AFL-CIO Attorney: “It is legally impossible to conduct a nationwide raffle”

We recently sent a complaint to the Federal Election Commission with regard to the “Dinner with Barack” fundraising promotions of 2007 and 2008. The Center for Competitive Politics quoted AFSCME (part of AFL-CIO) associate general counsel Jessica Robinson on the use of raffles to raise money for political campaigns.
Ms. Robinson says unequivocally that it is impossible to legally conduct a nationwide raffle and furthermore that doing so violates the Federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) statute. Racketeering includes systematic violations of any state’s gambling laws.. This means there is excellent cause to remove Barack Obama from office without an extensive foray into the Twilight Zone to find his birth certificate. If Obama for America broke the law by running an illegal Internet gambling operation, and Minnesota law enforcement is on record as saying that it did, that is cause for impeachment. Not that I expect anything will come from trying to hold Obama to the letter of the law. Those who support Obama will just brush off any violation of the law that he perpetrates.

Obama's Foreign Policy Mistakes
Given President Obama's glaring domestic policy missteps, it is understandable that the public has largely been blinded to his foreign policy failings. In fact, these may have been even more damaging to America's future. He fought to reinstate Honduras's pro-Chávez president while stalling Colombia's favored-trade status. He castigated Israel at the United Nations but was silent about Hamas having launched 7,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip. His policy of "engagement" with rogue nations has been met with North Korean nuclear tests, missile launches and the sinking of a South Korean naval vessel, while Iran has accelerated its nuclear program, funded terrorists and armed Hezbollah with long-range missiles. He acceded to Russia's No. 1 foreign policy objective, the abandonment of our Europe-based missile defense program, and obtained nothing whatsoever in return.Spot on, in my view. Damning, in fact.
The next paragraph reads as follows as Romney goes on to discuss BHO's worst foreign-policy mistake:

Hillary Clinton Says White House Will Sue Over Arizona Immigration Law

According to President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder, the Justice Department is currently in the process of deciding whether or not to file suit over Arizona's controversial immigration law, which Mr. Obama has called "misguided" and potentially discriminatory.
According to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, however, the decision has already been made.
"President Obama has spoken out against the law because he thinks that the federal government should be determining immigration policy," she said in an interview with an Ecuadorean television station flagged by The Right Scoop. "And the Justice Department, under his direction, will be bringing a lawsuit against the act."
The Arizona law, which would go into effect in July, requires immigrants in the state to carry documents verifying their immigration status and requires police officers to question a person about his or her immigration status during a "lawful stop" if there is "reasonable suspicion" that person may be in the country illegally.
Holder has indicated that he believes "the law is an unfortunate one that will be subject to potential abuse" and said that the Justice Department is "considering a court challenge."
It is not clear whether Clinton was just making a prediction or whether she was getting ahead of a planned announcement by the administration. The Justice Department said today it is continuing to review the law.

I think that there is a pattern emerging regarding events associated with our President which if true should be a serious concern. Let me first say that the allegation that I'm about to make may not be news to you and your colleagues in the conservative media, but it appears to me that this point -- if made at all -- is not getting through to the broader conservative community. Please consider my thoughts because I may have stumbled upon something of significance to you and the cause of liberty.With each new and peculiar news story involving the President, my husband makes the same comment to me: another example of demoralizing and discrediting. When you look at his (or the White House/administration) handling of and comments about certain events, the consequences can be said to be destructive to the trust we have in our institutions, important organizations, and critical government roles. What goes unremarked upon is the potential for the demoralizing effect on individuals within our national security and intelligence communities.
Some examples:
• CIA: Eric Holder investigates the CIA interrogations of terrorists;
• Armed Forces: The prosecution of Navy SEALs who bloodied a prisoner's nose;
• Secret Service: The gatecrashers and the subsequent (and perhaps unfair) accusations that the Secret Service failed to do its job;• Armed Forces: Dithering, lack of interest, change of rules of engagement...;
• Our Allies: Honduras, Poland, Columbia, Tibet, Taiwan, Britain (treatment of the Queen, brusque handling of Gordon Brown, the return of Churchill's bust, the DVD collection 'gift'), lack of support for Iranian protesters...;
• Taxpayers: Average U.S. citizens, especially seniors, are demonized when they protest outrageous deficits, government-run "one-size-fits-all" health care, an all-powerful 'Health Choices Commissioner', and a politicization of medical treatment itself; protesters are characterized as crazy and dangerous with a DHS report issued warning of right-wing threats;
• The Rule of Law - no DOJ or White House response to SEIU intimidation and beatings (see Kenneth Gladney); a complete dismissal of Black Panther voter intimidation; failure to investigate rampant corruption associated with ACORN;
• Personal Security: NYC residents suffer when a White House jet 'photo op' buzzes the city; the KSM trial blocks away from the hallowed Ground Zero; the Cambridge/Henry L. Gates episode;
• Media: - Fox News is directly attacked, boycotted and attempts are made to remove it from the Press Pool by the White House after unfavorable press treatment; other media outlets are muted in their criticisms of White House policy for fear of similar treatment by the administration;
I think it's important to try to blunt this attack on American institutions by frequently explaining the tactic - making comprehension of it cross into the mainstream so that the targets -- all of us -- can automatically defend against it.Additionally, I fear that this continuous (discrediting and demoralizing) assault may, in time, eat away at the will of those we rely on to secure the country.
It is now common for some to assume that that those in the White House are intentionally damaging or hampering our economic system and will use any means possible for their progressive aims. I think the discussion stops short of making clear what the intended psychological effects are of not trusting your government to deal effectively with issues (i.e. economy, foreign policy) and distrusting their motivations.
Some commentators comes close when they they say that there will come a time when you will not know what to believe, but I do not think this is explicit enough.
This particular observation appears to evading the attention of conservatives, the center-right media and the blogosphere itself.
And yet our most vital institutions are, in many respects, crumbling before our very eyes.

By embarrassing I mean embarrassing to the United States, speeches that have projected weakness rather than strength, policy statements that have forced millions of Americans to cringe in front of their television sets.

1. United Nations General Assembly Speech, New York, September 23, 2009
In a highly partisan political speech, the President went before the 192 members of the United Nations and trashed the counter-terror policies of the former US administration, as well as condemning the actions of a close American ally, Israel. Several thunderous rounds of applause greeted the president’s words, largely from countries with a track record of hating America. The Iranian and North Korean nuclear threats barely merited a mention, nor did the war in Afghanistan. Libyan tyrant Muammar Gaddafi swiftly followed with an admiring call for Obama to “stay forever as the president.” Even Hugo Chavez loved it.
Key line:
“the time has come for the world to move in a new direction. We must embrace a new era of engagement based on mutual interest and mutual respect, and our work must begin now… In an era when our destiny is shared, power is no longer a zero-sum game. 2. Strasbourg Speech, April 3, 2009
A very close second in a highly competitive line-up, with its wincing talk of American “arrogance”. The President of the most powerful nation on earth traveled to France to deliver a grovelling, massive mea culpa for US foreign policy, including the War on Terror. Utter humiliation for America on European soil in front of a largely French and German audience who bitterly opposed the liberation of Iraq - not even Jacques Chirac could have dreamt it up.
Key line:
“In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.”
3. Cairo University Speech, June 4, 2009
A 56-minute address that received a standing ovation from an audience that would have loudly booed Obama’s predecessor in the White House. Highlights included an attack on the US decision to go to war in Iraq – “a war of choice” as Obama called it – despite the fact that Saddam Hussein had failed to comply with no less than 16 UN Security Council resolutions. The president also drew a hugely controversial parallel between Jewish suffering in the Holocaust and the current plight of the Palestinians, strongly criticizing the Israeli “occupation”. As he did in Strasbourg and at the UN, Obama brought up the Guantanamo issue in front of an international audience, as part of a ritual exercise in self-loathing. Notably absent in this speech to the Muslim world was any mention of “terrorist”, “terrorism” or “Islamist”, or an assessment of the scale of the Iranian nuclear threat.

“Let me also address the issue of Iraq. Unlike Afghanistan, Iraq was a war of choice that provoked strong differences in my country and around the world. 4. Prague Speech, April 5, 2009
This was the now infamous address by Barack Obama calling for the creation of a nuclear-free world, while downplaying the threat posed by rogue states such as Iran and North Korea. The president’s speech preceded his visit to Moscow in July, where he negotiated the framework for a major nuclear arms reduction deal with the Russians – ultimately leading to Washington’s shameful surrender over Third Site missile defences, a huge betrayal of US allies in eastern and central Europe. The Czechs will always remember this speech for Obama’s immortal words, just months before selling them down the river: “I am here to say that the United States will never turn its back on the people of this nation.”

This was a speech delivered in front of Americans, but aimed at a global audience, representing Barack Obama’s strongest attack on the previous administration’s successful counter-terror policies. It was a humiliating US apology for key aspects of the War on Terror, clearly aimed at appeasing hostile international opinion, with little regard for advancing US national security. The National Archives address was a perfect propaganda gift to America’s enemies, representing the humbling of American power on the world stage.
Key line:
“There is also no question that Guantanamo set back the moral authority that is America’s strongest currency in the world. Instead of building a durable framework for the struggle against al Qaeda that drew upon our deeply held values and traditions, our government was defending positions that undermined the rule of law… instead of serving as a tool to counter terrorism, Guantanamo became a symbol that helped al Qaeda recruit terrorists to its cause. Indeed, the existence of Guantanamo likely created more terrorists around the world than it ever detained.”

Fuck Obama
Fuck this man we call the president. I no longer care what happens to him any more than he cares what happens to the people of Iran, the children, younger than my own, field dressing their wounded friends best they can under primitive condiitons. Using belts as tourniquets to stem blood flow from a femoral artery hit, applying direct pressure to vainly try to stop the bleeding in a center chest hit, carrying severly wounded comrades like pigs on a spit because there are no stretchers while our president eats ice cream and couldn't give a shit.

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Tuesday declared the United States and the entire world "appalled and outraged" by Iran's violent efforts to crush dissent, a clear toughening of his rhetoric as Republican critics at home pound him as being too passive.
Obama condemned the "threats, beatings and imprisonments of the last few days. "
"I strongly condemn these unjust actions," Obama said in a news conference at the White House.
Obama said his message has been consistent, and he shot back at Republican critics who are calling him timid: "Only I'm the president of the United States."
When asked if his strong language on Tuesday was influenced by pressure from such Republicans as Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham, Obama scoffed: "What do you think?"
In Tehran, chaotic images of riot police beating and shooting protesters have seized the world's attention and heightened pressure on Obama to act — or at least speak out more strongly.
At least 17 people have been killed in protests since the election last week.
Protesters in Iran have demanded that the government there cancel and rerun the elections that ended with a declaration of overwhelming victory for hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Reformist presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi says he won and has claimed widespread fraud.
"I have made it clear that the United States respects the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and is not interfering in Iran's affairs," Obama said. "But we must also bear witness to the courage and dignity of the Iranian people, and to a remarkable opening within Iranian society. And we deplore violence against innocent civilians anywhere that it takes place."
Obama noted the killing of a young woman, Neda Agha Soltan, whose apparent shooting death was captured on video and circulated worldwide.
"We have seen courageous women stand up to brutality and threats, and we have experienced the searing image of a woman bleeding to death on the streets," Obama said. "While this loss is raw and painful, we also know this: Those who stand up for justice are always on the right side of history."
Asked if Iran will face consequences for how it has acted, Obama said the world is watching and Iran's handling of dissent "will help shape the tone not only for Iran's future but also its relationship to other countries."
Five months into his presidency, Obama also pushed lawmakers to deliver on ambitious overhauls of health care and energy.
His appearance came as his approval rating — while still high, and a little above average for new presidents — was slipping according to recent polls.
The president took the podium after a troublesome week for the new administration. He's seeking to frame the Washington debate on his own terms after a stretch in which he saw fellow Democrats fretting about the jaw-dropping cost estimates of reforming health care, a series of polls underscoring deep unease among independents and moderates over the soaring deficit, and Republicans challenging him to be stronger in his response to the postelection turmoil in Iran.
Obama didn't rule out shifting U.S. strategy on Iran, which now calls for an opening of dialogue.
"We are going to monitor and see how this plays itself out before we make any adjustments about how we proceed," the president said.
Obama said the United States has provided a path for Iran to reach out to the international community and engage with global powers.
"It is up to them to make a decision about whether they choose that path," Obama said. He added that the outlook "obviously is not encouraging in terms of the path that this regime may choose to take."
Obama forcefully countered the idea that he's been slow to forcefully respond to Iran's violent crackdown on dissent.
"I don't think that's accurate," Obama said. "Track what I've been saying."
The president said he quickly responded after the election results and after violence broke out in the streets of Tehran, and that the United States has frequently condemned infringements on the freedom of assembly and speech for Iranians.
"We've been entirely consistent," Obama said.
On Sunday, Sen. Graham, R-S.C., said: "The president of the United States is supposed to lead the free world, not follow it. He's been timid and passive more than I would like." McCain, R-Ariz., who challenged Obama for the presidency, said: "I'd like to see the president be stronger than he has been."
On the home front, Obama is asking Congress to pass a sprawling and costly plan to overhaul the nation's health care system, as powerful interest groups warily react with both support and criticism. On energy, Obama and Congress are under pressure to pass climate and energy legislation by the end of this year, when the U.S. will sit down with other nations to hammer out a new international agreement to curb emissions linked to global warming.
The president used his opening statement to push both measures.
On health care, Obama said: "Right now I will say that our position is a public plan makes sense" — but he left open the door, as negotiations continue, to abandoning the position that people should have the option of choosing coverage from a government program.
"We have not drawn lines in the sand other than reform has to control costs," he said.

Obama, Ice Cream Cone Photo-ops, And Iran
....a ride in the presidential motorcade to get frozen custard from The Dairy Godmother on Saturday afternoon. Twelve dark vehicles wound thru small side streets to the Del Ray section of Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb of Washington.
Liz Davis, owner of the frozen custard shop, said she had about 4 minutes of “lag time” between knowing she would have “a visitor” and the President walking in with his daughters.
Although the flavor of the day was posted as butter pecan, the President ordered a small cup of vanilla frozen custard with hot fudge and toasted almonds. (ABC News)
Obama didn’t have to make a photo op out of his trip to the ice cream store. But he did, and it represents a political tone deafness that opens him up to ridicule.
Just as we see images coming from Iran, they see images coming from America. What is going to happen if the revolution succeeds, and the new leadership looks back on what the American president was doing while they were dying for freedom?
They were being slaughtered while Barack ate ice cream. It will be hard for them to avoid remembering that image.
Next time Barack wants to take his kids out for ice cream while young people are dying while trying to unseat our common enemy, perhaps he shouldn’t turn it into a photo op.

That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. The history of the present King of Great Britain (and you, former Senator Obama) is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states (you're working towards just that). To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.
He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of representation in the legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved representative houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the legislative powers, incapable of annihilation, have returned to the people at large for their exercise; the state remaining in the meantime exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavored to prevent the population of these states; for that purpose obstructing the laws for naturalization of foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migration hither, and raising the conditions of new appropriations of lands.
He has obstructed the administration of justice, by refusing his assent to laws for establishing judiciary powers (about those Black Panthers).
He has made judges dependent on his will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries (and now that of financial institutions).
He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies without the consent of our legislature (National Civilian Security would be just such a thing).
He has affected to render the military independent of and superior to civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation: (do you not want this to happen with the UN?)
For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For protecting them, by mock trial, from punishment for any murders which they should commit on the inhabitants of these states:
For cutting off our trade with all parts of the world:
For imposing taxes on us without our consent (wait for the Stimulus Bill to come due):
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury:
For transporting us beyond seas to be tried for pretended offenses:
For abolishing the free system of English laws in a neighboring province, establishing therein an arbitrary government, and enlarging its boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule in these colonies:
For taking away our charters, abolishing our most valuable laws, and altering fundamentally the forms of our governments:
For suspending our own legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
He has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his protection and waging war against us.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burned our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
He is at this time transporting large armies of foreign mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of cruelty and perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the head of a civilized nation.
He has constrained our fellow citizens taken captive on the high seas to bear arms against their country (National Civilian Security would be just that), to become the executioners of their friends and brethren, or to fall themselves by their hands.
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian savages, whose known rule of warfare, is undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
In every stage of these oppressions we have petitioned for redress in the most humble terms: our repeated petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
Nor have we been wanting in attention to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. If the Pelosi bill is actually enacted into law (which I still think is doubtful) and upheld by the courts, there is no limit to the arbitrary power of Congress. In that event, we have no property rights and there is no Constitution–no equal protection clause, no due process clause, no impairment of contracts clause, no bill of attainder/ex post facto law clause. Instead, we are living in a majoritarian tyranny. As I explained here, there is nothing wrong with the AIG bonuses and no reason why they should be repaid. But even if you think it was wrong for AIG to pay them, Pelosi’s proposed confiscatory tax–total taxes would exceed 100 percent in some jurisdictions–is an outrage. If Congress can appease a howling mob of demagogues by enacting discriminatory tax legislation against a group of people who are, for the moment, politically unpopular, even though the vast majority of them have nothing to do with the supposed problems that have given rise to popular outcry–imagine, say, Congress enacting a surtax on the incomes of all homosexuals in response to a notorious case of homosexual molestation–then the idea that the Constitution affords us any sort of protection against arbitrary government power is an illusion.
