Wait a minute Muslims, you can't drink that!

The watchful folks in the Malaysian Government are hot on the case of a 'halal beer' that's surfaced here in Malaysia.

An unnamed minister from the Prime Minister's department--near the very top of the Malaysian power structure--has stated that this so-called halal beer, marketed as having only .01 percent alcohol, had been tested by Malaysia's Religious Police and found to have .5 percent alcohol. This goes way over the line; Allah have mercy! Naturally, in the interests of protecting Muslims and Islam, such a beverage will be immediately banned and removed from shops. Arrests of the producers, distributors and/or sellers of said forbidden beverage are likely to follow.

The fact that the Religious Police ('JAKIM', or 'Islamic Affairs Department' in English) in Malaysia routinely conduct such investigations into such minutiae, with sweeping powers of investigation, arrest, and imprisonment, will raise no eyebrows in Malaysia. But for those outside of this country, such a state of affairs should aptly illustrate the totalitarian nature of Islam. JAKIM enforcers are a common sight in Malaysian hotels, nightclubs and other 'sinful' spots, as these thuggish figures struggle to keep Malaysia's Muslims 'safe from vice'. And woe betides anyone who happens to be in their way.

In fact, to be a Muslim here, or anywhere else for that matter, is exactly like being treated as a child. You are permanently rendered as incapable of exercising judgment or having any appreciable freedom in your life, beholden to an never-ending list of 'do's' ('halal') and 'don'ts' ('haram') that govern every conceivable facet of your public and private existence. When Muslims aren't busy persecuting insufficiently devout Muslims or followers of competing belief systems, they endlessly argue about what's 'haram' or 'halal' in our fast-changing modern world, according to 1400-year-old religious teachings from the deserts of Arabia.

So, if you consciously decide to become a Muslim, you might as well turn your brain off--you won't need that where you're headed!

Nothing Changes on New Year's Day

Shalom, all.

The new year 2011 is already more than 24 hours old here in the fair Melayu Islamic Republic.  Events in 2011, unfortunately, seem decidedly 'old year' with an Islamic-inspired church bombing in Egypt.  The new year looks a lot like the old year, but what else could we expect?

On television here in Malaysia today there was a programme I saw with a brief scene involving a phone call between an American character and an Israeli one. The dialog certainly involved nothing objectionable--the characters were discussing their wishes for the future and expressing their hopes for a peaceful world. And the scene wasn't long--maybe two to three minutes at most.  But I discovered another thing that the Malaysian Guardians of Morality (i.e. the Muslim censors) do not want people to hear or see, besides the usual and profanity, violence, or nudity.

What horrible word did they remove from this conversation?  It was the word "shalom", repeatedly and consistently removed, in that brief scene on television. I could read the lips of the actors, and considering the context, there was no doubt that this was the 'offensive' word in question.

So, what is so terrible about the word "shalom" that the Malaysian authorities don't want us to hear it?  "Shalom" has multiple meanings, such as 'peace' and 'hello' and 'goodbye', and is used in the same way and meaning as the Arabic word "salaam".  What could be so terribly offensive about any of those meanings?  The only conceivable reason why the Right Honorable Islamic Censors would want to omit this word from a TV show is solely because it is a Hebrew word. Hebrew must be a language that the anti Semitic, Jew-hating Malaysian government wants to erase from our collective memories. There can be no other explanation.  This thought is almost as disturbing as the carnage freshly wrought by the Islamic bomber(s) in Egypt. I am against censorship in general, but this degree of censorship is particularly appalling. We cannot and must not let these people have their way.

So let us always remember the word 'shalom' and especially remember the meaning of this word, for our world so desperately needs it.  Let's all use the Hebrew words that the Malaysian government so desperately does not want the world to hear.

Ongoing jihadist recruiting in Malaysian universities

Or as Captain Renault from 'Casablanca' might have deadpanned, "I'm shocked, shocked to find 'militant recruiting' going on in here."

This headline from AFP reads "Malaysian colleges a hotbed for militant recruiting".  Uh, militant what, exactly?  Militant Christianity?  Militant Buddhism?  Militant environmentalism?

Remember that the media encodes their coverage of the Islam's Great Jihad against the World--'militant' is always a codeword for 'a devout follower of Islam' or 'one who wages jihad (violent or otherwise) against kufr,apostates, and other enemies of Islam.'

Besides, since we all, ahem, know that 'militancy' is caused by poverty, a lack of education, and a lack of knowledge of the supposedly peaceful teachings of Islam, shouldn't Malaysian universities be the last place such recruiting would take place?

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia's universities have become prime recruiting grounds for Islamic militants looking for youngsters to draw into terrorist networks, security experts warn.

Unlike neighbouring Indonesia and Thailand, the moderate Muslim-majority nation has remained largely free of terror attacks but there are fears that lax admission policies have created a haven for jihadists. (Of course, the creation of jihadists has absolutely nothing to do with the teachings of the Quran and Islam. Never ever think about that, dear reader!)

A string of arrests and detentions this year have highlighted the growing presence of radicals using Malaysia as a base to sign up supporters and plan attacks.

"The terror threat to Malaysia is very real in terms of terrorists who come in as students," Zamihan Mat Zin, deputy head of the Malaysian Islamic Training Centre, told AFP.

"They are under the radar so they can recruit and create terrorists in our midst," said Zamihan, who is among a group of Muslim scholars engaged by the government to rehabilitate terror suspects in custody. (They're 'under the radar' when your heads are in the sand, yes?)

In June, authorities deported 45-year-old Al-Qaeda-linked Syrian scholar Aiman Al Dakak along with eight other foreigners from Syria, Yemen, Nigeria and Jordan, most of them students. (Most of those places are majority Muslim countries...just a coincidence, n'est-ce pas?)

Al Dakak gave lectures to Malaysian and foreign students at his Kuala Lumpur home, allegedly indoctrinating them with jihadist ideology and urging them to carry out bombings on places of worship in the multi-ethnic nation. (What's the difference between 'jihadist ideology' and Islam? Isn't it a distinction without a difference?)

The following month, engineer Mohamad Fadzullah was detained under internal security laws for trying to recruit students at Malaysia's national university and technical institutes for the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) extremist group.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said after the deportations that the phenomenon was an "unhealthy trend which can affect national security". (Yeah, piles of dead bodies and explosions in major cities can be 'unhealthy'.)

He said foreign militants were using Malaysia as a base to carry out financial transactions, share information and sign up new followers. (emphasis added)

Apparently the wise Muslims who run this country have conveniently forgotten about the last two terrorist kingpins that came from this country.  Both, as it were, were highly educated MUSLIMS who taught in Malaysian universities.

1. Afghanistan: former Muslim could be sentenced to death penalty for conversion: Sayed Mossa, an Afghan convert from Islam to Christianity, has been scheduled to stand trial today and most likely will be sentenced to death. His trial for apostasy will probably be televised in the war-torn country, and it appears Mossa may not even have adequate representation. Every lawyer, all Muslims, that has been appointed by the courts to represent Mossa have refused. They dare not defend someone who converted to Christianity. Mossa is a 45 year old, married, father of six children. His youngest is 8 and he has one disabled child. Mossa is an amputee and has spent 15 years of his life helping others with the International Red Cross. However a co-worker turned Mossa in for being a Christian convert – a crime in most Muslim nations practicing Sharia law.
2. Egypt: cleric demands death penalty for importers of female virginity-faking device. Abdul Mouti Bayoumi said supplying the item was akin to spreading vice in society, a crime punishable by death in Islamic Sharia law. The device is said to release liquid imitating blood, allowing a female to feign virginity on her wedding night.
   
3. France: another Catholic church attacked. Father Gabriel, the parish priest, speaks to the press, almost in desperation. For several months, his church has been the target of obscene and offensive tags, excrement-throwing … And last week, the cypresses adjacent to the religious building were set on fire, threatening to spread the flames to church. For this priest, “these acts have a direct link with what is happening in Iraq where Christians were attacked.” At the outset, Father Gabriel talks about inter-community tensions and denounced a “climate of increasingly aggressive and violent maintained by a small group of young people 12/13 years up to 16 years.” At first, Father Gabriel was believed to “incivility” of unemployed youth in the neighborhood. Nonsense of teenagers in need of provocation.Then a few days before the fire of cypress, a youth entered the church during mass, urinating on the porch with while shouting this terrible sentence, “We’ll toast you all, you and your church.” The parish priest complained to the police on Nov. 9.

6. Malaysia: Dad in pork issue claims son is not Muslim. Debates and arguments in Parliament over the last two days had centred on whether or not his son Basil — raised by a Christian mother — was also Muslim. The father left Islam and now is registered as "non-Muslim".

   Pakistan: Christian woman sentenced to death on blasphemy charges: Some of the women workers had reportedly been pressuring Bibi to renounce her Christian faith and accept Islam. During one discussion, Asia Bibi (pictured) responded by speaking of how Jesus had died on the cross for the sins of humanity and asking the Muslim women what Muhammad had done for them. She is married and has 4 children. Her sentence has been appealed. There is an internacional campaign to help her.

9. Saudi Arabia: Facebook blocked for not conforming with values. The official announced that Saudi’s Communications and Information Technology Commission blocked the site and an error message shows up when Internet users try to access it.
10. Spain: Violent Muslim occupation of Cordoba Cathedral did not Violate Law against Offending Religious Sentiments, Judge Says.“There isn’t so much an intention to minimize or harm the religious sentiments of the Catholic religion so much as an attempt to favor, not to say clearly impose, in a false gesture of tolerance, the possibility of carrying out joint worship [in the cathedral],” the judge declared. “It doesn’t act to demerit or discredit the Catholic religion, but rather in favor of joint use.
11. Sri Lanka: maid alleges nail torture while working in Kuwait. he doctor said the woman had told surgeons that her Kuwaiti employers drove the nails into her hands and left leg – some as long as 3.5 centimetres (1.5 inches) – when she asked for her salary after working for six months. (AFP)

The four posts (in Tower Hamlets’ council) Lutfur has filled are all from the ranks of the councillors who defected from Labour to him before the election. They include Alibor Choudhury, a man with even closer links than Lutfur to the Muslim supremacist group, the Islamic Forum of Europe. Alibor has, incredibly, been given the key post of cabinet member for resources – that is, he will be in charge of the money.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said the Islamic Republic and Turkey have potentials to be forerunners of international nuclear disarmament, the local English language satellite Press TV reported on Thursday.”Iran and Turkey can be flag-bearers of nuclear disarmament in the globe to establish a world free from nuclear weapons,” Mottaki said in a meeting with head of Turkish Parliament’s Commission for Foreign Relations Murad Marjan in Tehran on Wednesday. Turkey, which is a partner of the US-led coalition against Iran along with Israel, possesses some 90 thermonuclear B61 bunker buster bombs at the Incirlik nuclear air base.
14. West Bank: Blogger faces potential life prison sentence for "insulting Islam". Husayin faces a potential life prison sentence on heresy charges for “insulting the divine essence.” Many in this conservative Muslim town say he should be killed for renouncing Islam, and even family members say he should remain behind bars for life.”He should be burned to death,” said Abdul-Latif Dahoud, a 35-year-old Qalqilya resident. The execution should take place in public “to be an example to others,” he added.

But her family is also fearing for the lifes of both his son and lawyer, both arrested with two German journalists when they were trying to speak about her. When attempting to secure lawyers for the two, authorities have said that the two men did not need legal representation.
4. Malaysia: exiled Muslim blogger accused of "insulting Islam" is free to return. He has refused: “This order has lapsed but it does not stop the authorities from seeking my client’s detention on other grounds should he return,” said lawyer Jadadish Chandra. He lives in the UK now.
5. Iraq: Pope sends mesage to Syriac Archbishop of Baghdad. Meanwhile, the Vatican envoy to the UN, Archbishop Chullikatt, said that although the Holy See favors efforts to protect religion from “hate speech and incitement to violence,” his delegation was uneasy with the approach that targets “defamation of religion.” In practice, he said, measures promoted to stop “defamation of religion” have actually “served as a means for State-sponsored oppression of religious believers.” Let's see if someone really begins protesting about the abominable UN Resolution on the Defamation of Religions.

Malaysian Blogger Jailed for Insulting Islam

NEW ZEALAND HERALD: Malaysia's leading blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin has been ordered to spend two years in detention under internal security laws after being accused of insulting Islam.

His wife, Lee Abdulah, said the founder of the controversial Malaysia Today website had been sent to the Kamunting detention centre in northern Perak state under a detention order signed by the Home Minister.

Enemy of Islam-- Avril Lavigne

Malaysia has told Canadian crooner Avril Lavigne to take a hike. Her KL concert scheduled for August 29th has been abruptly canceled by the government. The following super-lame official explanation has been offered:

Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Shafie Apdal said that the concert falls during the nation's independence period and was not a suitable time to hold such a concert.

There are a lot of events on Aug 29 and the Ministry does not want the independence and the near Ramadan month to be filled with such pop and rock culture, he said.

"As the Minister of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage, we should be instilling good culture in the young but here we are allowing other parties to organise things," he said Wednesday...

Don't you love the implied conspiracy theories here? Who said paranoia was just for military or espionage types anymore?

So, in the tried and true Pedestrian Infidel tradition of cutting the crap, this Malay bottom-feeding minister is really saying that he has unilaterally canceled Lavigne's concert for three reasons:

1. She's a female
2. She's a kufr
3. She's a singer

The Malay Muslim ministers who run--I mean own--Malaysia all know that perfect religion of theirs, Islam, is vulnerable to even the slightest waverings of doubt. What could cause such doubts? Well, things like the music of Grammy Award-nominated singers, or from books, or from Hindu temples, or from Christian churches. All things to be banished, banned or destroyed if possible.

Thanks Malaysia, for pulling the lever for BN (Malaysia's Muslim-run ruling political party). You've gotten over 50 years of life in an Islamic paradise, and what could be better than that?

The "Allah" Ban

So much for interfaithing, that idiotic process which attempts to equate the Abrahamic faiths.

In Malaysia, only Muslims may legally use the word "Allah." The law is being challenged by Christians:

A MALAYSIAN church and a Christian weekly newspaper are suing the Government for banning them from using the word "Allah", alleging the prohibition is unconstitutional and against freedom of religion.

The move follows the Government's declaration that "Allah" — which means God in the Malay language — refers to the Muslim God and can be used only by Muslims.

They are the first legal challenges against the mainly Muslim Government's decision, amid concerns that rights were being trampled on.

The Herald, the newspaper of Malaysia's Catholic Church, filed suit in early December.

The Sabah Evangelical Church of Borneo also took legal action this month.

If the courts do not find in favor of the Christians, maybe they can switch to the term "the moon god." Yeah, that'll work even better!

The Malay Dilemma, Revisited

Many years ago, the infamous jihadist apologist and now former Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad authored his now famous tome, “The Malay Dilemma.” Well, Dr. Moonbat was right about one thing -- Malays do indeed face a dilemma.

The first aspect of the Malay predicament is their near-psychotic fixation on race and 'racial' success, which is a significant driver in Malay politics and culture. For Malays, everything begins and ends with race and racial identity, a dangerous cultural ‘quirk’ that virtually begs for institutionalized paranoia. Making matters even worse is the fact that Malay racial politics or ‘racialism’ is official government strategy.

This relentless Malay mania for racial identity seeps into every facet of Malaysian life. All manner of Malay ‘rights’ are hard wired into the social contract and Federal Constitution, and is the enduring raison d’etre for long-standing government (i.e. UMNO) policies like NEP that trump logic, fiscal reality, and common sense.

Why Islamic terrorists are above criticism

News about Islamic terrorism is impossible to avoid these days, even in the sanitised Malaysian media. Unfortunately, it's highly unusual for Muslims in Malaysia to ever criticise their co-religionists, no matter how outrageous their actions are. Muslim terrorists regularly murder women, children, civilians, and non-combatants alike. They execute captured prisoners after the most vicious torture. Terrorists acting in the name of Islam also blow up mosques, murder imams, and even violate oaths taken on the Quran, such as when the Taliban captured the Afghan village of Qala Mussa earlier this year, after having sworn on the Quran to engage in negotiations with the local elders. And yet, there is rarely a hint of outrage in the Muslim world. Malaysia is no exception to this pattern.

In one of my past columns at Malaysia Today, I quoted one Ghazi al-Qusaibi, a former Saudi ambassador to London, and who is now a senior minister in the Saudi government. If you recall, he said:

“…flogging, stoning, and amputations are, in Muslim eyes, the core of the Islamic faith.”

Of course, as frequent Malaysia Today writer Mr. Farouk Peru would have it, this minister’s opinion on his own religion is simply the mad, misguided ravings of a lone nut case. Certainly, says Mr. Farouk, how could Mr. al-Qusaibi ever get such quaint, misguided ideas about Islam?

Very well then. Let’s consult the opinions of other well-known and respected authorities in Islam, and see what they have to say about their own religion...

Moderate Muslim Nation?

Some time back, I heard Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice cite Malaysia as moderate. If she still believes her own statement, then Ms. Rice needs to study up on the situation with Lina Joy, who converted to Christianity 17 years ago and whose plight hasn't received nearly the same amount of media attention as that of Abdul Rahman.

Article from the May 31, 2007 edition of the Middle East Times, emphases mine:

The woman at the center of a religious controversy in Malaysia has accused the country's highest court of denying her fundamental rights in rejecting her bid to be legally recognized as Christian, her lawyer confirmed Thursday.

Lina Joy's comments came a day after Malaysia's Federal Court rejected her attempt to win recognition of her conversion from Islam.

Joy, 43, had sought the removal of the word "Islam" from her national identity card.

But the Federal Court, the highest secular legal body, threw out her case and said that only an Islamic Sharia tribunal could legally certify her conversion....
