George Mason University is in Fairfax, Virginia, a few scant miles from one of the branches of the Islamic Saudi Academy, and is certainly not one of the easiest schools with regard to admission requirements.

Northern Virginia: Two Bottle Bombs Detonated Inside Movie Theater

During the showing of Godzilla at the multiplex cinema at Tysons Corner Center, a mall frequented by Saudis and other Muslims. On any given day, the obviously-Muslim frequenters of the mall are present in the amount of 25%-50%.

TYSONS CORNER, Va. (WUSA9) -- Thousands of people were sent rushing from the Tysons Corner AMC Theaters Saturday night during the midnight showing of Godzilla, after police say someone set off an improvised explosive device in the theater.

"It was at a very pivotal part in the movie where a bomb could have gone off in the show, the screen goes off and then bang," remembers Matt Cahill, who was in one of the theaters.

A few theaters away, Ryan Krabill heard a similar noise. "All of a sudden it was a loud pop right over what I thought was my right shoulder," he says.

At first, unsure of what was actually happening, most people stayed put, until it was clear this was not part of the plot. "That's when everyone said, this isn't normal, freaked out and headed to the exits," remembers Cahill.

Police and firefighters were already rushing into the AMC theaters.

"Then when the heavily-armed police officers ran into the building, that's when people really decided they were out," says Krabill.

While most people were thinking the worst; minds rushing to the Colorado movie theater shooting, Cahill spotted the likely culprit: a two-liter bottle.

"There was a large amount of liquid on the ground, at the time I didn't know what it was but as soon as I got outside I got a strong odor of vinegar on my shoes," says Cahill.

About 2,000 people rushed out of all 16 theaters, but no gunman was found. "Police then started searching for different devices, the explosive ordinance division was called in," says Mike Riley with the Fairfax County Fire Marshal's office.

These IEDs are typically made using a bottle of some sort and are filled with chemicals and metal, and when they are detonated, it can be violent, sending chemicals and metal into the air.

"I can't believe someone thought that would be a good idea or a prank, someone needs to do something better with their time," says Cahill.

Although no one was hurt, police say this is not a harmless prank.

"You have this explosive device in which people thought was gunfire, infighting fear, quite honestly I interpret that as an act of terrorism," says Riley.

Police are looking at surveillance video. Anyone who saw something suspicious is asked to call police....

According to the Washington Post:

The Fairfax County Fire Marshal is trying to determine the exact substance that was inside the bottles and how the devices ended up in the theater. Deputy chief Michael Reilly described the devices as “acid bombs” containing an explosive mixture of acid and metal.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

Question About Deer Behavior

A bit of a break from what we usually post here at IBA...

Last night, I went out into my backyard at dusk. There stood a young buck almost identical to the one pictured at the left.

No matter how much I waved my arms, clapped my hands, and shouted, he did not flee or turn away.  On the contrary, he stood his ground and became aggressive in his stance.  The closer I got, the more he stamped his front legs and stared me down.

What was going on?  I've never seen a deer behave in that manner when it isn't rutting season.

McLean, Virginia: Investigation Of Human Trafficking

MCLEAN, Va. - Two domestic workers have been removed from a diplomatic mansion in McLean following accusations they were being held like slaves.

The gated compound on Orris Street is owned by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Armed Forces Office, according to real estate records.

The bomb squad is on its way. Update: The robot has removed the grenade from the sidewalk.

Maybe the grenade is some kind of hoax, maybe not.

Man arrested in Pentagon scare charged in DC-area shootings at military sites

WASHINGTON -- A Marine Corps reservist arrested for suspicious activity near the Pentagon last week has been charged in connection with a spate of shootings at military sites in the Washington, D.C., area last fall, federal officials said Thursday.

Yonathan Melaku videotaped himself shouting "allahu Akbar" after firing shots at the US Marine Corps museum and documents concerning bomb-making were found in his home, FOX News reported.

He is charged with two counts of willfully injuring property of the United States, and two counts of carrying and discharging a firearm, FOX said.

In a press conference Thursday, Neil MacBride, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said that the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

The 22-year-old Marine Corps reservist, who is a Muslim believed to be a naturalized US citizen originally from Ethiopia, was arrested by US Park Police last week with a backpack full of suspicious items.

Melaku fled from law enforcement when he was approached at Arlington National cemetery early Friday. During the chase, he dropped a backpack, which contained spent 9mm shell casings, clear plastic bags containing a powdery substance, spray paint, and a spiral notebook containing references to the Taliban, al Qaeda and Usama bin Laden, among other references to terrorism.

An FBI chemist found that the powdery substance was mostly ammonium nitrate, FOX said.

A search of his home turned up a list of items used to make an improvised explosive device, or IED, as well as a laptop computer holding documents concerning bomb-making, FOX reported. Officials also found a videotape showing Melaku repeatedly firing a handgun while driving near the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

According to FOX, he says in the video: "That's what they get. That's my target. That's the military building. It's going to be attacked." He also yells, "allahu Akbar" repeatedly after firing.

Forensic evidence linked him to five shootings at four military buildings in October and November of 2010, FOX News reported Wednesday.

The D.C.-area shootings occurred at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Marine Corps recruiting centers, and at the Pentagon, where windows were shattered just before 5:00am on Oct. 19, 2010.

FOX reported that the cost to repair the windows and exterior of the Pentagon after the Oct. 19 shooting totaled $15,144. Damage resulting from two shootings at the National Museum of the Marine Corps was $83,985.

Meanwhile, the US Marine Corps announced Thursday that Melaku, who held the rank of Lance Corporal, will be processed for "administrative separation" from the Marine Forces Reserve due to an unrelated "grand larceny" charge.

"The leadership became aware after the larceny charges were widely reported in the news when Melaku was detained Friday by the United States Park Service for trespass in Arlington National Cemetery at a time when the cemetery was closed," the Corps Division of Public Affairs said in a written statement.

According to the statement, Melaku was notified Tuesday at the detention center where he was being held that he would be processed for administrative separation.

The statement noted that Melaku had no record of misconduct when he was admitted into the Marine Corps.

"The Marine Corps takes allegation of misconduct seriously and is working with the FBI's investigation," the statement said.

Breaking: Yonathan Melaku May Be Linked To Shootings

D.C. locals who have been following the story of Yonathan Melaku are not surprised to hear that he may well have been up to other mischief besides hiding out in Arlington National Cemetery, within walking distance of the Pentagon, United States military headquarters.

The man detained in connection with a scare at the Pentagon Friday morning may be linked to last fall's shooting at various military targets around northern Virginia.

Four targets were shot at last fall, including the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle twice, along with a Coast Guard recruiting station at the Potomac Mills mall, a Marine Corps recruitment center in Chantilly and the Pentagon.

No one was hurt in the October shootings.

Melaku, a naturalized citizen originally from Ethiopia, has not been charged with any crimes and officials say he acted alone. He is being held in U.S. Park Police custody.

Note the headline of the above article: "Pentagon scare suspect may be linked to shootings." Any attempt that doesn't take lives is a "scare," not a terror attack or an attempted terror attack. "No incendiary device was found."

We local to the D.C. area no longer hear about the pro-Al Qaeda materials Melaku was carrying in his backpack, let alone that this "naturalized citizen originally from Ethiopia" was, at one point, determined to be a Muslim. Is he a Muslim? Well, if he is, the mainstream media won't say so now.

Refuse ObamaKare? Be Forced To Wear A Gold Star

Dr. Len Nichols, a “health care economist,” a professor at George Mason University and Director of the Center for Health Policy Research and Ethics there [Fairfax County, Virginia], told NPR that Americans who refuse the mandate to buy ObamaCare should be forced to wear gold stars on their foreheads, and be refused emergency hospital treatment.

For example, he says, perhaps if people don’t buy insurance when it is first available, “if you ever try to buy insurance again, you’ll have to pay three times the market price, and we will put a gold sticker on your forehead and say to all hospitals, ‘You do not have to treat this person; this person has forfeited their right to uncompensated care.’ ”

Congressman Jim Moran Talks to Arab TV

And denounces those who oppose Obama's agenda as racists. From Politico:

Speaking to Arab television network Alhurra, Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) said Republicans made big gains in November in part because “a lot of people in this country … don’t want to be governed by an African-American.”

Even more objectionable to some Americans, he said, is that Obama is a black president “who is inclusive, who is liberal, who wants to spend money on everyone and who wants to reach out to include everyone in our society — that’s a basic philosophical clash.”

Moran’s remarks came Tuesday in an interview conducted after Obama delivered his State of the Union speech. Democrats, Moran said, lost for “the same reason the Civil War Happened in the United States … the Southern states, particularly the slaveholding states, didn’t want to see a president who was opposed to slavery.” Virginia, of course, is one of those Southern, formerly slaveholding states....

Thus, Moran is promoting white guilt.

The Civil War is over. Sure, racism still exists in the United States. There's no denying that fact. But to attribute the results of the 2010 elections exclusively to racism is inaccurate and denial of the will of the American people as they exercised that will at the ballot box last November. Besides, the district from which Moran runs for office is overwhelmingly white (liberal), and Democrat Moran got re-elected. Or maybe Moran has decided that Virginia, particularly Northern Virginia is not part of the South - never mind that slaves were indeed held in bondage here in Northern Virginia.

And what the hell is Moran doing talking to Arab television, anyway? Following Obama's lead, I suppose. Obama spoke with al-Arabiya in one of his first interviews after taking office in January 2009.

Here in Northern Virginia, Congressman Moran sometimes runs for office without opposition. And when an opponent does challenge Moran for that particular seat in Congress, Moran trounces him. Never mind Moran's frequent off-the-cuff remarks:

Moran has gotten in trouble for his off-the-cuff remarks in the past. In 2007, he alleged that the “extraordinarily powerful” pro-Israel lobby played a major role in promoting the U.S. war in Iraq. A strong supporter of his district’s Muslim community, Moran faced criticism from Jewish groups in 2003 for saying that then-Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was visiting Washington “probably seeking a warrant from President Bush to kill at will with weapons we’ve paid for.”

Moran is standing by his recent statements about Obama and racist America.

UPDATED - All Three Shootings Linked

The shooting sprees targeting military installations in Northern Virginia still under investigation:

The FBI said on Thursday that it has linked a shooting at a Marine Corps recruiting station in a Virginia suburb outside the U.S. capital to two other shootings at the Pentagon and a Marine Corps museum.

"A shooting at a military-related facility in Chantilly, Va., has been linked to two earlier shootings at similar facilities, laboratory tests show," the FBI said in a statement, adding that it would not release more details.

Investigators believe a high-powered rifle was used to fire up to seven shots at the Pentagon, shattering two windows, on October 19. The FBI said it had linked that shooting to another two days earlier at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, in Triangle, Virginia, 36 miles south of Washington....

The annual Marine Corps Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, October 31. Security will be tight.

In fact, certain people, I'm not sure who, have been bragging on our local television news that the marathon cannot possibly be sniped upon because of the extra security.

UPDATED - Reuters: More shots at Marine museum in evolving sniper case

Several shots were fired at a Marine Corps museum near Washington overnight, police said on Friday, in the latest of a series of shootings at military buildings around the U.S. capital. No one was injured.

The FBI already linked a previous October shooting at the museum in Virginia to two other area shootings, one at a Marine Corps recruiting station in a different Virginia suburb and the other at the Pentagon.

In the October 19 Pentagon shooting, investigators believe a high-velocity rifle was used to shatter two exterior windows. No one has been injured in any of the incidents.

The Pentagon has said it is tightening security for Sunday's Marine Corps marathon after the latest shooting.

Unlike the Washington, D.C., sniper shootings of October 2002, in which a sniper shot and killed 10 people and terrified the Washington area, this gunman appears to be targeting military buildings, not people. All the incidents occurred overnight or during off-peak hours.

The Pentagon was a target of the September 11, 2001, attacks. In March, a gunman shot and wounded two security officers near a Pentagon entrance, and was killed in the process.

Another Shooting Upon Military Installations In Northern Virginia

Strange, and finally the FBI has been called in:

Pentagon, Marine museum shots linked

The FBI on Tuesday opened an investigation into three unexplained shootings at military installations in Northern Virginia over the past 10 days.

The first shooting, which broke upper-level windows at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle just off of Interstate 95, happened in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 17. The second shooting, at the Pentagon, was reported at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19 in the area of the south parking lot, which faces I-395. The FBI announced Tuesday afternoon that those two shootings have been linked to the same weapon.

A third shooting, which apparently happened overnight Monday into Tuesday, targeted the Marine Corps Recruiting Station at 13881 MetroTech Drive in Chantilly. Authorities believe this shooting could be related to the other two, but they are awaiting ballistics tests on bullets from the most recent attack....

...Steven Weber, a political science professor at the University of California who has studied terrorist behavior, said investigators must consider a wide range of possibilities.

"It could be someone who holds a grudge against the military. It someone who believes by targeting military facilities they will get a lot of attention. It could becould be someone suffering from PTSD [post-traumatic stress disorder] who believes someone in one of those buildings is responsible," Weber said. "Or it could be none of those things."...

Speculation, pure speculation.

Of course, certain speculations or the consideration of certain possibilities are not given utterance.

Who Is Muhannad Almahmoudi?

The title of this refers to Adam Albrett, a Virginia lawyer recently arrested for threatening Obama. In all the local television reports here in the D.C. area, not a word was uttered about the Islamic name Albrett apparently used on occasion.

...In court papers, the government charges Adam Albrett, also known as Muhannad Almahmoudi, sent an email May 14 threatening to "blow the brains out of President Obama unless he vacates the White House."

The arrest warrant accuses Albrett of "threats against the president and successors to the presidency," which would be White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. Albrett also threatened to kill Emanuel.

Neighbors say 45-year-old Albrett is a patent attorney of Middle Eastern descent who grew up here [in Fairfax County]....

I wonder what mosque Almahoudi attended?

Yet another snowstorm is headed our way later today and close on the heels of the last one, from which we have not fully recovered. Digging out from under last week's two-plus feet has been difficult, particularly as nighttime lows have dropped well into the teens.

The weather forecasters are saying we will get 10-20 inches on top of the mess we've already got.

We've been advised to be prepared to shelter in place for three days.

Apparently residents in the D.C. area are taking the warning seriously. Last night, one grocery store in Washington, D.C., was so packed that the manager had to shut it down!

Outreach To Moslems And U.S. Goverment Policy

Remember those five Washington-area Moslems who went to Pakistan, apparently for training in jihad with the Taliban? Well, now the American government is "walking a tightrope," the tightrope of dhimmitude.

...[A]gents and prosecutors [face] a dilemma as the case has morphed from a missing persons investigation into a counter-terrorism probe. As U.S. officials consider whether to file criminal charges against the men and how aggressively to prosecute any potential case, some Muslim leaders are calling for leniency, saying the tough approach often used by the Bush administration would alienate a community whose relationship with law enforcement is uneasy.

"Charging them and throwing them in jail is not the solution," said Nihad Awad, national head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which approached the FBI on behalf of the families....

Prosecutors face complexities that include whether the men's reported admissions to Pakistani authorities are admissible in a U.S. court and whether any statements were coerced.

Senior Justice Department officials are expected to balance broader issues in any charging decisions, such as concern over a growing threat from domestic extremism.

"Home-based terrorism is here," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a recent speech in which she cited the arrests of U.S. citizens suspected of plotting attacks with al-Qaeda and other Muslim groups. The five Virginia men are U.S. citizens.

...[T]he law enforcement imperative could clash with President Obama's desire to improve relations with Muslims abroad and in the United States. When asked about the arrests in Pakistan, Obama praised "the extraordinary contributions of the Muslim-American community."

These five men who went to study jihad with the Taliban don't elicit condemnation from BHO? And BHO's comment about contributions is a non-sequitur.

If American law enforcement has reached the point that deciding how to pursue this case requires considering the internal threat from Muslims in the United States, we're living in a state of tacit terrorism and dhimmitude right now. Either these five American Moslems are guilty of treason or they are not - on the merits of the case, not in consideration of "broader issues."

Now, check out the last two paragraphs of the WaPo article:

Nawar Shora, legal director for the American-Arab Anti Discrimination Committee -- who, with a representative from a Muslim group presented the award to Persichini -- said the Arab and Muslim communities will accept any charges against the men arrested in Pakistan as long as they are treated fairly.

Yet he indicated that tensions could flare, depending how the government approaches a case. "If the FBI and the prosecutors say these were five Muslims and they were trying to commit jihad, and they throw out all of these incendiary religious terms, that's different," Shora said.

A school security officer in Virginia who told a protester opposing President Obama's health-care plan that America is "no more" remains employed but is now under investigation because of his statements, according to his school district.

"I have to say, I've seen the video. We do not condone what the officer did say," Paul Regnier, the coordinator of communications and community relations for Fairfax County Public Schools told WND today.

The video, which had surpassed 450,000 views, also attracted more than 6,000 comments, including one that clearly implied racial overtones to the officer's opposition to the poster.

"If it had been a Sarah Palin rally and the cop had been white, he would be on his way to federal prison for civil rights violation," said a YouTube forum participant.

Regnier told WND the district would not comment on personnel issues. He did confirm the congressman's event had been under a rental arrangement on school property and the officer was there as part of a school assignment.

But he also confirmed that whatever sign rules the school normally would impose would not have been in effect since the facility had been rented for the congressman's meeting.

"We are looking into this and will take appropriate action," he assured WND.

But he said that because of the personnel issues involved, no information would be released.

Asked to confirm that Cheeks still is on staff and on duty, Regnier declined.

"He is still an employee," he said....
