Rep. Wolf again petitions for probe of Northern Va. Islamic schools

Rep. Frank Wolf on Tuesday again asked the State Department to take a more active role in addressing whether textbooks being used at two Islamic Saudi Academy campuses in Northern Virginia promote violence or intolerance.

“I urge you once again ... to conclusively determine what is being taught at the school,” the Republican, who represents Virginia’s 10th District, wrote to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. “As I noted in my last letter, if [the academy] is in the process of adopting new curricula, as State’s response indicated, then this review would have the effect of determining once and for all whether there is any merit in these persistent concerns and if so what must be done about it.”

This is the fifth letter Wolf has written to Rice about the schools, which have campuses on Richmond Highway near Alexandria and in Fairfax City.

In June [2008], a U.S. commission issued a report that outlined a series of hate-filled teachings they said remained in the schools’ curricula. The passages authorize the killing of adulterers and converts who leave Islam, condemn Jews, and celebrate martyrdom.

Stop Saudi Madrassas in the U.S.

Saudis are using their oil money to build and run schools all over the world, including in the United States, that teach real Islam — the kafir-hating, democracy-overthrowing, violent, intolerant Islam we are here to defeat. These schools are called madrassas. Learn more about the Wahhabi Invasion of America here.

Part of the invasion is building madrassas.

This must be stopped. Here's a first step: Sign Brigitte Gabriel's petition to stop these madrassas in America. Enough signatures on this could send a powerful message to congress. Not only that, but the effort to get people to sign is a way to introduce the ideas to them, while showing them that others are aware of it too. Here's what the petition says:

We the people of the United States request an immediate stop to Saudi Wahhabi hateful education especially post 9/11 tragedy where 15 out of the 19 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia and were taught such education. This is just a small example of what is being taught.

We the people of the United States of America request that you, our elected officials, put an immediate stop to the Saudi Madrassas in the United States. The cornerstone of education in Saudi Arabia consists of the most pervasive themes in Islam. The book, published by the Saudi Cultural Mission to the U.S., quotes a document which contains 236 principles that explain how students should promote loyalty to Islam by denouncing any system or theory that conflicts with Islamic law. The students are also taught to understand Islam in a correct manner, how to plant and spread Islam throughout the world, and how 'to fight spiritually and physically for the sake of Allah,' with emphasis on early Islamic glories.

It then goes on to give examples of the kinds of teachings in the textbooks. Sign the petition below, and if you are a blogger, please put a link to this petition in your sidebar. CAIR Flunks Out

And at taxpayers' expense, too.

The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) released their annual school report cards this week, and the results show that two taxpayer-financed Islamic charter schools operated by officials of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) have failed miserably yet again. But protected by powerful political connections, including Ohio Governor Ted Strickland and Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, and apparently indifferent to their exploitation of the Somali children that comprise the vast majority of their students, the Islamic extremists running the operation appear to have no fear of losing their cash cows. In fact, Ohio educrats have renewed one school’s contract after five years of complete academic failure.

The two schools, International Academy and Westside Academy, are run by a group of local Islamic leaders, including CAIR national board vice chairman Ahmad Al-Akhras, CAIR-Columbus president and CAIR-Ohio board member Abukar Arman, and Islamic Society of Greater Columbus president and imam Mouhamed Tarazi (who serves as principal of one of the schools). At one time or another, all have served on the board of the local private Islamic school in Central Ohio, Sunrise Academy. [about which I recently posted here at Infidel Bloggers Alliance and thereby created quite a stir in the comments section]

...[S]ince International Academy opened, it has never met the state’s required “adequate yearly progress” standard and has never met more than two of the state indicators. Looking at the past three years of academic performance data, we find in four of the seven tested areas, test scores declined last year from the previous year.

The second school, Westside Academy, appears to be following in its older brother’s failing footsteps. Their state report card shows that they met state standards in one area — attendance. Across all grade levels and subjects, less than 20 percent of their students rated proficient or better. In one subject area, 3rd grade math, the school achieved zero percent proficiency....

At Darul-Uloom Al-Madania, Islamic Boarding School in Buffalo

Via this article at Dhimmi Watch, citing this article in the Buffalo News:

The principal of an Islamic boarding school on Buffalo’s East Side has been forced to resign after allegations that he was sexually involved with one of his students and that he claimed to have taken her as a second wife.

Evidence suggests Mohammed Ibrahim Memon, a father of seven, persuaded Sajidah Khan, then 21, to marry under Islamic law as a pretense to sleep with her. [...]

And he wants to bargain:

Memon also agreed to never teach in the girls school again if reinstated. [...]

There is more, with some odd twists. Apparently Memon, imam at Masjid At-Taqwa, finalized the marriage without the presence of the bride and with the approval of his legal wife. Read it all.

What's this? Another Madrassah In The United States?

Regular readers of IBA know that I frequently write about the Islamic Saudi Academy, here at IBA, at Northern Virginiastan, and at my own sites. Because the ISA is in the Northern Virginia, where I live, I have particular interest in that specific madrassah, so I also have Google alerts set up for "Islamic Saudi Academy."

The following recently popped up in my Google alerts and is about a madrassah in Central Ohio; of course, the word madrassah is never mentioned, although the photo at the aforementioned link shows all the females wearing the hijab - the symbol of support of shari'a law:

Islamic school hopes sun rises on plans for expansion

Sunrise Academy, the private K-8 Islamic school located in Hilliard, is filled to capacity this school year and looking to expand.

"We are in the process of looking for two buildings: one for a high school and one to purchase on the East Side to start an elementary over there," said Director Leah Mohiuddin.

"That is in the works. That is what our goal is," she said.

That's how the Islamic Saudi Academy started out, too. I watched it happen before my very eyes.

Generally speaking, officials are seeking high school space in Northwest Columbus.

A new elementary school probably would open with grades K-3 and expand one grade per year through eighth grade, she said. That is the model Sunrise Academy followed when it opened its doors a dozen years ago in a former library at 5657 Scioto Darby Road.

Another similarity to the Islamic Saudi Academy, which first bought out a private school, then got, for a time, rent-free space from Fairfax County Public Schools. Again, I watched it happen before my very eyes.

Is there a pattern with these Moslem schools in the United States? Looks like it. What's going on in your neighborhood?

Enrollment this school year is 340.

"We are full to capacity. There is a waiting list in every grade level. We turned away 200 to 300 children," said Mohiuddin.

"We just have so many children in our community. Parents are all looking for an education for their children in an environment where they can learn without being afraid of who they are. That is what we offer. We are not able to get every child in here, which is a shame," said Mohiuddin.

Sunrise students don't have to worry about intimidation by students who do not understand Islamic practice, including clothing style.

"In public school, people pull head scarves off the girls. Kids still call Muslim kids terrorists. It's sad. Education is the key and we just have to keep educating people," said Mohiuddin.

Girls and women may choose to wear a scarf or hijab in public for the sake of modesty as well as to prevent others from judging them based on their looks, several young Muslim women said in an interview last year.

Although Islam is the common religion for all at Sunrise, students' families come from 32 countries, each with its own cultural heritage.

Included are families with backgrounds from Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, Palestine and Puerto Rico.

The school is so diverse that Muskingum College and Ashland University send their education students and future teachers to Sunrise for diversity training, said Mohiuddin.

Members of the general public sometimes are surprised to hear classes are conducted in English and, as is the case in public schools, services are provided for those who are learning English as a second language.

Sunrise requires students to take classes in the Arabic language as well as in Islamic studies, said Mohiuddin....

Note that the author of the above article is written by the director of the school, and she is quite fond of quoting herself. Let's watch to see if she gets into the same trouble that Abdalla I.M. Al-Shabnan, head of the Islamic Saudi Academy, just squirmed out of.

As noted above, the name of the madrassah in Ohio is Sunrise Academy. Check out details about the "academy" at the school's official web site. The mission statement alone is enough to make you gag, provided that you know how to read through the code words:

Education is the primary vehicle through which a society acculturates its youth, thus retaining its identity. Because of the strength of faith of the Muslim community depends directly on its self-knowledge and its ability to integrate the principles and values of Islam into the individual, we at Sunrise strive to achieve and nurture the whole spectrum of the learner's potential: physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual.
