Borders Books Closing is a Good Thing

kowtowFrom Planck's Constant:

Four years ago I suggested it would be a good thing if Borders closed down and all of its employees laid off and sent home because Borders' act of appeasement would only embolden Muslims to intimidate other book stores and retail outlets.

Comment regarding the sidebar quote of the week -

You just re-quoted Pope Bennedict quoting that other Pope that must not be re-quoted. Very bad.

Wah!

You got that?. WAH!

Now don't make me have to say it again 'cause the next time it'll really be a big fat "wah!".

NO IT'S NOT A GOOD THING

Border's, which has a GIGANTIC store in Bangor Maine, is the ONLY ONE IN TOWN.

It is a gathering spot. Coffee, music, reading for kids, and no matter what you want to say corporately, the Quran and Hadith show up where ever they show up on the shelves, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER BOOK.

B&N has been totally uninterested, closing their mall store when Border's opened.

BTW, I also have found magazine reference and reproduction of the cartoons there.

You bring up a good point, Epa. Those of us who live in places like Los Angeles are spoiled. In my area there are Borders and Barnes and Nobles galore. Even with the closures, my life will not really be affected.

Having said that, I have not bought a book at Borders since the Reason Magazine thing. And, as I have stated here before, I used to spend several thousand dollars a year there.

They lost me.

I'll miss our local Borders. Though they had a completely one-sided view of islam in their religion section, I did have an awful lot of fun placing pork barbecue cook books in with the korans.
