More about the troubling propaganda of a clothesmaker pushing modesty

About a week ago, I wrote about a clothesmaker named Sivan Ruham Moshe, who was disgustingly pushing modesty propaganda for women in fashion. Now, here's another puff piece from Ynet that's got similarly troubling propaganda in it. For example:

Before Katzin, model Eden Fines announced in 2021 that once a week she would dress more modestly “as a way to grow spiritually.” On other days, she continued posting provocative photos and opened an OnlyFans account. Another celebrity, model Nataly Dadon, began dressing modestly one day a week in 2022 and later expanded it to two. On a women’s tour she led in Brooklyn, she swapped her bikini for long skirts, long-sleeved shirts and, surprisingly, a wig – despite not being married and therefore not traditionally required to cover her hair.

“Today, a wig isn’t only a symbol of belonging, it’s a fashion item and even an empowerment item,” Dadon told Ynet. “Personally, I chose to pair it with moments of modesty. Twice a week, I dress modestly, not out of obligation but from inner connection. I love the nobility and calm in it. Where in the past I mostly revealed, today I find new beauty in simplicity and grace. Modesty isn’t a set of clothes but a state of mind.”

It's bad enough somebody sounds like she believes her natural hair's an abomination, which is definitely what she risks implying. Despite what she says, it is a set of clothes, and all based on moral panic hysteria. But here's where things become even more horrific:

A global trend with a local twist

Modest fashion is a global category, driven in part by Muslim influencers and luxury brands creating collections for Ramadan. In Israel, Jewish and Muslim women sometimes shop at the same modest boutiques. The upcoming Tel Aviv Fashion Week will feature, for the first time, ultra-Orthodox and religious designers presenting modest fashion collections.

Well, this is definitely telling too, when the writers and even the interviewees themselves indicate they see nothing wrong with the influence of the Religion of Peace. Which just further raises my suspictions this is, in a way, a stealth promotion for what the Religion of Peace would want, and how many people like this, religious or otherwise, could be favorable to Islam?

Still, modesty is not only about clothing but about control, argued Dr. Rachel Getz Salomon, head of the fashion design department at the University of Haifa. “In every war, modesty was recruited: every extra centimeter on a skirt meant another soldier would come home,” she said. “Fashion and modesty are almost oxymoronic. Religion despises fashion but also feeds on it.”

Salomon recalled seeing photos of her grandmother – the wife of a chief rabbi – wearing a mini dress with no head covering. “In recent decades, Israel has undergone a terrible radicalization,” she said. “The focus on modesty turns women’s bodies into a battleground.”

Yet within the strict boundaries, she sees an act of resistance: “Women check off the modesty box but still dress tight and shiny. They do what they want, while appearing to conform.”

Well I'm sorry, but this is still a very bad influence, because it risks legitimizing ideologies that reduce women to nothing more than sexual, imply women's bodies are an abomination, blame them for all the evils occuring in the world, imply they should be ashamed of their bodies, which is what many modern feminists have pushed, and that's offensive. And it only gets worse with the following:

Between parody and reverence

The modesty trend has also inspired parody. On the sketch show Mi Zot (Who Is She?) on public broadcaster Kan, actress Magi Azarzar plays “Alata,” a headscarf-wearing ultra-Orthodox influencer who mixes foul language with piety. Online creator Maor Maya produces parody videos under the character “Tut HaTzniut” (Berry of Modesty), which have even reached religious audiences.

“My mission is to bring queer representation to places it usually doesn’t go,” Maya said. “The women who make the original modesty videos are already a little parodic – they’re great performers with humor. My character adds a queer twist, but with respect.”

Forget it, this is telling too - so women dressing sexy is inherently wrong, but homosexuality is entirely okay? That's what this paragraph near the end strongly implies. All this does is make clear the puff piece is - what else? - left-wing propaganda, proving they were never truly favorable to skimpy dress after all. It's basically the same mindset that took place a decade ago in the USA, for example, and it's humiliatingly bad. The people pushing this should be looked upon in disgrace and shame. All they're doing is promoting more stealth propaganda that's hurtful to women.

Transexual who murdered 2 children at Catholic school in Minnesota was also antisemitic

Another horrifying tragedy where a transsexual committed a terror attack at a Christian establishment, similar to Tennessee's recent tragedy, has occurred in Minnesota:

A senior administration official confirmed to Breitbart News that the alleged shooter at a Minneapolis Catholic school changed from a male name to a female name at 17 years of age and identified as a female.

A document posted on social media was confirmed as authentic by the official. The document describes the name change as occurring in 2020 when the alleged shooter was a minor, and required parental sign-off on the change.

FOX News correspondent Brook Taylor reported that his mother signed off on the name change from “Robert” to “Robin.”

Breitbart News reported that police indicated the alleged shooter used a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun to carry out his attack on the school Wednesday morning. From outside the church, he shot through windows, striking children as they sat in pews during mass. Two children were killed and 17 other individuals were wounded.

Making matters worse is that the man pretending to be a woman was also antisemitic:

A trans-identifying gunman who attacked a Catholic school on Wednesday railed against Jews in multiple antisemitic journal entries.

The gunman, identified by authorities as 23-year-old “Robin Westman,” made numerous disturbing videos, journal entries, drawings, and other materials before carrying out the attack that killed two young children on Wednesday.

In part of his writings, Westman, who previously went by the name Robert before identifying as a woman, lashed out at Jews, according to The New York Post, which published translations of some of Westman’s entries that were written using the Cyrillic alphabet.

“If I will carry out a racially motivated attack, it would be most likely against filthy Zionist jews,” Westman wrote.

“I hate those entitled, penny-sniffing k***s,” he wrote elsewhere, using an antisemitic slur.

Westman also wrote a number of antisemitic and hateful messages on his firearm and magazines, including phrases like “6 million wasn’t enough,” “Israel must fall, release the files,” and “Destroy HIAS,” which refers to a Jewish aid organization.

Westman attacked Annunciation Catholic School’s church in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning as students attended mass, according to authorities. The gunman killed two students, ages 8 and 10, and wounded 17 others. Westman later turned his gun on himself, police said.

Westman’s weapons carried numerous other messages, such as “Where is your God?” “For the children,” “Kill Donald Trump,” and “Why so Queerious?”

Making matters worse, the monster also wrote racist comments about Indians and even used an Arabic word on his weapons:

...the 23-year-old shooter who stormed a Minnesota Catholic school had scrawled 'Mashallah', "Nuke India" and "Israel Must Fall" on the weapons used in the mass shooting.

[...] "Minnesota shooter had Mashallah and Nuke India written on his gun. He also wrote Israel Must Fall. Clearly influenced by anti-Indian and Anti-Jewish Islamic propaganda. Not really a shocker to see a person like this living in Ilhan Omar's district kill Catholics. Another example of the Red-Green alliance," Laura Loomer wrote in a post on X along with pictures of the weapons used in the mass killing.

Some will find it stupefying how LGBT practitioners are more than willing to support the Religion of Peace and do the dirty work for the ummah, even though Islam is hostile to LGBT ideology. But that just shows how some far-left LGBT practitioners are otherwise only in the business for the sake of serving as a 5th column against civilized values, and this terrible horror is yet another clue to how LGBT activists can be antisemitic, misogynist and racist as well. Condolences to the families of the victims. Trump, from what I read, has ordered flags to be set for half-mast in memory of the victims.

This horror also makes clear we can't stand for this kind of ideology any longer, seeing what damage it's wrought upon society, mental or otherwise. If nothing's done, a synagogue/ulpan/yeshiva could be the next to fall victim to these LGBT terrorists.

Transsexual ideology endangers civilization

Jason Hill makes some important points on why all the transsexual propaganda going about now is devastating civilization:

If you’re like me you’ve probably had it with being afraid of the sheer rise in power that the transgender movement has amassed in little over two years. It has many people scared, truly scared. Scared of saying (I’m going to say it): Biological men can never be real women; men cannot have babies; referring to oneself as “they” is beyond grammatically infelicitous, it renders one a nonsensical and a conceptual non-entity; the transgender affirmation of adolescents, which means agreeing to visiting a host of atrocities on a child’s body and plying it with irreversible drugs, is child abuse; trans women (biological men) have no business participating in (real) women’s sports. There I’ve said it all—at least as much as I care to for now. Why are people scared of offending trans people?

Misgendering another person, I am told, is the worst offense you can commit against another human being—as bad as rape and murder. No kidding. How did a small minority of people get to command the language, protocols, norms and framing methods of an entire culture in so short a space of time? Who handed all that power to them, and why?

The issue goes deeper if we look at the logical terminal point of radical transgenderism. It is a form of moral decadence. Why? Because ultimately it culminates in people signing up at the gender unemployment line. To unemploy yourself from your gender or, some would say, to recuse yourself from it, is to emancipate yourself from the moral dimensions that come with your sex identities. For the sake of rhetorical expediency, I shall say, yes: to unemploy oneself from one’s gender identity as well. I have heard it said often that young people are suffering from civilizational exhaustion, and that that is the reason they are relinquishing their binary sex identities. It’s my generation, however, and the ones preceding it that have a right to be exhausted. The millennials and Generation Z that have no business feeling civilizational exhaustion. It is Gen Z that has inherited a technologically advanced civilization built for them. You’d expect more adults to be coming out as trans if this were even a plausible explanation for the rise of transgenderism. This is not the case.

To describe this another way, it all emphasizes self-hatred for one's sex, and that's why it's only so self-destructive. Naturally, those who believe you're not allowed to "misgender" should be ashamed of themselves. Why, you can be absolutely sure many of those Orwellianists advocating this disaster now are some of the biggest antisemites/anti-Israelists around, and they'd desecrate everything about the Torah/Bible at the flick of a switch. Speaking of which, here's an example coming close:

But it is not just the case of individuals resigning from their ethical roles. We have a case of Jesus Christ himself being canceled as a cis-heteronormative patriarchal male and being queered and turned into a gender neutral, non-binary, total Woke trans star. In a new production of Jesus Christ Superstar, Jesus is played by a non-binary actor, someone who does not identify as male or female, and Judas is played by a woman. The twelve apostles are played by female or non-binary performers.

Jesus is the Son of God. He is Indubitably and immutably male. He performed distinctly male roles. He protected both the weak and the strong. He provided for the hungry and the soul-impoverished, and he left behind an enduring legacy on which others could pin their aspirational identities. When he acted, he did so decisively. He taught men the art of problem solving, and he taught them how to fix things. These are the responsibilities trans women (biological men) are renouncing and walking away from.

By contrast, you can be sure none of these wokeists would ever change the gender of Islam's Muhammed. Only a religion built on barbarism like the Religion of Peace is allowed to retain recognition of it's "prophet" as the man he was. Meanwhile, we have wokeists desecrating everything about differences between sexes, and displaying pure contempt for Judeo-Christian values, in some of the saddest examples ever seen in the modern age.

Jewish doctor in USA warns Israel will be next victim of transsexual disaster

Ariel Kahana interviewed a Jewish medical professional in New Jersey, who explained the sad obsession that's broken out with getting gender reassignment surgery to seemingly resemble the opposite sex, and warns that Israel is facing this horror too. Over in the USA:

Q: What is the explanation for this wave?

"The figure who formulated the sixties' theory that a person's biology – his body and his chromosomes – are completely separate from his subjective feeling as to whether he is male or female, was a professor of medical psychology named John Money. His research was eventually shown to be a failure and it was scientifically proven that the opposite was true. Nevertheless, the ideas of Money – who was later deemed to have sexually abused children – were adopted by the worlds of medicine, mental health, and psychiatry in the USA, and later on the education system too. Today, from kindergarten age, children already learn that their body might not necessarily reflect their gender." She is quoting a survey published in the New York Times, according to which more than 60% of those questioned in the 30-plus category said they believe that a person's sex is defined by his biological sex at birth. In contrast, 61% of those questioned in the 18-29 age group said they believe that their gender identity is separate from their biological sex.

"The difference between the younger and the older groups stems from the propagation of gender ideology. Children until the age of five undergo indoctrination at school. The result is a social phenomenon of young boys and girls who want to make the change, and on occasion even come to do it together as a group trend. In many cases, these are children who in any event are on the autistic spectrum or suffer from negative social attitudes, so that joining this trend provides them with the attention that they so dearly crave.

"The phenomenon is subject to broad coverage and immense popularity on social media. You might be taken by surprise, but in 2007 there was one clinic throughout the entire USA providing treatment for minors under the age of 18, who were contending with the issue of gender identity. Today, as far as I know, there are 300 of them. And here is one more statistic – the number of mastectomies carried out for gender reassignment more than tripled between 2016-2019. These are data provided by Vanderbilt University in Nashville."

It's devastating so many have been indoctrinated, but not shocking at all. And it's surely not even shocking that one of the advocates of this atrocity came to Israel as well:

In order to validate her claim that this involves experiments on humans, Grossman refers me to things said recently by Dr. Marci Bowers, a biological man who underwent gender reassignment surgery to become a woman and today serves as a leading physician in the field of medical transitioning in the US. According to Bowers, she and her associates work using a trial-and-error method: "Anybody who underwent surgery as a child and received 'blockers' [tablets to suppress the hormones responsible for sexual development] will never have testosterone (the key hormone in sexual development). So that we do not know if they will ever experience sexual satisfaction... I know that the feeling of proximity and intimacy is extremely important, so that a lack of this raised a red flag for me. We need to keep our eyes open and talk about this... Let's see what will occur... There are questions that do not have an answer... Is it possible to prevent the processes of puberty and then attain good results as adults? How can we guarantee that they will have a sexual response? Maybe we need to remove the blockers at a certain stage? Perhaps, to delay a little bit, here and there? Perhaps." By the way, Bowers visited Israel several years ago to provide instruction for physicians here how to conduct the gender reassignment surgery.

Needless to say, any "medic" who's willing to work in such abominable practice is unfit for the job, and should be ostracized if they do. For now, that Bowers paid a most unwelcome visit here should be warning enough of what Israel faces by extension.

The concern shared by Grossman and others is that financial interests combined with a radically progressive agenda are the driving force behind the wave of transgenderism that is sweeping across America. According to this assumption, the drug companies are promoting this gender confusion or "dysphoria" as it is termed in the professional jargon, as this generates mass dependency on their products, often for life.

"This is not the situation everywhere in the West. In London, the authorities closed down a clinic treating gender problems due to concern that it was providing inappropriate treatment for children. In Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, and other countries too, they are no longer prescribing blockers as there is no research data to prove that their use is safe. It is important to remember that from the outset, the blockers were never actually developed for use in gender reassignment."

Just before we part company, Grossman gives me several books she has written, including "You're Teaching My Child What?" and she also puts me in contact with a number of women in Israel who are trying to stem this tidal wave. Only two of them – Roni Sassover and Alix Aharon – are prepared to come forward and do so while being named. The rest prefer to remain anonymous.

As Grossman anticipated, this wave is indeed on its way to Israel. The Minister of Education, Yifat Shasha-Biton, has recently published guidelines relating to transgender students at school. In essence, the guidelines stipulate that a student should be treated according to his or her declared gender, and this of course also relates to sleeping arrangements in boarding schools, access to toilets, sports lessons, etc. According to the new guidelines, the parents might not necessarily be a part of this overall process. Outgoing Prime Minister, Yair Lapid, has welcomed this move.

Grossman: "The most important thing that Israelis need to know, is that those people promoting this agenda will intentionally approach children with a view to the long-term outcomes entailed in this process. When parents discover that their children have been brainwashed, it is already too late to do anything. Consequently, I say to anybody reading this article: please keep an eye on your children.

She's absolutely correct. It's unlikely you'll see most other news sources on the left reporting about this, unlike alleged complaints of religious coercion for Judaism. Of course, LGBT ideology has long come to represent a religion in its own way, and a lot of homosexual advocates practically copied from more common religions in their own approach.

Linda Sarsour An Enabler Of Sexual Assault?

NY Democrat Calls For Investigation Into Allegation That Linda Sarsour Covered Up Sexual Assault

A former employee alleged in a story published Sunday that Women’s March co-founder Linda Sarsour covered up and dismissed complaints of graphic sexual assault. Now New York Democratic state Rep. Dov Hikind is calling for an investigation into the charges.

Sarsour is accused of enabling the alleged sexual assault and harassment of a woman who worked for her, Asmi Fathelbab, according to the victim and two sources directly familiar with the matter.

The assault took place at the Arab American Association while Sarsour served as executive director. Fathelbab told The Daily Caller that instead of properly dealing with the complaints, Sarsour dismissed them because Fathelbab “was not attractive enough to be harassed” and the accused was a “good Muslim” who was “always at the Mosque.”...

Man, just look at this hypocrite talking about Tarzan's allegedly dated style

This week, I think I'll comment now on a recent would-be op-ed by Andrew Smith, who writes the Captain Comics column for Tribune News (and has written some apologia for Islam in the past), and what he's saying about the history of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan, which just recently had another motion picture adaptation (not especially successful, but that's beside the point). He starts off with the following:

1 Corinthians 13:11 tells us: "When I was a child, I spake as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child, now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things."

But Mr. Smith did not, and his dishonest approach to journalism is picture proof of that.

Is Tarzan one of those childish things? Is it time to put away the most famous creation of Edgar Rice Burroughs?

This question is pertinent because the durable Ape-Man returns July in "The Legend of Tarzan," a new big-budget movie, starring Alexander Skarsgård, Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz. The previews promise a gorgeous and heart-stopping film, where the special effects have finally caught up to the spectacle we could only imagine when reading the books of ERB.

And read him I did. Burroughs was part of the Nerd Canon, the books and authors that were virtually required reading for everyone in my generation who liked science fiction more than sports. I read every single Tarzan book (and every Pellucidar and John Carter of Mars book) one endless summer in junior high, back to back to back. It was glorious.

But even then, there were elements of the Ape-Man's stories that made me a little uncomfortable. As I grew older, the causes of that discomfort swam into focus.

For one thing, the subtext of Tarzan is more than a little racist.

Even as a 12 year old, the Li'l Capn wondered why the white guy was better at everything in Africa than the black people who already lived there. Sure, he was raised by apes, so he was swinging around in trees from a young age, developing different muscles and skills than ground-dwelling Africans. But if this is a world where a mother ape might adopt a baby human, is it logical that it only happened the once? And that it happened to the only white baby, one who got there by accident? Seems to me that there are ought to be a few black Ape-Men swinging around the Congo, equal in talent and ability to the transplanted English lord, if not superior.

Oh yeah, look who thinks he's qualified to comment on racial issues. If any of the black protagonists were depicted being raised by apes and calling odd noises while jumping around, people like him would say that was racist. Why, they'd even say it if the black cast members were depicted swinging from trees just like Tarzan! So what's his point? I'd say it's best that Burroughs refrained from trying anything like that, since it would look rather ludicrous if any black Africans were depicted the way he suggests. He goes on to argue:

To be fair, Jane Porter showed more agency than most female characters written at the same time. She was shrewd, tough-minded, and not above grabbing a knife and defending herself. But even so, she seemed to spend most of her time in the Tarzan books as a hostage.

And women who weren't Jane ... well, they spent all their time threatened, screaming and/or being captured by bad guys, apes, ant-men, ancient Romans, and a variety of other lost civilizations. They were utterly helpless.

Finally, there was one level of discomfort that was uniquely modern. And that was the awareness dawning on the Li'l Capn -- and much of the world -- that the many animals being killed in various ways in the ERB books were no longer so plentiful. Not only were many of them disappearing, but so were their habitats. So not only was the large-animal population of the African veldt vanishing, so was the possibility that all of those lost civilizations of ant-men and ancient Romans and such could possibly remain lost. As the world kept shrinking, the Tarzan books were becoming both environmentally reckless and laughably implausible.

I don't say all this to savage the Tarzan books. They were written in good faith, with no intent to harm anyone. They were just entertainment, and often joyous, vivid entertainment.

And Burroughs wasn't a bad man. He never wrote anything sexist or racist directly. Women in Tarzan stories didn't suffer sexual violence (although they did get tied up quite a bit), and many black characters were written with nobility, pathos and honor.

Oh, what's this? I'd better take a moment to note that Mr. Smith is one of the same media apologists for DC Comics' Identity Crisis, which featured an obnoxious anal rape (!), illustrated from an almost 1st-person perspective, making it look like the reader was meant to enjoy and/or participate, which makes the miniseries even more revolting and creepy in hindsight. Practically all the women - superheroines or civilian - were ineffective and/or helpless. And the worst part of all was that the story made light of a serious issue. If Mr. Smith's got no issue with that, I don't see why he suggested he'd have one if Tarzan's tales had featured anything similar.

He doesn't even make clear that Jane Porter did evolve over time into a more capable adventuress, suggesting he's trying to omit quite a few times where we could give more credit to Burroughs than he's willing to.

And what if Tarzan's tales were set in a fictionalized African country rather than a real one? You can't really complain then, since that would help alleviate the potential implausibilities posed by the real life modern world that built up some rural parts of Africa over the past century. Don't take anything Mr. Smith say about not wanting to tear down Tarzan off the branch at face value.

But Burroughs was a man of his time. And his time was a century ago. The first Tarzan story was published in "All-Story" magazine in 1912, before either world war -- a time almost unimaginable from the perspective of today.

And Mr. Smith is a propagandist of today, more concerned about alleged biases by flawed but otherwise decent authors than about the most pressing current issues like terrorism and even anti-white racism.

To be clear: This was a time when phrases like "white man's burden," "Manifest Destiny" and "a credit to your race" were used without irony. The entirely imaginary "Yellow Peril" was frightening enough to white men that the U.S. instituted immigration quotas from Asia, and "Buck Rogers" began in a dystopia future with whites conquered by Asians. Jim and Jane Crow were quite healthy across the country, especially in the states of the old Confederacy. As to women, they didn't yet have the right to vote, and were expected to have lots of children, be homemakers and do what their husbands told them to do.

Given all that, Tarzan was practically progressive!

Something Mr. Smith happens to be, in a negative sense. Today you've got "liberation theology" in the form of Jeremiah Wright, Obama's former neighborhood pastor, and the hypocritical, vicious rhetoric of the Black Lives Matter movement, which isn't really concerned for Black Americans at all, and is more hell-bent on harming whites. There's also racism committed by Islamofascists to consider, but does he ever complain about that? Far from it, I'm afraid, so I'm not sure why he's supposedly concerned here.

Now, however, it's 2016. The flaws that alarmed the Li'l Capn decades ago have only gotten more glaring over time.

Trouble is, he doesn't want to notice any of them if they're performed by a modern leftist. He's a man who won't see the forest for the trees.

The movie is taking an easy way out by setting the movie in the early part of the 20th century, when many of the problems listed above were not yet considered problems. (We know this, because "Legend of Tarzan" takes place mostly in the "Free State of Congo," which was essentially a Belgian colony until it ceased to exist in 1908.) And I have no doubt that 21st century environmentalism and racial/sexual sensibilities will be evident in the writing, because that's almost unavoidable.

I further have no doubt that when I settle into my seat at the theater to watch "Legend of Tarzan" -- and I will -- that I will thoroughly enjoy myself. My inner 12 year old has been waiting for "Avengers"-level special effects to be applied to my other childhood favorites for a long time. (Here's hoping modern versions of "King Kong" and the classic Universal monsters aren't far behind.)

But as we all plod into an unknown future, we need to update our myths and legends so that they keep step with us. I don't want to put Tarzan away with other childish things, so future filmmakers, TV producers, comic book writers and prose editors must be mindful of which parts of Tarzan still work, and which don't.

And the latter -- the racism, the sexism, the slaughter of animals -- are the childish things that need to be put away. The rest we can keep. Because as we step into that unknown future, it will be comforting to have Tarzan walking beside us.

And Mr. Smith's long taken the easy ways out himself, after he praised Identity Crisis in 2004, its crude, offensive approach to women notwithstanding. He's never truly put away the sexism, and now that I think of it, he's pretty soft on racial issues too. As for the animals part, it's not often I read something so incredibly laughable: if the animals are violent carnivores like lions and tigers it's inevitable one would have to blast them in self-defense. To act like this is not a worry is just pushing a whole lot of touchy-feely-lefty propaganda upon the audience. Killing animals may be bad, but what about all the slaughter of innocent humans by Islamofacists? Complaining about the termination of animal life is cheap compared to that. And he has the gall to complain about childish things even as he looks the other way when it comes up in modern times.

Anyway, the movie may not have done as badly as Spielberg's movie based on Roald Dahl's overrated book, The BFG, but it wasn't the huge blockbuster it could've been either. Not that I'm complaining, because I think it's better to read the original books than watch a movie that could be stuffed to the brim with too many special effects. One sure thing, nobody should take the word of a propagandist like Mr. Smith at face value on any of this stuff, old or new.

A manifesto for women published by the Islamic State (IS) group has criticized Western attitudes to women, saying that this so-called “Western model” has failed, that a woman’s place is in the home, and that Western women’s fashions, like earrings, are the work of the devil. 

The manifesto, titled Women of the Islamic State, was shared on the Internet on January 23 by the IS group’s all-women unit, the Al-Khanssa Brigade. An English version of the manifesto was shared on February 5 by the Britain-based antiextremism think tank the Quilliam Foundation. 

It focuses on women’s daily lives and the role of women in an Islamic society and in the “caliphate” (the name given by the IS group to the areas under its control). The overarching message of the manifesto is that women should be “sedentary” while men are characterized by “movement and flux.” 

Earrings and hair “shaved in some places and not others” are the Devil’s work The Islamic State’s manifesto on women also covers the important issue of women’s fashion which, unsurprisingly, it condemns as the work of “Iblis” or the devil. 

The manifesto conflates jewelry such as earrings with plastic surgery, claiming that the devil encourages vulnerable women to “spend huge amounts of money to change God’s creation” including via surgery to alter “the nose, ear, chin and nails.” 

The devil, according to the manifesto, preys on women in “fashion shops and beauty salons,” encouraging them to have “things dangling from ears” and “hair shaved in some places and not others.”

Muslim Vs. Hindu Honor Killings

Although the overwhelming majority of honor killings worldwide occur within Muslim communities, one would not know this by reading the mainstream media. Fearful of being labeled "Islamophobic," the American press has given only glancing attention to the widespread, honor-related ritual murder of Muslim women in the Middle East and South Asia while treating periodic honor killings among Muslim immigrants in the West as ordinary domestic abuse cases.

Over the last few years, however, the media has published a flurry of articles about Hindu honor killings in India, the only non-Muslim-majority country where these murders are still rampant.  Apologists for Muslim culture and civilization rushed to herald the upsurge in Hindu (and Sikh) honor killings as evidence that the practice is "a universal problem, not an Islamic issue."

While India is indeed a striking exception to Islam's near monopoly on contemporary honor killings, the following preliminary statistical survey shows Hindu honor killings in India to be different in form and commission from those of Muslims in neighboring Pakistan. Though no less gruesome, the Hindu honor killings seem largely confined to the north of India and are perpetuated by sociocultural factors largely specific to India. The millions of Indian Hindus who have immigrated to the West do not bring the practice along with them.

The recent spike of honor killings in India is likely the product of a clash between traditional and modern values, intensified by high economic growth and increasing social mobility. The spike may also reflect growing media coverage of this crime. The democratically elected government of India has taken important, if long overdue, steps to combat the practice of honor killing, and some progress has been made.

Not so in Pakistan where officials at all levels of government are either unable or unwilling to cope with honor killings. For Pakistan and many other Muslim countries, which have yet to experience the social stresses of rapid modernization or build the kind of political institutions that can eradicate a practice so deeply rooted in traditional beliefs—especially as Islamists now dominate—the worst may be yet to come....

The other day, a pediatric nurse in New York City refused to dance with Mbarek Lafrem, a Moroccan man, in a New York City bar. What did Lafrem do? He followed her into the women’s bathroom where he attempted to rape and savagely beat her. The woman was found unconscious and is now hospitalized.

The media pointedly refrain from telling us that he is a Muslim, but with a name like “Mbarek” or ‘Mubarak,” what religion are we talking about? Lafrem now claims that she started it, that the nurse “berated him when he barged into the women’s restroom shortly after she’d rebuffed him on the dance floor.”

A father shut his 23-year-old daughter down in an obscure room during one and a half year, offering her little food and drink, and tortured her to death in a clear case of honor crime, according to Egyptian daily ‘Al Ahram’.

The 55-year-old man had heard rumours about his daughter’s behaviour: she had a relationship with a boy who she was supposedly to marry with.

Her father’s relatives, from Egyptian city of Miniya, south Egypt, were offended by the bad fame she had and menaced the father not to let him enter the city if he didn’t kill her daughter. The man, who worked as a porter in a building of Old Cairo, told the police that he chained and tortured his daughter to kill her and send her corpse to his family in Miniya to beg for their forgiveness. The murderer’s neighbours told the police about the crime before he could flee with the corpse.

The family is as responsible for this murder as the murderer himself.

CBS Covers The Recent Beheading In Buffalo

I hadn't even finished my first cup of coffee this morning when a discussion of this story came onto the television screen, courtesy of CBS Morning News.

One person interviewed - I believe that she was a supporter of women's rights - stated that using the defense of "cultural differences" will backfire because America doesn't any ideology promoting such violence against women.

A crack in the media's whitewash of Islam? Maybe.

Of course, the story was truncated and didn't address the concerns it should have.

The story of last week's beheading in Buffalo was also covered last night on the NBC Nightly News, though not coming nearly as close to condemning shari'a law and its Islamic origins.

The crisis, with children as young as 11 having been sent abroad to be married, has prompted the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to call on British consular staff in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan to take more action to identify and help British citizens believed to be the victims of forced marriages in recent years.
