These thoughts are offered in the spirit of ignorance, and almost as a long series of propositions which require questioning and correction from readers.
I have read article after article about Russia and Georgia, and I find them to be lacking. Frankly, even Bolton's article seemed to lack a real nuance.
So, here are my thoughts. Please, tell me where I'm wrong, and/or confused.
The currenct crisis with regard to Russia is one of those situations that I do not feel prepared to write about, but if you ask me, the really strange thing here is Poland.
The Georgia thing has been brewing for awhile, and I believe it's over the oil pipeline. And, if I am not mistaken, it is over Russia's control of the flow of oil to Europe.
Russia wants to control the oil market forces.
My hunch is this is happening now because of Iran. Russia believes they are putting pressure on the market, so we (Israel/USA) will be reluctant to hit Iran.
But, as I said, the strange thing is Poland. What is strange is I think that in a twisted way, Russia actually has a point.
Would we allow Russia to put a "Missile Defense Shield" in Cuba?
See what I mean?
What's to say these missiles are only defensive?
And, by the way, think about this, the analysis we get from lefties on this subject is that it's ok for Russia to invade/seize neighbor territories if there are enough ethnic Russians there.
You know, that was EXACTLY Hitler's argument vis a vis Chechoslovakia and Poland. And Chamberlain and company bought it, just like the lefties are doing today.
I'm currently reading the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. The parallels are eery.
Here's something to worry about. Russia is flush with oil money and they are in a far better position than we are in terms of being able to build a military, especially if they are willing to work with the ME, and I believe they are.
We're living in interesting times.

To me Russia ssems to want to be the Soviet Union again; they apparently are going to be able to continue on this path. We spmply should've kept coming with our troops also when we brought back thiers from Irag, at least made a statement. Iran would've heard that one also. Judging from the reports these Russian pilots literally could not hit the broadside of a barn.
The Polish missle defense has an actual purpose (Iran), what would be the reeason for Cuba?
What if a majority of the populations of California, Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico decides that they no longer wish to be a part of the United States [of America] A disproportionate percentage of the continent's wealth is concentrated in the South western region. Why should the people of that blessed region be shouldered with any responsibilities toward the crumbling and unproductive Mid-West and Eastern regions?
California and Tejas are Republics, and quite able to dissociate themselves from the rest of us.......if they feel so-inclined.
Why would California and Texas want to do a thing like that?
So we can begin to protect our borders? Is that what you're thinking?
Hmmmm....Lower taxes, promises of benefits, discounted gasoline, there could be many scenarios.
Why would Kosovo, Ossetia, Chechnya, White Russia, Poland, Slovakia, etc. do it? (As a solo act, California is the world’s fifth- or sixth-largest economy.)
What would the rest of America think about such a thing?
Of course we will have to have a very large fence!

Russia may be far more concerned about crazed muslims taking over Georgia and beginning insane butchery of school children than a little oil
«What if a majority of the populations of California, Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico decides that they no longer wish to be a part of the United States...»
What would that be? Split the camp... For *somebody else*?
Moderationist,
I have heard this theory floted, but I have Yet to see evidence for it.
Of course, the MSM is great at hiding these problems aren't they?
