NJ Rep. Leonard Lance: Janet Napolitano Must Explain Bullet Stockpile and Armored Vehicle Purchases

THE OTHER DAY IT CAME OUT THAT SIG SAUER HAS WON A "NO-BID" GOVERNMENT CONTRACT TO PROVIDE EVEN MORE AMMUNITION AND SPARE PARTS TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY.

IN MY OPINION, COMPANIES LIKE SIG SAUER AND ATK ARE BEHAVING IN AN UN-ETHICAL MANNER BY ARMING GOVERNMENTS FOR WAR AGAINST THEIR OWN CITIZENS.

According to one estimate, since last year the Department of Homeland Security has stockpiled more than 1.6 billion bullets, mainly .40 caliber and 9mm. DHS also reportedly purchased 2,700 Mine Resistant Armor Protected Vehicles (MRAPs) to go with their bullet stockpile.

ATK is one company that won a contract with the Department of Homeland Security to provide 450 million rounds of .40 caliber ammunition in 2012.
Last Friday, New Jersey Rep. Leonard Lance (R – 7th District) told constituents that Janet Napolitano must explain to Congress why DHS has purchased 1.6 billion bullets and 2700 armored vehicles for domestic use. The purchase of thousands of fully automatic rifles for he DHS should also be explained.

Note that these are described as “personal defense weapons”, while less lethal weapons in the hands of US citizens are described as “assault rifles”. He made this statement at the Morristown Tea Party 4th anniversary gathering, Friday, March 16th at the Whippany, NJ VFW.
