"A few concerns remain”

Eileen Norcross in US News and World Reports, on placement of a govt GPS black box IN YOUR CAR so that gas tax can be eliminated and you can be charged directly for your mileage.
She mentions this might be  a cause for concern since the govt could ‘potentially’ track your movements.
NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Who would worry about that?
Of course there are potential money saving health benefits.
I mean if WE find out you are going to the drive thru window too often we could tax you for increases in health costs for the rest of us. This would also encourage you to ‘conform’ to a healthier lifestyle. Perhaps such trips should be published as a public service, you know, like the locations and names of gun owners.
Or if you are going out for odds and ends too often, perhaps your mileage charge should be hit with a surtax because your are not using our ‘fossil fuel shared heritage’ wisely, and you should be more efficient in your trips to town.
Oh yes, a few concerns remain.
BTW, why did you go to the liquor store 5 times last month?
And that motel?
Broken families cause the state much higher costs, you know.

Welcome to the electronic gulag.

Are they really going through with this?

Pasto,
Possibly.

There is also talk that all roads in Northern Virginia should become toll roads -- at least, in part, with express toll lanes.

One of the stated goals for these toll roads is "to encourage drivers to use public transportation."

And on it goes. We are going to lose our physical mobility.

They have tried to push the exact same system in Europe and the United kingdom as well. The cost to implement this in tight knit infrastructure is very high. Let alone implementing this in a country like the US.

Pastorius said...

Could be, Anonymous.

But, the cost to implement this will continue to get lower and lower.

You're right Pasto , it's getting cheaper to implement.
Funny the pizza vid , there's talk right now in Europe to charge more for overweight people their healthcare premium you would be charged extra according to your BMI index.
Happy days are coming.

Will Obama himself have to pay a higher premium?

Of course not! He's chomping on Nicorette Gum all the time. Even at his 2nd Inauguration.

The American government does not believe in toll roads or any means to reduce city congestion. This has been proven in London, UK where the government, in trying to keep cars out of central London has introduced a traffic congestion charge on all vehicles entering the city. US embassy vehicle are one of the few that have refused to pay, they have racked up tolls of millions and claim diplomatic immunity whenever someone comes with the bill.

Ready for thatching.

Think I'm kidding? This is how we ended up with the place on a lake in Maine.

No one is going to be worrying about sales tax, road tax, gas tax or much of anything in Vanuatu.

If THIS SHIT is what America is going to be ... well then .. I won't be the only expatriate.

This is like cancer.
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance

Only when you hit acceptance, you don't have to be here.

If this is going to be socialism, Vancouver is an effing GORGEOUS place to live.

I mean what the hell. Obama and the progressives are playing with FIRE and there are a LOAD of unintended consequences awaiting. Revolt is the least likely. Decay, decline and morons trying to redistribute scarcity is what awaits if they get what they.

American is an idea, and if they change it away from the idea that was the Constitutional manner of governing .. it's NOT HERE ANYMORE.

My loyalty is to that, NOT washington dc.
