Anecdotes, Facts and Wetbacks

Otto has recently posted about how his friend’s dog was blinded by a wetback. Otto lives in Arizona were his friend, Sandy, has a ranch. Sandy is one of those Americans who have the misfortune of living on an illegal alien thoroughfare. His property has become a conduit for large numbers of illegals and he, like many others, is paying the price of being abandoned by his nation’s law enforcement agencies:

Recently, illegal aliens blinded my friend Sandy's dog. The dog, Gobbler was in his kennel on Sandy's property when it happened. The criminals sprayed pepper spray into the eyes of a helpless animal just for "kicks." The dog is now blind. This story really upsets me. Blinding a man's dog should be a hanging offense.

Otto provides a link to the Arizona Daily Star story. It gives more details on how Sandy, up till now, had maintained a state of truce with the invaders:

Sandy Schlesinger thought he had an unspoken accord with the illegal entrants who passed through his property on a nearly daily basis.

He filled their water jugs and gave them tortillas before sending them on their way and calling the Border Patrol.

The article’s headline is: “Border Crossers Appear Guilty of Blinding Dog with Pepper.” “Border crossers,” is I guess that is the new, official PC term of evasion. They used to be called wetbacks, but that was judged to harsh and even “racist.” After all Americans wouldn’t want to hurt the feelings of those who flaunt our laws and national sovereignty. So, the new term became “illegal alien.” While it was an increase to two words and four syllables to say the same thing as one word, it was still accurate.

Accuracy was still a problem for the arbiters of language. Accordingly, the new, new term became “undocumented workers.” Now we are up to seven syllables to say nothing. “Undocumented,” as if the main problem with these invaders is a paper work hang-up. While shorter, “border crossers” is even more absurd. Millions cross our southern border legally every year. The purpose of the new PC term is to evade the distinction between the law abiding and the law breaker.

On Otto’s comments I made mention of this issue:

I noticed in the article you link to yet another PC euphemism designed to conceal the truth: "border crossers." Not least among the left's many intellectual crimes is their abuse of language.

Chris O’Byrne, of The Peaceful Birder, quickly took me to task:

Interesting, Grant, that you so blithely separate the left and right by their purported abuse of language. Instead of blasting you for such an over-simplification, let me simply ask you this: do you have any statistical evidence supporting your statement? Is not this abuse more an individual trait, instead of a political trait?

Hmmm…where to begin with the above? I, not so blithely, separate the left and right based on their different ideas. What I find interesting is those who dismiss uncongenial facts as “anecdotes.” I will also note that statistics, while valuable, is not the foundation of induction. Once one has enough data points, there is justification to come to general conclusion. In this case the left’s politically correct abuse of language. I single out the left because with their dominance of the mainstream media, academia and the prestige press, they have the power to alter language to conform with their agenda.

No, I haven’t conducted a statistical survey to support my viewpoint, nor do I have to. This demand by Chris is just an attempt to prevent discussion on an important issue. There are many examples of the phenomenon.

George Orwell wrote about the adulteration of language for political purposes sixty years ago with his essay “Politics and the English Language:”

It is rather the same thing that is happening to the English language. It becomes ugly and inaccurate because out thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts. The point is that the process is reversible. Modern English, especially written English, is full of bad habits which spread by imitation and which can be avoided if one is willing to take the necessary trouble.

In this essay Orwell was not specifically writing about mendacious words driving out truthful ones. Of course, he saved that issue for his essay on “Newspeak.”

Moving forward to our own time, one of the most egregious examples of a euphemism being used to muddy the intellectual waters is the term “Native American.” To even say the word “Indian” on an American college campus is to identify oneself as a doublepluscrimethinker. I seriously doubt if a scholar could get a peer review essay published in an academic journal or a book published by an academic press without using the new terminology. Never mind that the American Indian Movement refuses to change its name and its leader, Russell Means, “abhors” the new term, or that their reasons are incontrovertible. The PC language police will enforce their edicts wherever they can get away with it.

There are even books, and many chapters of books, on the proper use of academic left Newspeak. Edward Cline wrote a brilliant analysis on this ten years ago, “The Ghouls of Grammatical Egalitarianism:”

A small, innocuous-looking book appeared in bookstores recently, published under the auspices of the Association of American University Presses (AAUP), an organization which claims to be devoted to the dissemination of knowledge and scholarly research. Its title is Guidelines for Bias-Free Writing, by Marilyn Schwartz and the Task Force on Bias-Free Language (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1995). It is little more than 100 pages long, weighs less than a pound, yet its contents are more potent than the Oklahoma City bomb. Its ingredients are politically correct jargon, multiculturalism, and the phenomenon of what may be called "grammatical egalitarianism.

The PC Newspeak is not limited to the United States. Australian historian Keith Windschuttle recently wrote on this topic of “Language Wars.” Windschuttle focuses on how, and why, “gender” replaced the perfectly serviceable word “sex” in political correct argot:

Gender is a term that reeks of the sexual politics of the Seventies. It made its first appearance when gay activists began to demand that homosexuality be not merely tolerated but given equal standing with heterosexuality in all things. It was reinforced by feminists who wanted to eliminate the differences between men and women.

These activists had to face the fact that sexual differences are grounded in biology. They are determined at conception by the distribution of X and Y chromosomes and cannot be altered, no matter what identity a person assumes, how many hormones someone ingests, or whatever surgery is performed. Moreover, the biology of sexual difference has no place for homosexual activities. Indeed, it implies they are unnatural.

Clearly, that won’t do. Sex may remind some that humans are sexual mammals and that not everything under the sun is up to individual caprice.

I’ll close with a quote from Less Than Words Can Say by Richard Mitchell, the Underground Grammarian. I doubt if he is a favorite of the language cops:

Words never fail. We hear them, we read them; they enter into the mind and become part of us for as long as we shall live. Who speaks reason to his fellow men bestows it upon them. Who mouths inanity disorders thought for all who listen. There must be some minimum allowable dose of inanity beyond which the mind cannot remain reasonable. Irrationality, like buried chemical waste, sooner or later must seep into all the tissues of thought.

Update, 6/9: I almost forgot Daniel Pipes list of twenty euphemism for the terrorist killers of Beslan, "Beslan Atrocity: They're Terrorists - Not Activists." Pipes list is from the international media, the refusal to call things by their proper names is a worldwide problem.

Dutch Say Islam Is Incompatible With Modern Europe

A new poll shows the Dutch citizenry gets it. 63% say Islam is incompatible with modern Europe. Check out this report from polling firm, Angus-Reid Consultants:

Many adults in the Netherlands hold strong views on the way Muslims adapt to the European continent, according to a poll by Motivaction released by GPD. 63 per cent of respondents believe think Islam is incompatible with modern European life.

In September 2004, Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders quit the liberal People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Wilders criticized Muslims in the Netherlands for failing to properly integrate to society, and openly opposed Turkey’s accession to the European Union (EU).

In November 2004, controversial filmmaker Theo Van Gogh was murdered. Van Gogh directed a short motion picture that depicts a husband’s abuse on a Muslim woman. Death threats to Wilders and other former VVD members were left at the crime scene.

On May 15, Dutch officials revealed that Somali-born VVD lawmaker Hirsi Ali provided false information when she applied for refugee status, and then when she sought citizenship. The next day, the lawmaker announced that she would leave the Second Chamber immediately. Hirsi Ali confirmed that she intends to move to the United States and work at the American Enterprise Institute.

You catch that? Hirsi Ali's "lying" to gain Dutch citizenship is being equated with Holland's real problems with Islam, including the brutal murder of Theo Van Gogh.

Angus-Reid appears to not like the results they got from there poll, wouldn't you say?

It appears they are trying to spin the results so that the perception is that ignorance is the reason for the opinion of the Dutch citizenry.

British Arrest Two Terror Suspects At Heathrow

The first suspect is an American citizen:

An American citizen who once lived in New York was indicted yesterday on charges of conspiring to send money and military gear to associates of Al Qaeda to use against United States forces in Afghanistan, federal prosecutors said.

The defendant, Syed Hashmi, 26, was arrested at Heathrow Airport in London on Tuesday night as he was trying to board a flight to Pakistan, according to the United States attorney's office in Manhattan. Prosecutors said he was carrying a large amount of cash. He was jailed pending extradition proceedings.

The conspiracy alleged in the indictment was based in London, law enforcement officials said, but Mr. Hashmi, who had been living in England for two and half years, was charged in the United States because he is an American citizen. He was born in Pakistan and came to the United States as a child, officials said.

One law enforcement official said the arrest of Mr. Hashmi reinforced investigators' belief that New York was a link in a web of worldwide terrorist activity.

Hashmi belonged to a now-defunct London-based group, Al Muhajiroun, which was active in New York according to the NYT and explicitly praised the 9/11 attack.

The other suspect has not been named:

BRITON said to be a key figure in an alleged plot to bomb public buildings in Canada, including the Parliament, was arrested by counter-terrorist police as he stepped off a plane at Manchester airport.

The 21-year-old man had arrived from Canada, where security services claimed that he had been living alongside some of the 17 terror suspects arrested in Toronto at the weekend in one of the biggest operations in North America. Hours later police in West Yorkshire arrested a 16-year-old youth after documents and mobile phone records seized in Canada revealed a British link to the alleged gang of Muslim militants operating from their homes in the Toronto suburbs. ...

The suspect was born in Pakistan but is believed to have British citizenship and lived at a number of addresses in Dewsbury, the home town of Mohammad Sidique Khan, the leader of the July 7 suicide bombers. He is understood to have spent much of this year living in Toronto.
“This is an example of the extremist soup we have in this country with lots of overlapping links,” a security source said.

The arrest of the 16-year-old in West Yorkshire resulted in a careful search of the premises, with police shutting down the street. It reminded residents of the aftermath of the July 7 bombings, when police did much the same thing while searching the house of July 7 mastermind Mohammad Sidique Khan, who lived in the same area. The teenager had connections to the man arrested at the airport by British investigators alerted to his presence by Canadian authorities. They identified him as a member of the Toronto cell, but could not catch him before he left the country.

Swiss Thwart Muslim Plot To Down El Al Plane

There isn't much information on this yet, but, Drudge has the scoop:

Swiss thwart plot to attack El Al plane
Thu Jun 08 2006 10:39:35 ET

Swiss justice authorities said Thursday that they had thwarted a plot by a group of North Africans to attack a plane of the Israeli airline El Al, and had made seven arrests in the process...

MORE...The Federal Prosecutor's Office said the individuals had been seized in sweeps which began on May 12 in Zurich and Basel, AFP reports, following an investigation which had shown that their cell had 'very seriously considered' attacking the Israeli carrier in Switzerland.

Iranian Campaign against Neo-Nazis: You Go Guys!

News from Germany:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This is from the weblog named Iranian Campaign against NPD, which is, as its name does not suggest, in Farsi and German language only. It was set up by a group of Iranian students in Germany and Iran who are protesting against the announced public "solidarity campaigns" of the extremist rightwing party NPD (Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands / Nationaldemocratic Party of Germany) for the Iranian team at the impending FIFA World Cup in Germany. I found it important enough to translate and publish to my English speaking audience.

To read the open letters to the NPD representatives and the Iranian ambassador in Germany go to my blog.

It ought not to be forgotten, and certainly neither by those Germans from the Left who are taking advantage of the NPD action by staging a cheap but politically correct protest and even more not by those who are gushingly celebrating the achievements of the Iranian society that writing such a letter may make the signees end up swinging at the top of a crane.

Is he finally DEAD??

UPDATE: He is not merely dead. He is most sincerely dead.

Even Al Qaeda is admitting it.

IF SO, this is the best news for Iraqis and for all of us.

Facing Reality Face-to-Face

I was searching for a line from Rilke's novel when I came across this:

Shakespeare's King Henry IV, Part II, where the former prince has shed his profligate lifestyle to become King Henry V. Visited by his erstwhile drinking companion, Falstaff, the new and mature king says:

Presume not that I am the thing I was;
For God doth know, so shall the world perceive,
That I have turned away my former self (V,v).

President Bush Does the Right Thing

The Bush administration has just come out in opposition to the Akaka Bill. This development can also be viewed as a long overdue political whack upside Governor Linda Lingle's (RINO) head. Hawaii Reporter has posted a letter from William E. Moschella, Assistant Attorney General, to the lamest of ducks, Bill Frist:

Dear Mr. Leader:

The Administration strongly opposes passage of S. 147. As noted recently by the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, this bill risks "further subdivid[ing] the American people into discrete subgroups accorded varying degrees of privilege." As the President has said, "we must ... honor the great American tradition of the melting pot, which has made us one nation out of many peoples." This bill would reverse that great American tradition and divide people by their race. Closely related to that policy concern, this bill raises the serious threshold constitutional issues that arise anytime legislation seeks to separate American citizens into race-related classifications rather than "according to [their] own merit[s] and essential qualities." Indeed, in the particular context of native Hawaiians, the Supreme Court and lower Federal courts have invalidated state legislation containing similar race-based qualifications for participation in government entities and programs.

While this legislation seeks to address this issue by affording federal tribal recognition to native Hawaiians, the Supreme Court has noted that whether native Hawaiians are eligible for tribal status is a "matter of dispute" and "of considerable moment and difficulty." Given the substantial historical, structural and cultural differences between native Hawaiians as a group and recognized federal Indian tribes, tribal recognition is inappropriate for native Hawaiians and would still raise difficult constitutional issues.

I hope this means that if, in its infinite stupidity, Congress passes this turd of a bill, the President will veto it. I also hope Lingle will enjoy being Hawaii's Christine Todd Whitman.

Straight From the Horse's Mouth: Islam Is Fascism

If I were to say Islam, itself, is Fascist, I would be accused of being a bigot. But, if leaders of major Islamic nations and organizations say it, perhaps, we ought to listen

Here, from Jihad Watch, we are told that there is no room for Freedom in Islam:

Despite the insistent pleas of some apologetic sections of the Muslim community and their distorted claims that Islam ‘represents freedom’ and ‘tolerance’. The fact of the matter is that there is no room for freedom in Islam whatsoever, in fact Islam calls for the complete opposite, and end of all freedoms and the enslaving of all people to their lord.

Click here to read the rest.

And, then there's this, from the Ayatollah Khomeini:

Islam’s jihad is a struggle against idolatry, sexual deviation, plunder, repression, and cruelty. The war waged by [non-Islamic] conquerors, however, aims at promoting lust and animal pleasures. They care not if whole countries are wiped out and many families left homeless. But those who study jihad will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world. All the countries conquered by Islam or to be conquered in the future will be marked for everlasting salvation. For they shall live under [God’s law]. ...

Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all!

Islam says: Kill the [the non-Muslims], put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]. Does this mean sitting back until [non-Muslims] overcome us? Islam says: Kill in the service of Allah those who may want to kill you! Does this mean that we should surrender [to the enemy]? Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword!

The sword is the key to paradise, which can be opened only for holy warriors! There are hundreds of other [Koranic] psalms and hadiths [sayings of the prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all that mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.

The Sacred Blood Rituals Of The Mujahideen

From TruePeers at the Covenant Zone:

Mujahideen fighting the coalition forces in Iraq have revived a long tradition of blood rituals, particularly Quranic verses that beckon holy warriors to smite the necks of unbelievers. The modern version of this mujahideen blood ritual is choreographed and videotaped. These videotaped beheadings are not just a form of psychological warfare but a method of validating the ideal that they are in the same war that the prophet and the first Muslims were fighting.

Beheadings in the Al Qaeda network videos meet all the criteria to be designated ritualistic crimes ...

The mujahideen are not beheading victims as offerings to Allah; they are ritually murdering the enemies and apostates of Allah to preserve Islam as theologically proscribed in the Quran. The Mujahideen are not creating a cult of human sacrifice; they are returning to a pure form of Islam, as they consistently claim.

The very fact that these executions are ritualized and that the executioners praise Allah throughout is what distinguishes them from common acts of barbarism. There would be no honor in simply cutting off someone’s head for the sake of terrorizing your enemies; the ritual characteristics have to be present to be theologically and communally sanctioned. To situate this in the realm of the sacred as opposed to a mob killing it is ritually required that each person participate in the religious ritual, hence, the communal chanting of Allah Akbar while the victim is being beheaded.

Jihadists consistently claim that they are traditionalists who restrict themselves to literal and traditional interpretations of their sacred texts. The media have perpetuated an erroneous idea that Islamic terrorists have corrupted the peaceful religion of Islam, when in fact it is moderate Muslims who have altered the religion and actually practice a Westernized, watered-down version of Islam.

Acknowledging the documented history of the Islamic religion should not be viewed as an insult to Modern Muslims or deemed slanderous of contemporary Islam. Every major religion has evolved and adapted to new technologies and cultural changes. The danger occurs when revisionist history promotes a fallacy that denies the violent origins of the Islamic faith and undermines the public’s perception of the seriousness of the threat.

These holy warriors are willingly blowing themselves up because they have faith. As a consequence of our Western view of the world and standard behavioral science analysis of crime, we fail to see the nature of these true believers.

Al-Qaeda has already won the most important strategic battle; they know their enemy, but we are in denial of their religious imperative to annihilate us. Our worst opponent is not the Mujahideen, it is our refusal to acknowledge that we are fighting soldiers of God in a centuries-old holy war.

25 Years Ago Today

Another daring raid, even by Israeli standards

Osirak was a French-built 40 MW light-water nuclear materials testing reactor (MTR) in Iraq. It was constructed by the Iraqi government at the Al Tuwaitha Nuclear Research Centre, 18 km south-east of Baghdad in 1977. It was crippled by Israeli aircraft on June 7th 1981 in a preventive strike to stop the Saddam Hussein regime using the reactor to produce plutonium for nuclear weapons.

On June 7, 1981, fourteen F-15s and F-16s flew off the runway of Etzion Air Force base in the Negev, flying over Jordanian, Saudi, and Iraqi airspace, to attack the Iraqi nuclear reactor.

The attack was, of course, universally criticized. The United States voted for a Security Council resolution condemning Israel and, as a punishment, delayed a shipment of aircraft to Israel that had already been authorized.

The destruction of the reactor helped numerous countries besides Israel. Had Iraq obtained nuclear weapons they might have been able to achieve regional hegemony. Ten years after the attack, the American government noted this. In June 1991, during a visit to Israel after the Gulf War, then-Defense Secretary Richard Cheney gave Major General David Ivri, then commander of the Israeli Air Force, a satellite photograph of the destroyed reactor. On the photograph, Cheney wrote, "For General David Ivri, with thanks and appreciation for the outstanding job he did on the Iraqi Nuclear Program in 1981, which made our job much easier in Desert Storm."

Professor Louis Rene Beres wrote that, "Israel’s citizens, together with Jews and Arabs, American, and other coalition soldiers who fought in the Gulf War may owe their lives to Israel’s courage, skill, and foresight in June 1981. Had it not been for the brilliant raid at Osirak, Saddam’s forces might have been equipped with atomic warheads in 1991. Ironically, the Saudis, too, are in Jerusalem’s debt. Had it not been for Prime Minister Menachem Begin’s resolve to protect the Israeli people in 1981, Iraq’s SCUDs falling on Saudi Arabia might have spawned immense casualties and lethal irradiation."

According to Yitzhak Shamir, "Deterrence was not attained by other countries – France and Italy – and even the United States. It was attained by the State of Israel and its Prime Minster who decided, acted and created a fact that no one in the world today – with the exception of our enemies – regrets."

As part of a series marking 25 years since Israel bombed Iraq's Osirak nuclear reactor, BBC News has interviewed four of the F-16 pilots involved:
Had mission commander Col Zeev Raz's risk assessment been proven right, one pilot would have ejected over Baghdad and another would have been waiting out in the desert for helicopters to rescue him in the night.

Yet the loss of two planes would have been a price worth paying in the eyes of the pilots of the eight F-16s and their two F-15 escorts: several believed they were averting nothing less than a new Holocaust of the Jews.

"No-one thought that all eight F-16s would return, no-one," the retired colonel says.

"We were really amazed that all of us landed back safely without a scratch."

Col Raz is the most vocal of the surviving pilots. For personal security reasons, three of them - Pilots A, B and C - would only talk to the BBC on condition of anonymity.
[...]
Osirak posed a formidable challenge: to fly a round trip of some 2,000km (1,200 miles) over hostile territory in new jets laden with bombs and extra fuel tanks.

The US-made single-seat F-16s had been in service for only a couple of years with the Americans, and had arrived in Israel less than a year before, though the pilots had been in training earlier in Utah.

"None of us had flown more than 100 missions in an F-16, which is not a lot, and the whole plane was completely new, its limitations were not completely clear, we were still learning," says Pilot A.

Pilot B was anxious about the runway at Etzion, Israel's Sinai Desert air base, which has since been returned to Egypt.

"I was very concerned whether the runway at that altitude would be sufficient for a take-off at our weight," he recalls.

In the event, all eight F-16s got away safely along with their escorts, rising into a clear sky just before 1600 (1300 GMT).

"After you take off, you have to pinch yourself and say 'Hey, it's the real thing' because riding there it's basically 90 minutes of navigation with not a lot of activity and it's like in training," says Pilot A.

Flying in unchallenged, Pilot C remembers his first glimpse of the reactor. "It glistened with the sun shining from the low west," he says.

This was despite the dome having been covered in mud by the Iraqis, rattled by a small-scale Iranian air attack the previous autumn.

Col Raz remembers the view from the cockpit as his F-16 climbed for the bombing run: "We could look right and see Baghdad and look left and see the reactor."

Within a minute, all eight planes had dropped their twin bombs on Osirak. Only two failed to explode.

Once the bombs were released, Pilot C recalls, his only thought was "jinking the AAA [anti-aircraft artillery] and getting to low level".

With their lack of fuel ruling out dogfights, the pilots' greatest concern was the flight home.

When they touched down at Etzion, each had at most 450kg (1,000 pounds) of fuel left.

Col Raz recalls relief, happiness and "some hugs" back on the ground but the celebrations had to wait until the pilots got back to their home base in Israel.

"Even then we didn't have much time to celebrate because we were flown on a small cargo plane to Tel Aviv to debrief with the generals," he says.

"It had gone just like in planning and therefore there was not a lot to say at the debriefing," Pilot A adds.

One of those Osirak pilot, however, who couldn't be interviewed by BBC News anymore, had become world-famous as Israel's first astronaut.

IAF Colonel Ilan Ramon, born June 20, 1954 in Ramat Gan Israel, died February 1, 2003 over the southern United States when Space Shuttle Columbia and her crew perished during entry, 16 minutes prior to scheduled landing.

In 1981, Ilan Ramon was the youngest of the pilots who flew the F-16 jets that blew up the Osirak nuclear reactor.

We owe them much.

Latest Peaceful Palestinian Poll: 4% oppose terror!

A recent poll released by Bir-Zeit University:
19. As to funding the Palestinian National Authority, which one of these two directions do you support?
1) Hamas continues to reject recognizing Israel, while reaching out to countries like Iran and the Arab world to get funding
60.8%
2) Hamas recognizes Israel and continue to receive funding from the international community
31.0%
Do you support the following statement:
37. Commitment to resistance with a focus in the occupied territories.

1) Yes
83.4%
2) To some extent 12.6%
3) No
4%
42. Do you support or oppose that the (Prisoners’ Declaration) be the basis for a national unity program?

1) Support
81.1%
2) Oppose
13.0%

Now, one might be surprised that the same people who do not want to recognize Israel in question 19 overwhelmingly support the "prisoners' declaration" which the media has portrayed as "implicitly" recognizing Israel in question 42.

The answer is obvious - nowhere does the "prisoner's declaration" recognize Israel except in the fevered minds of wire service reporters. As has been very well documented by Honest Reporting and Israel Matzav, the entire initiative is a smokescreen that the wishful thinkers of the West are more than happy to pretend is a breakthrough.

The poll result that will not make the mainstream media at all is the fact that only 4% of Palestinian Arabs reject terror altogether. The question is ambiguously worded, but what is entirely clear is that the vast majority of Palestinian Arabs want to see continued attacks against Jewish civilians (what is euphemistically called "resistance.")

Good News Out Of Syria

The Syrian Government is leading a campaign against Honor Killings:

The September 2005 murder of a young Druze woman, Huda Abu 'Asali, by members of her family because of her marriage to a man outside of her ethnic group, sparked a wave of outraged reaction throughout Syria against the phenomenon of "honor killings" of women by their male relatives. The independent Syrian website "Syrian Women" (www.nesasy.com ) launched a sweeping campaign, under the slogan "Stop the Murder of Women, Stop the 'Honor Crimes!'" [1] and posted numerous articles by Syrian Muslim and Christian clerics as well as by attorneys, intellectuals, and ordinary citizens. As part of the campaign, the site posted a petition calling for a stop to honor killings. To date, nearly 10,000 people have signed this petition, most of them from Syria.

The main goal of the campaign is the amendment of Articles 548, 239, 240, 241, and 242 of the Syrian penal code, which grant immunity or a significantly reduced sentence to a man who murders a female relative. [2]

A few months later the Syrian government press joined the campaign. The Syrian daily Teshreen published several harsh articles stating that honor killings were the product of "historical backwardness" and calling for changes in both the Syrian penal code and the school curricula. The Syrian government daily Al-Thawra published a special investigation of honor killings, which found that over 40 honor killings took place every year in Syria. The investigation also included comments by Syrian attorneys and clerics, who said that murder is forbidden by all religions and that the articles of the penal code permitting those guilty of murdering women to evade just punishment must be abolished.

UCI Muslim Student Union: "Your Days Are Numbered" - FBI Says Nothing To Worry About

Click here and watch the video of UCI Muslim Student Union-sponsored speaker Amir Abdel Malik Ali, and then come back and read this:

IRVINE – The FBI and Muslim community leaders met again Monday night, one in a series of gatherings since 9/11 intended to promote a better understanding of each other.

The latest meeting was needed, Muslim leaders said, because of a report by Register columnist Frank Mickadeit last month in which Pat Rose, head of the FBI’s Orange County al-Qaida squad, was quoted as saying her agency was looking for potential terrorists here through a variety of electronic eavesdropping techniques.

Rose said the FBI is aware of large numbers of Muslims at UC Irvine and USC. And she said she was “quite surprised” that “there are a lot of individuals of interest right here in Orange County.”

Stephen Tidwell, assistant director in charge of the FBI in Los Angeles, told about 100 people gathered at the Islamic Center of Irvine, that “we do not, we cannot, we do not” monitor students at UC Irvine and USC. ...

He answered no when asked whether the FBI is monitoring Irvine’s Muslim community and said, “We would have to have reasonable cause to do that.”

Apparently, threatening the existence of Western Civilization does not count as reasonable cause.

Yvonne Ridley Urges Muslims to Stop Co-operating with Police

An activist from the Respect Party has urged Muslims in east London to stop co-operating with police.

Yvonne Ridley, who became a Muslim after her kidnap by the Taleban in Afghanistan five years ago, has accused the police of being heavy-handed.

She told a meeting of the Newham branch of the Respect Party that Muslims should "boycott" the Met Police.

She said: "From today until this terrorisation of the Muslim community is stopped immediately, I believe all Muslims should withdraw their support," she said.

"This goes from asking the community copper for directions to passing the time of day with a beat officer.

"We should enforce non-co-operation."

Speaking on Wednesday morning, Ms Ridley defended her comments.

"I called for zero tolerance with the Metropolitan Police, the force which has demonstrated time and time again its Islamophobic attitudes," she told BBC News.

She has previously stated that "there is something rather repugnant about those who rush to renounce acts of terrorism"

Unbefuckingbelievable. BBC News
