Former CAIR director now NYPD NYU Muslim Chaplain who led Orlando jihadist trip to Mecca
An Islamic center in New York has determined that in 2012, Omar Mateen traveled to Saudi Arabia during a trip which was organized by the Islamic Center at New York University. There was approximately 80 people who went on the trip with Mateen for an annual pilgrimage.
New York University spokesman John Beckman told the Wall Street Journal in a statement that people from Columbia and Yale universities also attended the trip with some members of the NYPD.
NYU claims that they learned about Mateen through the Wall Street Journal, and will work with authorities and will help assist with the investigation.
California’s Congressman Adam Schiff, top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, is demanding answers to the mass shooting. Schiff wants to know who sponsored Mateen’s trips to Saudi Arabia in which one visit Mateen stayed in a four star hotel, according to BREITBART News.
Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin wants to learn more about Omar Mateen’s job. Johnson also wants to know more about the security company that employed Mateen. He is also interested in what responsibilities Mateen had with the company that he worked for, according to TUCSON News.
Imam Khalid Latif, executive director of the NYU Islamic center and an NYPD chaplain, led the pilgrimage to Mecca to perform an umrah in Mecca. An umrah is considered the lesser pilgrimage compared the Hajj. Latif was appointed the first Muslim chaplain at NYU in 2005, and was selected as one of 60 NYC leaders to serve on Mayor Bill De Blasio’s Transition Team.
“Based on his blatant extremism and ties to a convicted Orlando imam known for facilitating international jihadists traveling, the strong likelihood is that these trips were not benign,” said Ryan Mauro, national security analyst for Clarion Project, a New York-based research institute that tracks global terrorism, according to FOX News.

The Word Radical Islam Doesn't Cut It

Now that the words Radical Islam is being bounced about more and more in more quarters, I propose that the words are not good enough.

Jihadism is fine. It defines the ACT of violent beliefs in Islam. But the word Radical Islam is not enough. It doesn't cover enough ground.

The apologists will sooner or later - when we are hit again and again - accept and use the words Radical Islam. But in doing so, they will use those words to protect their cherished narrative. Most Muslims are not radical and do not hold the jihadist beliefs. If we continue to use the words Radical Islam we will give cover to those apologists who want  to say that mot Muslims are moderate ignoring the polls of Muslims who support the basic tenets of Islam and use them to advance a POLITICAL AGENDA - otherwise known as the Political Jihad that IBA has been covering for years and is worse than the violent jihad - because it is invisible and the apologists cover it up and defend it in a number of ways. Political Correctness is one of them.

So I propose the word religious fundamentalism which is defined as:
 
A usually religious movement or point of view characterized by a return to fundamental principles, by rigid adhere to those principles, and often by intolerance of other views and opposition to secularism.

We should stop using the term Radical Islam and use instead FUNDAMENTALIST ISLAM. That term covers both the violent jihad and the political jihad that is just as dangerous and does not give shelter to the 'moderate' Muslims who adhere to the fundamental tenets of Islam and at any moment - could tun into jihadis. And if they do, they hold values and mores in opposition to our Christian-Judaeo and Constitutional way of life. 

This would be the litmus test. Are you as a Muslim a fundamentalist? How many of the tenets of Islam do you hod? Sharia Law?

Approximately 20 dead, 42 injured.

It was "Latin night" at the club.

Shooter is dead. He had an explosive device on his body. Shooter not from the Orlando area.

FBI has stated this is a terrorist attack.

Interesting information is coming out about the murder Christina Grimmie, which happened at another Orlando, Florida nightclub just the night before. 
Apparently she was an unapologetic Christian.  
Her murderer's "insane rantings" were scrubbed from the internet before he was publicly identified. Now MSM is making no mention of her religion and stating the killer had scant on-line presence. 
Police are "looking for motive". Right. He went to the show specifically to murder her.

 FBI is saying that the shooter may have made terrorist threats in the past but won't say that where these allegations are coming from.

Also, the shooter was born of parents from Afghanistan. [unconfirmed]

Omar Mir Seddique Mateen has been named as the gunman who killed as many as 20 people and wounded 40 others at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, CBS News reports.

He was later killed by police after taking hostages at the LGBT club.

Mateen, 29, is a U.S. citizen from Port St. Lucie, Florida, according to CBS News. He has ties to radical Islamic ideology, CBS reports.

Port St. Lucie is about 125 miles away from Orlando.

Worker who cared for Orlando MERS patient hospitalized, another sick
ORLANDO -- Two Orlando health care workers who treated a 44-year-old man with MERS now have flu-like symptoms. One was admitted to the hospital, while the other was sent home.
Test results are expected today to find out if they and approximately two dozen others, who had contact with the patient, have contracted the potentially deadly disease. If any results come back positive, it'll be the first time MERS is contracted in the U.S.

Florida MERS Patient Sat In A Busy ER For Nearly 8 Hours
Almost eight more hours passed before staff at Orlando's Dr. P. Phillips Hospital determined the patient had traveled from Saudi Arabia, where he worked at a hospital, began to suspect his exposure to MERS and had him moved to an isolation room, the hospital's chief quality control officer said...While the Orlando patient waited to be admitted, he was treated in a single room in the emergency department where healthcare workers wore gloves and gowns due to his diarrhea, but did not wear goggles and face masks appropriate for protecting them from the virus, Crespo said.

Florida officials said they were monitoring the health of 20 healthcare workers who had been in contact with the patient, including a doctor who had already left for Canada. They also were trying to track down nearly 100 people who may have overlapped with the patient at two Orlando medical facilities he visited.

Woman exposed to MERS speaks out -
22 hospital workers asked to stay home
Health officials said Tuesday roughly 500 people may have been exposed to the MERS virus by flying on planes within the United States with the sick patient.

One of those travelers learned Tuesday morning she had been exposed and was sent a health checklist.

"They informed me that there was a confirmed case of the MERS virus from my flight from Atlanta to Orlando. I was really scared," said the woman who does not want to be identified, but lives in Virginia and flew with her husband on May 1 aboard the same Delta flight with the MERS-infected patient.

Twelve days after her flight, her State Health Department called and sent her a letter that reads:

"You were exposed to a person with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome(MERS) on your flight" and asks if she has symptoms like fever (100.4 f degrees), cough, difficulty breathing, wheezing, or pain when coughing or breathing deeply. She and others who flew with the MERS patient must record their temperature for 14 days after their exposure."

"I was in shock that I could actually contract it. We're considered exposed but there was no level associated with that. They just said to me, 'You and your husband are considered to be exposed to the MERS virus,'" she said.

She and her husband have no symptoms but still have to monitor their health and they have until May 15 before they are in the clear.

Health officials said the MERS patient continues to improve at the hospital. Health officials said because he was not coughing on board the flights, the risk of spreading the virus to people on the plane is very low. The risk continues to decline among people who had even less contact with him at the airport or elsewhere.

Dr. Kevin Sherin, with the Florida Department of Health at Orange County, said, "I think the risk is negligible to this community."
