This is a concerted effort between Justify This, Infidel Bloggers Alliance and myself.

The impact of antisemitism Hitler-style on the Arab world is still unbowed and doesn't even bother with politically correct smokescreens like "Criticising Israel must not be taboo".

It shows too, however, that the Mufti wasn't quite the innocent "noble savage" who got spoilt by the evil Nazis, but that this was a mutually inspriring relationship between two evil powers, both rooted in their respective Jew-hating tradition.

Hats off to the Bayerischer Rundfunk and Report München who broadcast it. An absolute exception from the usual "Israel threatens to defend herself"-coverage we otherwise see here in Germany.

A Very Practical and Attractive Religion for Soldiers

The recent renaissance of the the proud German tradition of collaborating with murderous Palestinian Arab scum is deserving of further attention. The following is from a previous entry, namely Child Molesters Comparing Notes. It's too good (immodest I'm not!) to be doomed to future insignificance in the blog bilges, so I've taken and added a bit to it.

Hadj Amin el Husseini, with Brit assistance self-appointed Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, mass murderer of Jews, on Hitler's payroll since 1937, accomplice of Hitler in the Holocaust, honoured guest in Berlin during WWII (all expenses, hookers included, paid), founder of the SS Handzar division, and post-war co-founder and President of the Arab League.

It is a widely shared consensus, that the existence of the state of Israel with her ethnic European population is the cause for the strife in the Middle East. So it may be a surprise to some that as early as 1933 Nazi political groups started to rise their ugly heads throughout the Arab world, for example Young Egypt, led by Muslim Brotherhood member Gamal Abdel Nasser, later Egyptian President. Young Egypt’s political slogan "One Folk, One Party, One Leader" is a direct translation from the German.

Who was the driving force behind this movement?

It can be safely assumed that the history of the Middle East and to a considerable extent that of the European Jewry would have taken a different course without Amin el Husseini, who later added "Hadj" to his name, and whose creepy shadow of death is still looming today.

He was born 1893 in Jerusalem under Ottoman rule. 1914-1917 he got his first taste of "jihad" and must have found it addictive. As an officer of the Ottoman Empire in Smyrna during the Armenian genocide, he actively participated in the slaughtering of one and a half million Christians by the Ottoman Army and it ought to be remembered that allegiance to the idea of the Ottoman Empire and a vision of Islamic world take-over was spine-chillingly echoed by Osama Bin Laden in his post-September 11th declaration.

But back to British Mandate Palestine, where Husseini is able to apply the lessons he had learned, lessons of genocide and the establishment of a Pan-Islamic empire, from which Jews and Christians are excluded. He stirs up riots in Palestine through the Twenties and Thirties, mainly, but not exclusively, targeted at Jews, including the massacre of the Hebron Jews on 23 and 24 August 1929.

The survivors are forced to flee Hebron, their property is seized by Arab residents and occupied until after the Six Day War 1967. The Hebron Jewish community was over 2,000 years old. This and other massacres may serve as both, proof for the fact that the Jewish-Arab relationships were, different from what some are fond of maintaining, less than well already before the foundation of the State of Israel and that, different from what others say, the Arabs did not learn genocidal antisemitism from the Nazis. But I digress.

Muslims who dare to protest against Hadj Amin's reign of terror are murdered as well, who, in 1931, becomes founder of the World Islamic Congress and starts to build his own strong political base.

1937 Hadj Amin el Husseini visits the German Consul in Jerusalem. He meets among others Adolf Eichmann (whose sense for "Aryan" company must have been a wee bit selective) to discuss "the Jewish question". From then on, Husseini will receive financial and military aid from Nazi Germany. He spends the war safe and sound in Germany, all expenses paid by the Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt).

Active collaboration with top-ranking Nazis starts in 1941. Reportedly, Hitler would have been content with deporting the Jews to Palestine, which Husseini perceives as a threat to his powerbase and so he pushes successfully for the extermination of the European Jews. The same year, Husseini is made chief architect of the Nazi occupation in Bosnia. The Serbian-Cyrillic alphabet is banned, Orthodox Serbs forced to wear a blue, Jewish Serbs a yellow armband.

While in Bosnia, Amin Al-Husseini takes the title "Protector of Islam". 100,000 (One hundred thousand!) Bosnian Muslims join the Nazi ranks. They are seeking the approval of the Germans for establishing an autonomous protectorate for Bosnian Muslims.

Amin Al-Husseini approves the Pejani Plan calling for the extermination of the Serbian population, something that even Nazi Germany refuses to implement.

Bosnian ethnic cleansing under Amin al Husseini:
- Orthodox Christian Serbs: 200,000 killed
- Gypsies: more than 40,000 killed
- Jewish Bosnians: 22,000 killed.
Husseini’s legacy of hatred is a major factor in today’s Bosnia/Herzegovina campaign against the Serbs.

1942, Husseini intervenes personally with the Nazi High Command to refuse an offer by the Red Cross to exchange 10,000 Jewish children for German prisoners of war. The offer is refused and the children die in the gas chambers.

1943, he creates the Handzar Division of Muslim Soldiers in Bosnia, which is, with 26,000 soldiers, to become the largest division of the Third Reich military and participates actively in the genocide of the Serbians, Gipsies and Jews in Bosnia. The Muslim soldiers pledge allegiance to Nazi regime in an official statement drawn up by Heinrich Himmler. During the same year, Husseini is made "Prime Minister" of a Pan-Arab Government created by the Nazi regime. His "headquarters" are in Berlin. He plans to put up a concentration camp in Nablus to realise the "final solution" in Palestine as an extension of Hitler’s plan.

Husseini and Himmler grow on each other. At his insistence, the "Mufti" is even given a private tour of Auschwitz death camp by Himmler.

Heinrich Himmler, obviously another Nazi with rather selective "Aryan" tastes, informed Nazi chief propagandist Josef Goebbels: "[I] have nothing against Islam because it educates the men in this division for me and promises them heaven if they fight and are killed in action. A very practical and attractive religion for soldiers."

On August 6, 1943, Himmler writes the following letter to his man in the NDH, SS Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Polizei Konstantin Kammerhofer and to Artur Phleps, commander of the 5th SS Mountain Corps:

"All Moslem members of the Waffen SS and police are to be afforded the undeniable right of their religious demands never to touch pork, pork sausages nor to drink alcohol...I hold all commanders...and other SS officers, responsible for the most scrupulous and loyal respect for this privilege especially granted to the Muslims. They have answered the call of the Moslem chiefs and have come to us out of hatred for the common Jewish-Anglo-Bolshevik enemy and through respect and fidelity for he who they respect above all, the Fuehrer, Adolf Hitler... There will no longer be the least discussion about the special rights afforded to the Moslems in these circles.

It is Himmler, too, who establishes and funds the "Islamische Zentralinstitut" in Dresden, with Husseini as head. The purpose is to create a generation of Muslim leaders that would continue to use Islam as a carrier for Nazi ideology into the 21st century.

On March 1, 1944, Husseini addresses from Berlin the Muslim SS units: "Kill the Jews wherever you find them. This pleases God, history and religion. This saves your honour. God is with you."

1944, he becomes one of the founders of the Arab League. Its goal is to reinforce Pan-Islamic unity. Founding members are Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen. Husseini is appointed in absentia President of Fourth Higher Committee.

1946, the British grant Husseini amnesty to weaken the Jewish presence in Mandate Palestine. He returns to Palestine.

1946, Hadj Amin is appointed leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jerusalem. Wahhabist Islam becomes the perfect carrier for Husseini’s policy of ethnic cleansing. He uses recently acquired Nazi methods to realise his vision of an Arab World free of Jews ("judenfrei"). Yugoslavia's request of extradition of Husseini from Egypt for War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity is refused by the Egyptian government.

Egyptian(!)-born Yasser Arafat, later to become a "Palestinian" icon, meets Husseini at age 17 and starts then working for him. Hadj Amin el Husseini is allegedly a great-uncle of Arafat, whose real name is Mohammed Abder Rauf Arafat Al-Kudwa Al-Husseini. Arafat reportedly changed his name to disguise his nationality or his connection to Husseini or both, although why he should disguise family ties with a Pan-Arab icon like Hadj Amin I can't quite fathom. This, too, destroys the myth that the "Palestinian" fight against the "Israeli occupation is a political, secular struggle and not a part of global Islamic jihad.

Post-WWII, Husseini is directly involved in providing a safe haven to ex-Nazis in Arab countries and the main connection with Francois Genoud, Swiss banker of the Third Reich, who finances the ODESSA network with money stolen from European Jews. Genoud, visits Husseini several times in Beirut and sponsors Arab Nationalism with Nazi money. In Cairo and Tangiers, Genoud sets up an import-export company called Arabo-Afrika, as a cover for an anti-Jewish and later anti-Israeli propaganda organisation.

Genoud sets up, too, Swiss bank accounts for the North African liberation armies of Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. Together with Syria, he sets up the Arab Commercial Bank in Geneva. 1962, he becomes director of the Arab People’s Bank in Algeria.

Putting up a picture of the Arab issue of "Mein Kampf" cost a German blogger recently his contract with his (German) ISP. Showing something like that is considered "hatespeak" by German law, while conveniently serving the purpose of keeping up a smokescreen preventing knowledge of German-Arab collaboration spreading too far.

1962, Hadj Amin el Husseini becomes president of his brainchild, the World Islamic Congress.

Husseini dies in Syria in 1974 at the biblical age of 81. Life is rarely fair.

His legacy of a worldwide war of Islamic conquest, of terror and eliminatory hatred of Jews continues to this day. Yasser Arafat (on the right) pays hommage to his mentor at the latter's funeral.

FDR's D-Day Speech & Prayer

British IBA contributor, Ray Boyd, is, rightly, concerned with the America-centric remembrance of the D-Day Operation. He passed along this important information:

The facts are that there were 48,000 US troops participating in D-Day. The British troops numbered 52,000. Canadian troops numbered 14,000 on that day.

British sailors were responsible for the seaborne operation, the Royal Navy the only allied seaforce. Even the US landing craft were manned by British sailors.

The floating harbours, undersea fuel pipeline and other logistical operations were designed built and installed by British personnel.

Whilst the French would liked to have excluded Britain from yesterday's events in Normandy we must remember the facts, not the fiction - British forces predomindated in numbers in the D-day landings AND will not be written out of history.

Three Cheers to Charles Johnson

I have been made aware of the feud between Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs and other bloggers at Lawrence Auster's VFR, and find the interpretation offered there credible. Frankly, LGF never hold any attraction to me and I never returned after some brief looks in the very first years of this millennium. Too big, too chaotic, too little substance.

Now some clever pranksters produced a rip-off of "Downfall" (German: Der Untergang), an Oscar nominated 2004 German/Austrian film depicting the final twelve days of Adolf Hitler in his Berlin bunker. The rip-offers subtitled the original German soundtrack anachronistically, to show Hitler (Charles Johnson) erupting in frenzied, paranoid rage over his loss of ratings, spies he's going to ban: "conservatives, fascists, creationists, Christians", who are all laughing at him, so he is sure (and very probably right).



I, personally, find that a breath of fresh air. The film is so abysmally bad, I mean TECHNICALLY bad (I am coming to the frightful ideological underpinning later) whilst having received the highest acclaim, that ANY ridicule is welcome to take it down a peg. Bruno Ganz' Hitler is chewing the scenery (pun not intended) as if he had confused films and thought he'd be in Amityville Horror, while reviewers are enthusiastically drooling over this ridiculous, self-indulgent crap, Corinna Harfouch is pulling out all her artistic stops from A to B depicting Martha Goebbels, and Ulrich Matthes as her husband Josef comes across as a dour interpretation of Mephisto in a Faust-production somewhere in the deepest provincial backwaters, white facepaint and all. The rest is worse.

Director Oliver Hirschbiegel's (Yes, we laughed too when we first read that name and he looks the part as well!) assessment of the beloved Führer, whom the film's makers sought to give a "three-dimensional personality" (I first thought that had something to do with Bruno Ganz' chewing the scenery) says all one needs to know: "We know from all accounts that he [Hitler] was a very charming man — a man who managed to seduce a whole people into barbarism."

But of course. Roughly 40 million of one of the culturally and technologically most achieving people in the history of mankind were magically charmed into crimes of so far unknown proportions, so to say against their will, by an ugly, funny looking epileptic Austrian housepainter of doubtful parentage. And 70 years later they are still so besotted with him that even the grottiest of films depicting his last pathetic days gets the highest acclaim, assisted in blissful ignorance by the [edited] Americans who graced this botch with an Oscar-nomination, presumably because they thought there'd be Panzerlied in it.

We are currently experiencing history revision of so far unknown proportions. Whether it is "Downfall" that explains that the Germans were victims of and string-puppets for Hitler, whether "Valkyrie" (interesting discussion here) tries to bring across the message that an utterly peripheral and not entirely blameless group of dissident insurgents stood for "a better Germany" that never existed, whether "The Reader" humanizes (and sexualizes) a perpetrator, the conscious or subconscious goal is to relativize German history, aided by idiot Americans wo hate to hate the Germans who have given, after all, Panzerlied to the world. Talk about the "leftist liberal commie" Hollywood coterie!

So thanks to Charles Johnson, whose antics have at least pushed the most obnoxious of those sorry efforts off its piedestal.

Is it really that easy to slide from Nazi to Muslim? Even I have a hard time with it

Fugitive Nazi lived as 'pious Muslim' at Cairo hotel
One of the most wanted Nazi war criminals, Aribert Heim or "Doctor Death," lived for years as a quiet, pious Muslim in a small hotel on the edge of Islamic Cairo, where he was known as Doctor Tarek.

Concealed in the labyrinthine streets of the largest city in Africa and the Middle East, the man wanted for killing hundreds of concentration camp victims with horrific medical experiments found refuge until his death in 1992.

"He was like a giant, not very chatty but he never missed a prayer at the mosque," remembers Gamal Abu Ahmed, who today lives in Dr Death's former room on the sixth floor of the Qasr el-Medina hotel.

When Abu Ahmed is told about the true identity of the former Nazi, as revealed by Germany's ZDF television and the New York Times on Wednesday, the former clothes shop owner does not seem taken aback.

"I knew him when I was 17 years old, I knew that Doctor Tarek, who I saw every day, was German and Muslim, and it never intrigued me," he told AFP.

It was in the Qasr el-Medina hotel, today a run-down building with stairways overflowing with rubbish, that the "butcher of Mauthausen" arrived on the run after converting to Islam and taking the name Tarek Farid Hussein.

"His life was very ordered, exercise in the morning, then prayers at the main Al-Azhar mosque, and long sessions spent reading and writing while sat on a rocking chair," says Abu Ahmed.

He says he doesn't know exactly when Heim got to Cairo, but that the Nazi had good relations with the Doma family, which owned the hotel, and with the manager, a German-speaking former Egyptian soldier called Mohammed Sherif.

More than 100 personal documents that were in the Doma family's possession as well as the testimony of Heim's son Rudiger, led to the unveiling of the true identity of the doctor who had been in hiding since 1962.

Leading Nazi hunter Efraim Zuroff from the Simon Wiesenthal Centre said last July that he believed Heim was still alive and living in either Argentina or Chile.

German public television channel ZDF said in a statement that Heim died of bowel cancer in 1992, citing his son and acquaintances in Cairo.

"He was found dead one day in his bedroom. There were no burial plans when the ambulance came to take his body away and his body was laid to rest in a communal grave," says Abu Ahmed.

Abu Ahmed says that Doctor Tarek's outings in the last 10 years of his life were as rare as the friends who visited him -- none of whom were German despite the fact that several former Nazis settled incognito in Egypt.

"He was very solitary and very pious. He didn't have a full beard, but he was never clean shaven, and always fasted during the holy month of Ramadan."

Born in Austria on June 28, 1914, Heim joined the Nazi party before Germany annexed Austria, when membership of the party was still illegal.

He then became a member of Hitler's elite SS guard in 1940 and, after stints at camps in Buchenwald and Sachsenhausen in Germany, was posted to the infamous Mauthausen camp in Austria.

It was at Mauthausen that he became known as "Doctor Death" after performing sadistic and grotesque medical experiments. Survivors of Mauthausen allege the father of three cut prisoners open, removing their livers, among other things.

His cruelty was such that he has frequently been compared to Josef Mengele, the so-called "Angel of Death" who was a doctor at Auschwitz.

Germans love Jews -- dead, that is!

I am probably the last person fit to comment on theological matters, so I refrained so far from saying anything in view of the ongoing discussion about the ex-excommunication by Pope Benedict XVI of that Holocaust-denying renegate bishop. However, the discussion here in Germany has become so strident, hysterical and impertinent, that I'd like to comment, even if only briefly.

While the statement, that the Pope hadn't known about the Holocaust-denial of Williamson (the much-publicized interview was, in fact, given AFTER the excommunication was revoked, but his stance wasn't new) shows that the information system of the Vatican leaves a lot to be desired, it wasn't in any way discussed, let alone the not entirely outlandish conspiracy theory that the pope was conned.

The instead ensuing anti-Catholic hate orgy in the media violated, and is still violating, any common standard of journalistic ethics (an oxymoron if I've ever heard one). I can not tell how many times I had to listen to the tale of the "rehabilitation of the Holocaust denier", and even the very last theological troll was allowed to let loose his inner child. Hans Küng, who called for the "resignation" of the pope and who is particularly qualified to comment on Jewish topic as he considers, for once on the side of traditional Catholicism, "the international law-violating occupation of the Palestinian territories by Israel since 1967" a reason for the deterioration of the Jewish-Catholic relations, concluded in an interview with the "conservative" newspaper Die Welt: "The number of Christians who have left the Holy Land is speaking for itself", conveniently forgetting that it isn't Israeli-Jewish "occupation" who does that but Palestinian-Muslim atrocities, lauding, eerily befitting, Islam's forceful Monotheism in the same interview.

And nobody laughed.

So what is the ex-excomunication really about? The four men may now attend again confession and receive absolution. They may receive communion and will not have to die without the solace of the sacraments of their church. That is all.

All, but very much for a Catholic.

But the public discussion is not really about that, it is about the authority of the pope and the Catholic church, who doggedly refuse to surrender their values to secular ones. The world will cease to despise Catholics once they've accepted the rules of political correctness as above the word of Jesus Christ, in other words, when they have ceased to be Catholics.

Germany is a secular country. Since the revision of paragraph § 166 StGB of the penal code in 1969, blasphemy has been abolished as a punishable crime. Holocaust denial, in contrast, has been elevated to a status where it is liable to prosecution, and the European Union, in the same spirit, refrained to include any reference to God in their constitution but made Holocaust denial a punishable crime as well.

Have superior ethics and morality been thus achieved?

Well, what can I say? There is certainly a difference between the importance that is given to the denial of the past Holocaust and the call for a future one.

If a Muslim-mob haunts the streets of our country chanting "Death to the Jews" it doesn't seem to be a big matter. If German politicians are rubbing shoulders with the Middle Eastern scum who are ready, willing and able to commit a second Holocaust, most of them deniers of the first one themselves, it's mostly a good thing. If a dialie dialogue with Islam is promoted, it's received with enthusiastic acclaim. Hasn't it, after all, been exceedingly fruitful in the past already?

Thus, the "Never Again" solemnly and hypocritically sworn at any Liberation-of-Auschwitz-Day, turns well-nigh into the precondition for the "Way to go" for the next one.

A Self-Hating German's Musings

On November 29, I wrote:

If Germany is very happy with Obama (and it is indeed), it has nothing to do with "too much of [America's] traditional nationhood". It is because Germans either sense or recognize this man's deeply anti-American outlook and effect, and, of course, a deeply ingrained envy of that very traditional nationhood and America's right to enjoy it unselfconsciously.

I hadn't read John Rosenthal's entry at Pajamas Media "German Publishing’s Man in the White House - Obama's ties to Bertelsmann are a massive conflict of interest yet to be fully disclosed" dating November 21, then.

Rosenthal informs us that the

...publicly funded Franco-German “cultural” channel Arte did not waste any time celebrating the dawn of a new era in transatlantic relations. This is the same Arte, incidentally, whose earlier contributions to transatlantic understanding have included a report accusing American soldiers of beheading Vietnamese civilians during the Vietnam War and a portrayal of President George W. Bush with devil’s horns and fangs. On the day after the election of Barack Obama to succeed the outgoing demon-president, the channel broadcast a 70-minute-long special, live from Washington, with the highly imaginative title “A Black Man in the White House” [Un Noir à la maison blanche]. (To their credit, the editors at Arte-Germany chose to abjure the racist impulses of their French counterparts and titled the show instead “Obama: A New Wind in the White House” [Frischer Wind im Weissen Haus].) The guests on the program included Annette Heuser, the executive director of the Bertelsmann Foundation’s new Washington, DC, office. The influential German foundation set up shop in DC just this past spring, presumably in anticipation of the impending “change.” Host Daniel Leconte revealed that the foundation had even helpfully prepared “a little aide, a little white book” for the incoming president on how to conduct his relations with Europe. He was careful to interject that the “white book” had been prepared for both candidates

In any case, Bertelsmann can be sure that Mr. Obama will read its “little aide, its little white book” very carefully. For — as Ms. Heuser failed to disclose and as was not mentioned either in an op-ed on Obama that she published in the Washington Post in July — the Bertelsmann Corporation happens to be the president-elect’s principal source of income. It was Bertelsmann, namely, that agreed to pay Obama a reported $1.9 million in advances for a three-book deal that the then-senator-elect signed with its fully owned American subsidiary, the Random House publishing group, in December 2004. And who knows? The real amount of the deal might well be more than the reported amount. After all, it was only in April of this year that we discovered that a reported $10 million book deal signed by former President Bill Clinton with Bertelsmann/Random House in 2001 had in fact been worth $15 million. (See my earlier PJM report on “Bill Clinton’s German Paymasters.”)

Rosenthal suggests that, in the interest of transparency,

...Obama should surely now release the full details of his contractual relationship with the Bertelsmann Corporation. After all, if one is to judge by his recent tax returns, even as president, he will be paid far more by Bertelsmann than by the American taxpayers. For him to be taking advice from the Bertelsmann Foundation suggests conflict of interest on a magnitude that has perhaps never before been seen in the history of the American presidency.

As one of the commentators put it: And that from the guy who is unable or unwilling to even reveal his birth certificate.

To my great relief, John Rosenthal then does exactly that what has earned me the epithet of a self-hating German when Americans would SO much prefer to listen to "good patriots" and "reliable allies", and exposes the transatlantic relationship as the lead ball it is:

It might be considered irrelevant today that Bertelsmann massively collaborated with the Nazi regime during World War II. (For more on this, see “Bill Clinton’s German Paymasters.”) But it is surely not irrelevant that when German researcher Hersch Fischler first brought this fact to light, the family proposed to have the matter further investigated by one Dirk Bavendamm. Bavendamm is the family’s “in-house” historian, having written no fewer than three commissioned histories of the Mohn family and the Bertelsmann Corporation. As so happens, he is also an open revisionist, who calls World War II “Roosevelt’s War” and suggests — à la contemporary 9/11 conspiracy theorists writing on George W. Bush — that Franklin Delano Roosevelt intentionally permitted the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor to occur. Bavendamm has even written a book on the subject with the curious title Roosevelt’s War 1937-45 and the Puzzle of Pearl Harbor [Roosevelts Krieg 1937 -- 45 und das Rätsel von Pearl Harbor]. “With the events of December 7-8, 1941 [i.e., the attack on Pearl Harbor], Roosevelt … had achieved his most important aims,” Bavendamm has written in an essay on the subject [German link], “America’s entry into the War occurred with the enthusiastic consent of the overwhelming majority of the American people — … Roosevelt had finally convinced them that it was their sacred duty, guns in hand to defend freedom, democracy, and prosperity around the world.” (For more on Bavendamm, see Hersch Fischler and John Friedman’s “Bertelsmann’s Revisionist” here.)

The theory that the Pearl Harbor attack was a set-up is, incidentally, standard neo-Nazi fare. Interestingly enough, in his infamous “God Damn America!” sermon, Obama’s longtime pastor Jeremiah Wright invokes precisely this theory as apparently well-established fact: “The government lied about Pearl Harbor too,” he says. “They knew the Japanese were going to attack. Governments lie.”

Lost Quran archive in Germany

A facinating article in the WSJ about an archive of Quranic research that was thought lost for a long time, but has now been found, that shows that there were a lot of German nazis who'd been experts on Islam.

On the night of April 24, 1944, British air force bombers hammered a former Jesuit college here housing the Bavarian Academy of Science. The 16th-century building crumpled in the inferno. Among the treasures lost, later lamented Anton Spitaler, an Arabic scholar at the academy, was a unique photo archive of ancient manuscripts of the Quran.

The 450 rolls of film had been assembled before the war for a bold venture: a study of the evolution of the Quran, the text Muslims view as the verbatim transcript of God's word. The wartime destruction made the project "outright impossible," Mr. Spitaler wrote in the 1970s.

Mr. Spitaler was lying. The cache of photos survived, and he was sitting on it all along. The truth is only now dribbling out to scholars -- and a Quran research project buried for more than 60 years has risen from the grave.

"He pretended it disappeared. He wanted to be rid of it," says Angelika Neuwirth, a former pupil and protégée of the late Mr. Spitaler. Academics who worked with Mr. Spitaler, a powerful figure in postwar German scholarship who died in 2003, have been left guessing why he squirreled away the unusual trove for so long.

Ms. Neuwirth, a professor of Arabic studies at Berlin's Free University, now is overseeing a revival of the research. The project renews a grand tradition of German Quranic scholarship that was interrupted by the Third Reich. The Nazis purged Jewish experts on ancient Arabic texts and compelled Aryan colleagues to serve the war effort. Middle East scholars worked as intelligence officers, interrogators and linguists. Mr. Spitaler himself served, apparently as a translator, in the German-Arab Infantry Battalion 845, a unit of Arab volunteers to the Nazi cause, according to wartime records.

The Munich archive began with one of Mr. Nöldeke's protégés, Gotthelf Bergsträsser. As Germany slid towards fascism early last century, he hunted down old copies of the Quran in the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. He took photographs of them with a Leica camera.

In 1933, a few months after Hitler became chancellor, Mr. Bergsträsser, an experienced climber, died in the Bavarian Alps. His body was never given an autopsy; rumors spread of suicide or foul play.

His work was taken up by Otto Pretzl, another German Arabist. He too set off with a Leica. In a 1934 journey to Morocco, he wangled his way into a royal library containing an old copy of the Quran and won over initially suspicious clerics, he said in a handwritten report about his trip.

The Nazis began to use Arabists early in the war when German forces began pushing into regions with large Muslim populations, first North Africa and then the Soviet Union. Scholars were used to broadcast propaganda and to help set up mullah schools for Muslims recruited into the German armed forces.

Mr. Pretzl, the manuscript collector, appears to have worked largely in military intelligence. He interrogated Arabic-speaking soldiers captured in the invasion of France, then, according to some accounts, set off on a mission to stir up an Arab uprising against British troops in Iraq. His plane crashed.

In September 2005, Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published a series of cartoons about Prophet Mohammed. This event lead to violent protests by Muslims worldwide in February 2006. The embassies of Denmark and Norway were torched. 139 people were killed in Nigeria, Libya, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The rioters justified their acts claiming the publication of the cartoons was a grave insult to their religion. Muslim countries called for limitations to the Freedom of the Press in the West to avoid offending their sensitivities.

The Zionists, who constituted a strong political party in Europe, caused much disorder there. (Someone has known about a Zionist European political party in 1900?)

Since they had a lot of property and controlled an empire of propaganda, they made the European governments helpless (oops, I'm learning so much "European History" today) .

What Hitler and the German Nazis did to the Jews of Europe at that time was partly due to these circumstances with the Jews (oops, but the Holocaust, wasn't just an invention from evil Westerners? weren't many doubts there which should be investigated?).

They wanted to expel the Zionists from Europe because they always were a pain in the neck for the governments there (of course, you nailed it. The only or the main problem of Europe from 1900 to 1930's were the properties of the Jews and their "empire controlled propaganda". The communism, the fascism, the nazism -uups, this was not a problem, it fighted the evil Joooooooossssssssss- or the wars that preceded the fall of the Ottoman Empire, were nothing... :evil: ).

This is how calamity fell upon the Muslims, especially the Palestinians, and you all know this history, more or less. (more or less? would you be so kind as to explain this evil Crusader-Zionist-Westerner-Infidel-Catholic-Spanish female -oops, yeah, I'm all of that....... I'm beginning to be scared of myself... ) if it was more more than less, or if it was more less than more??? Of course, the Muslim world was totally in decline since the Middle Ages, BUT the culprits of the calamity are the possessions of the Jewish people in Europe... I'm going to present this man for Hollywood Film Awards -preferably the Oscars- or maybe for the Nobel Prize, that is so renknown nowadays....  )
