kochavi said the cooperation marked the transformation of the Middle East into a hotbed of Islamic extremism.

“The Middle East is heading toward extreme Islamization and exhibiting less of a desire to reach agreements,” Kochavi said.

The intelligence assessment did not envision Turkey reducing its strategic ties to Iran and Syria or their proxies. The official said Turkey has sought to become a bridge between Teheran and the West while benefiting from Iranian energy.

Turkey is also seeking investment from it wealth neighbors to develop advanced military systems.

Bahrain and Turkey have agreed to bolster military cooperation, for example, but not in the usual format.

Instead, officials envisioned a partnership between Turkish defense companies and Bahraini capital. One option was that Bahrain serve as an investment house and marketing center for Turkish combat platforms, weapons and military equipment. In 2010, bilateral trade reached $244 million.

“The state encourages the private sector to boost domestic investments and ensure greater participation in national economic growth,” Salman said.

Officials said the government of Prime Minister Recep Erdogan was seeking billions of dollars in foreign investment amid projects to develop a fighter-jet, submarine, frigate, main battle tanks and unmanned aerial vehicles. They said this could have a topic during a meeting between the Bahraini crown prince and Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul.

Officials said the two countries pledged to expand defense and military cooperation over the next two years. They said the cooperation could include Turkish military exports to the Gulf Cooperation Council kingdom.

“There are a range of options in which Turkey and Bahrain could become partners in the development and marketing of advanced defense technology,” an official said.

The prospect of expanded military cooperation was discussed during the visit by Bahraini Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa to Turkey. Salman, who is also Bahrain’s deputy military commander, met Turkish President Abdullah Gul and senior military officers.

During his two-day visit, which ended on Feb. 10, Salman toured Turkish defense industries. The Bahraini crown prince expressed admiration for Turkish weapons and military equipment but did not commit himself to procurement.

“Turkey is the most important and largest country, and its economy is important for us regarding the Gulf Cooperation Council,” Salman said.

Meanwhile, Turkey has been searching for a foreign partner for the development and production of a fighter-jet.

Officials said Turkey’s Defense Industry Undersecretariat, or SSM, has begun to draft guidelines for the launch of its FX project, meant to begin serial production of an indigenous combat aircraft by 2020. They said a key condition was that Turkey retain a majority stake in any fighter-jet project.

“We are insisting that we have full control of the project even if our foreign partner would have access to all technology,” an official said.

In December, Turkey launched the fighter-jet project, estimated at costing at least $4 billion. Gonul said Ankara was negotiating with South Korea to enter its aircraft project.

But after several months of talks, the Turkish government has concluded that South Korea was not a suitable partner. Officials said Seoul insisted that Turkey be granted a minority stake in the fighter-jet project, which would focus on air-to-air missions.

As a result, SSM has been discussing the prospect of a partnership with European and other firms. Officials cited Brazil’s Embraer and Italy’s Alenia Aeronautica, both of them leading aerospace companies that have not produced fighter-jets.

The most likely partner, officials said, was Alenia, a leading defense contractor in Turkey. Alenia has been working on the coproduction of up to 91 attack helicopters for the Turkish military.

Alenia has been selected as the marketing partner of the Eurofighter consortium. So far, Turkey, a partner in the U.S. Joint Strike Fighter program, has rejected procurement of the Eurofighter Typhoon.

So far, SSM has allocated $20 million to the state-owned Turkish Aerospace Industries to draft the conceptual design of FX. Officials said TAI, expected to be the eventual prime contractor, would require two years to complete the task.

Officials said SSM has also authorized TAI to find a foreign partner for the fighter-jet project. They said an agreement could be signed with a foreign contractor by 2013.

FX was meant to result in an advanced fourth-generation aircraft that could rival the U.S.-origin F-16 and Eurofighter. Officials said the FX would replace the aging F-4 fighter-jet fleet acquired in the 1970s.

And what are we prepared to do?

What are our plans?

How are we going to safeguard American interests?
