I think that Obama's supporters are giving him a sort of semi divine status. Troubling really.
It's very troubling. People seem to be in the mood for a Messianic figure to come save them.
The problem is, they are looking in the wrong direction.

In the direction of themselves - not the man on the white horse.
Well, I think the Messiah was this dude named Yeshua Ben Joseph. He live about 2000 years ago. He was Jewish and he fulfilled the prophecies of the "Old Testament."
Other people will have other opinions, including the opinion that the Messiah will never come, because there is no God.

That's how I think about the Messiah.

Agreed. Damien asked me which direction to look. I answered with my opinion.
I am not fool enough to think I have abolute understanding on ultimate issues, so I know I could be wrong. And, I don't discout anyone for following another path.
I would only discout a religion like Islam, which calls on its adherents to kill one another.
The only other religion I know which is remotely like that is extremist Satanism.
