A few days after hundreds of African migrants stormed a border fence in an attempt to cross into the Spanish enclave of Melilla from northern Morocco, Spain is planning to tighten its security around Ceuta and Melilla.

Spain´s Interior Minister Jorge Fernández Díaz, who spoke to Euro Weekly News, specified that reinforcements in the coming weeks will include “lining the six-meter-high fences that surround both cities with a type of mesh designed to impede anyone from climbing”.

He added that in Ceuta, “an additional 20 civil security agents are to be deployed and a helicopter to help with the dissuasion and detection of migrants..in Melilla, the government is planning to build three watch towers that will be equipped with heat-sensitive cameras.”

Spain: Zapatero wants Morocco and Turkey in the EU as a “gesture of conciliation with the Islamic world”

That the only casualties of the twin bombings of Norway are European origin and people outside the Islamic religion has not prevented the Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, from calling on EU leaders for Morocco and Turkey to be allowed entry into the European Union as a gesture of reconciliation with the Islamic world.

The Spanish Government’s President spoke about that support in phone calls to both to the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Alawite ruler of Morocco (what do Erdogan and King Mohammed VI have to do with Norwegian murder? No Muslim was murdered, no Moroccan or Turkish citizen was murdered or hurt…), in which he reiterated his commitment to the alliance of civilizations as the only way possible for a north-south agreement. Zapatero argues that both Turkey and Morocco meet the requirements set by the EU to join their project.

Morocco: Freedom of conscience won't exist in the "new" Constitution

The new constitution “supports the human rights in all aspects, including a fair trial, no torture, no detention, no disappearance, and we need to guarantee the freedom of expression,” he said. The new constitution will also guarantee “freedom of religious worship.”

Yeah, but no freedom of conscience, because as, Benkirane, the leader of the main opposition party (Islamist "Justice and Development Party") says:

“Morocco is a Muslim country whose state religion is Islam, and do not touch these fundamental principles. In Morocco, the freedom of worship is now guaranteed to Christians, Jews …, but not the freedom of conscience. A Muslim can not change his religion or even leave his practice in public, as happened last year when a handful of young men wanted to break the fast in a park in Mohammedia".

So, basically, in this respect, nothing would change.

US: Bipartisan Senate majority pushing Clinton on Western Sahara

"We are writing to urge to make the resolution of the Western Sahara stalemate a U.S. foreign policy priority for North Africa," the senators wrote to Clinton. "We are very concerned about the mounting evidence of growing instability in North Africa.  Terrorist activities are increasing and countries in the region are under substantial pressure from a growing and restless youth population and a precarious economic base."

Specifically, the senators urge Clinton to pursue a "serious and credible" 2007 proposal by Morocco that would establish autonomy in the region except for symbols of Moroccan sovereignty such as currency as well as border control and foreign policy. Morocco, a major U.S. ally, reclaimed the area from Spain in the 1970s. The plan is being opposed by the Polisario, a Sahrawi rebel movement that is pushing for a regional referendum that would offer independence. A cease-fire agreement between the two sides has been in place since 1991, monitored by a special United Nations peacekeeping force.

Well, the only thing these guys are doing is throwing Polisario, which has not being a terrorist organization, into Al-Qaeda's hands. Morocco has tortured these guys, has condemned them to live as refugees and has imprisoned them for attending peaceful demonstrations. Morocco can be a "US ally" but it's nothing more than a terrible dictatorship to the best glory of King Mohammed VI. He blocks newspapers that critisize the regime or Islamic mores and arrests Christians for proselytising. Specially important are the restrictions on press freedom and the country has also protested against drawings of Muhammad in foreign publications and blocked the latter inside Moroccan territory. Morocco has also accused and imprisoned people on homosexuality charges.

So this is not the least intelligent, I'm afraid.

Spain: Polemic in Morocco due to Mohammed’s images in a Spanish textbook

The polemic has been caused by two images of Islam's Prophet in the textbook "Mohammed, Islam and the Arab World", published and edited by Spanish firm Anaya. One of them shows Mohammed teaching his disciples, while the other represents the prophet standing next to Kaaba, the sacred stone of Islam.

The polemic arose when parents whose sons and daughters studied at Secondary Education Institute Juan de la Cierva (Tetouan) complained to the authorities about the images.

An spokesman from the Moroccan Education's Minister assured daily newspaper Al Masae they were investigating the facts to take the necessary meassures.

’Moroccan Secret Service Recruits Dutch MPs’

NIS NEWS BULLETIN: AMSTERDAM - MPs and local council members of Moroccan origin are routinely approached by the Moroccan secret service to defend the interests of Morocco. So says Fouad el Haji, a Labour (PvdA) council member in Rotterdam. The Lower House is shocked and has demanded an explanation from the cabinet.

El Haji said on n [sic] TV programme Pauw&Witteman that Moroccan-Dutch MPs, local politicians, entrepreneurs and police officers are enticed by the Moroccan secret service to serve the interests of Morocco. Rabat wants to bind them to it financially, culturally and politically, he stated.

El Haji suggested that within the PvdA, Socialist Party (SP) and leftwing Greens (GroenLinks), there are polticians who have taken up the offer and thus work for the secret service. He suggested one or several MPs or ex-MPs are among them. But he declined to name any names.

El Haji said he himself was also approached. "It is a pattern," he explained. "You are invited to gala parties and treated with all attentions. Before you know it, you are on a plane to Morocco. When you visit Morocco, you are even more cosseted."

'Ordinary' Moroccans are also targeted, El Haji continued. For example, they are urged to use their savings to buy a second house in Morocco. The integration process is thereby deliberately frustrated, according to El Haji.

This week, TV programme NOVA revealed that a Rotterdam policeman, Re Lemhaouli, was a spy for the Moroccan secret service. This was discovered last spring, but hushed up by the Dutch authorities, according to NOVA. Now that the case has come out in the open, the criminal investigation service has launched an investigation after all.

At the request of the Christian democrats (CDA), the House will hold an emergency debate on the question next week. The cabinet will send a letter ahead of this. If El Haji's allegations are true, this is "extremely serious," said CDA MP Sybrand van Haersma Buma yesterday.

Party for Freedom (PVV) leader Geert Wilders wants the cabinet to go into El Haij's suggestion that one or more MPs have or have had contacts with the secret service. GroenLinks leader Femke Halsema said any pressure on Moroccan Dutch is "unacceptable."

Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen said he had spoken with the Moroccan authorities about the Lemhaouli question. As a result of that conversation, the Moroccan embassy recalled two diplomats to Rabat, he revealed yesterday. ’Moroccan Secret Service Recruits Dutch MPs’ >>> | September 19, 2008

Spain: Islamic Radicals have planned to give some conferences for Imams' indoctrination

Justice and Spirituality (JyS), a radical movement which has spread throughout Spain and which wants the removal from power of the Moroccan King Mohammed VI and to substitute it by the Islamist State of Morocco, is going to celebrate next March 4th a course to train imams. And they want to do it without notice, using the Islamic Federation of the Murcia's Region, an organization they control.

So, it is scheduled that in these conferences take part several leaders of this Moroccan Islamist movement. Among others, Mohamed El Abbadi, number 2 of the Direction's Council and president of the Council of Uprightness from Justice and Spirituality. In 2006 he was detained in Morocco and condemned to a year in prison for violating the precint the authorities have instaled to his home, where he was meeting Islamist leaders of the opposition to the Moroccan King. He has several judicial processes against him in his country. El Abbadi has recommended as President of the Islamic Federation of the Murcia's region his own son-in-law, Said Mendi, an imam who lives in Cartagena, who was sent important quantities of money from the Moroccan country.
