Last year, at least 4,000 Germans newly embraced Islam, as the Zentralinstituts Islam-Archiv Deutschland in Soest determined.
A final assessment of a poll among the Islamic associations will be published at the end of July.
The traditional candidates for conversion had been women who marry a Muslim or female university graduates with a "love for the Oriental culture", but more recently, people from all walks of lifes are joining Islam.

Why is conversion to Islam legal? Since many Moslems consider apostasy a capital offence, it's a "religion" where you can check in any time but you can never leave - at least in theory. Western society does not recognize the freedom to enslave oneself - at least that's what they told me when i was growing up.
