There are some stark days ahead for the United States of America in its efforts to stop the Islamic Republic of Iran from developing nuclear weapons. There is an intrinsic need to deal with Iran, which is in the process of building nuclear reactors and enriching uranium that it says would be used for its energy needs. Now, we see that this nation has been thrust upon the world stage and is at the center of international debate regarding its nuclear ambitions. Therefore, it is only logical that we should take a look at whether this fanatical, Shiite state should be allowed to possess such technology. Does a land that is sitting on a sea of oil really have energy needs that could not be met by its massive reserve of crude? Would it be wise to trust the nation that launched the present wave of terror in 1979 and which continues to sweep through the world. Preparations for war are simply the only things to do if Iran is allowed to become a nuclear power. Can we continue to work closely with any nation, such as Russia, that would help Iran achieve this goal? These are questions that must be answered.

Iran expects 'different approach' from next US leader: Ahmadenijad

Iran expects a "different approach" from the next US president, whoever wins the November elections, President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad said in an interview published in Italy Wednesday.

"Whoever wins the elections, I'm sure that the United States will change, it will have a different approach," the Iranian leader told the Italian daily La Repubblica.

the US intervention in Iraq, which involved "slightly higher risks" than the invasion of Afghanistan, was the very last of its kind. And even then, the US went into Iraq because of President George W Bush's "readiness to do what no other American leader would dare contemplate." Hassan Abbasi

In addition, the United States "will have to withdraw the soldiers from Iraq (since) the American people will not tolerate continued spending of billions of dollars on weapons," said Ahmadenijad, in Rome to attend the UN food agency's summit on food security.

Asked whether he would negotiate with the new US leadership come January 2009, Ahmadenijad said: "It is they who cut off the links with us, hoping to suffocate us. Today Iran is an advanced country. We are ready for dialogue with anyone, except with the Zionist regime, in relations based on mutual respect and fairness."

Maclean's faces the B. C. Human Rights Tribunal

VANCOUVER -In the subterranean bowels of a provincial courthouse, a bizarre and frightening spectacle starts to unfold.

At issue are the pointed musings of Mark Steyn, a journalist and author living in the United States. A lengthy excerpt from his controversial book, America Alone, was published two years ago in Toronto-based Maclean's magazine, a weekly publication owned by Toronto-based Roger's Publishing Ltd.

The book excerpt ran as a cover story, entitled "Why the Future Belongs to Islam," and argued that Western democracy is threatened by the spread of Islam. In response, a human rights complaint was made here, in British Columbia, by an electrical engineer living in Waterloo, Ont.

That's the bizarre part, or one slice of it. None of the main players starring in this quasi-judicial drama actually live or work in B. C. Not Mr. Steyn, not the editors responsible for Maclean's, and not Mohamed Elmasry, a Muslim who launched a complaint to the B. C. Human Rights Tribunal on behalf of all Muslims in this province.

Neither Mr. Steyn, nor his editors, nor Mr. Elmasry were in sight when the tribunal panel began the week-long hearing yesterday. Mr. Steyn will not testify, say lawyers for Maclean's. Nor will Mr. Elmasry, the aggrieved. So why bring the complaint forward here?

Because Mr. Elmasry can.

This thanks to provincial human rights legislation of a breadth and elasticity not known in other parts of Canada.

Mr. Elmasry, the president of the Canadian Islamic Congress, and a highly controversial figure himself -- especially among Jewish groups -- claims the Steyn excerpt denigrated and vilified Canadian Muslims and promoted hatred of an identifiable group.

He is not obliged to demonstrate what harm occurred to whom, or to what degree. Maclean's magazine and Mr. Steyn could still be found to have violated B. C.'s Human Rights Code. No proof of damage is required.

Meanwhile, if found to have violated the code, Maclean's faces sanctions, including payment to the complainant "an amount that the member or panel considers appropriate to compensate that person for injury to dignity, feelings and self respect or to any of them."

The magazine could also be ordered to stop publishing certain ideas and points of view.

Lawyer Faisal Joseph, representing the complainant, asked the Tribunal yesterday to use its "discretion" and order Maclean's to publish a suitable response in its pages. That, or publish the panel's ultimate findings. Such are the frightening aspect of this case.

"Strict rules of evidence do not apply" in cases before the Tribunal, noted its chairwoman, Heather MacNaughton.

A lawyer and a veteran of human rights inquiries, she made the comment yesterday afternoon, when allowing an Ontario law student -- yet another non-B. C. resident -- to deliver for the complainant testimony about the "Islamaphobic" Steyn excerpt.

Over the objection of Maclean's lawyers, witness Khurrum Awan was allowed to proceed with his dire interpretation of the Steyn piece, and to discuss the harm that it allegedly caused to Muslims in B. C., where he does not reside.

Mr. Joseph knew precisely what to expect from the first witness. Mr. Awan is soon to begin work at the London, Ont., law firm where Mr. Joseph is a partner. The young protege is one third of a student research team assigned to help with this case. Mr. Steyn and others dismissively call them the Elmasry "sock puppets," by which they mean his eager stand-ins. All three law students sat at the counsel table yesterday.

Behind them sat Naiyer Habib, a local physician named in a second, virtually identical complaint against Maclean's. His appearance at least gave the affair a local flavour.

Seated in an area reserved for the respondents were a number of Roger's executives.

Packing the small gallery behind them were Mark Steyn supporters, Internet bloggers, and others opposed to limits placed on free speech.

Mr. Joseph opened with a blistering attack. The Steyn excerpt that Maclean's published in October, 2006, presented Muslims as "a violent people" who hold traditional Canadian values "in contempt," he alleged. Their religion was portrayed as "inhuman" and "violent." Even the cover image that Maclean's chose to run with the Steyn excerpt was hauled before the inquiry. The image of two Muslim women, along with the magazine's cover line, "could have been the picture of a horror cult movie," declared Mr. Joseph.

He soon swerved off topic, referring to inflammatory passages from Mr. Steyn's book that did not appear in Maclean's. He mentioned "20 other articles" that ran in Maclean's, beginning in January, 2005; these were also unkind to Muslims, he alleged, even if they were not part of his client's complaint. Mr. Joseph even slammed Maclean's for publishing letters from readers praising the magazine and Mr. Steyn.

The absent Mr. Elmasry, meanwhile, was presented as the model of restraint. He was not seeking criminal charges, Mr. Joseph noted. He was not suing for defamation.

Why not? One suspects he would have failed. Mr. Joseph suggested as much. "You are the court of last resort," he told the B. C. tribunal yesterday. "You are the only opportunity to right ? a terrible wrong to a clearly identifiable group numbering hundreds of thousands in this great country, and tens of thousands in the beautiful province of British Columbia. You are the only thing between racist, hateful, contemptuous Islamaphobic and irresponsible journalism, and law-abiding Canadian citizens."

There was no mention at that point of his pre-emptive offer to settle with Maclean's, one month before the hearing, "in exchange for Maclean's publishing a mutually acceptable response to the Steyn article from an agreed upon author."

The offer was delivered in the form of a press release. Obviously, it's no longer on the table. In any event, Maclean's would never have acquiesced; to its credit, the magazine has steadfastly refused to negotiate the control of its pages.

Instead, it has chosen the more difficult route, with the odds of success stacked against it. Mounting a defence of hate charges before the B. C. Human Rights Tribunal is virtually impossible. In this province, practising responsible journalism is not considered a defence, noted Roger McConchie, a lawyer representing Maclean's before the Tribunal.
Nor, he added, is demonstrating the truth.

Little wonder, then, that Maclean's has chosen not to call any witnesses. The hearing continues today.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. -- Fairfax County police searched the Islamic Saudi Academy's west campus last month in connection with an investigation into child abuse allegations.

A 5-year old girl told a teacher in mid-May that her father was sexually abusing her, News4's James Adams reported. Two teachers and the principal at the west campus put together a report and forwarded it to the school's director general, Adams said.

According to court documents, the school's director, Adalla Al-Shabnan, did not believe the girl's complaint.

He later told investigators that he recommended psychological counseling for the girl after meeting with her parents.

Authorities said Al-Shabnan never reported the allegations of abuse to a child protective or law enforcement agency.

Virginia law requires abuse allegations to be reported within 72 hours.

On May 23, detectives searched and seized computers, notes and records from the school's Fairfax campus.

According to court documents, Al-Shabnan directed the original report to be deleted from the school's computers.

Calls to the academy's director were not returned.

Fairfax County police declined to comment on the investigation.

No charges have been filed.

Yet.

Surely, the school's director, Al-Shabnan, is aware of the strict laws about suspected child-abuse cases reported to a school! One has to wonder if perhaps he didn't file a police report because of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors May 19 hearing about renewing the school's lease. Did the girl tell of the abuse before the hearing regarding the Islamic Saudi Academy's lease? If so, this case could get very ugly.

How does the Board of Supervisors feel now about their pro forma hearing?

Officially, the Islamic Saudi Academy's lease renews for another year on June 30.

IN ENEMY TERRITORY: MANHATTAN MASJIDS

After reading yesterday's post "Assault at a Brooklyn Mosque" on Atlas Shrugs you might think that Majid al-Taqwa is unique – that Muslims at other mosques in the New York area do not accost Jews and Christians who venture near their establishments – that they do not haul them away for interrogation by Islamists in Ninja suits – that they do not maintain constant security to safeguard against any unwelcome intrusion, let alone a small standing army headed by a convicted felon.

You might believe that what took place last Saturday when an Islamist stormed from the mosque at 1226 Bedford Street to assault a reporter for taking a picture in front of the establishment on a public sidewalk to be an extraordinary occurrence brought on by intentional provocation.

You may be convinced that the majority of the 800,000 Muslims who presently live and worship in New York do not behave in such an aggressive manner and that they welcome kafirs to the 130 mosques that have sprouted up like mushrooms within the five boroughs.

You may be convinced that the New York Police Department neglected to respond to calls from the investigative team for help to be aberrant happenstance – an insignificant gaffe caused by a failure to make the correct connection. You might even believe that the account represents gross exaggeration – yellow journalism that smacks of sheer sensationalism.

But what occurred at the Brooklyn mosque, where "moderate" imam Siraj Wahaj holds forth, takes place at Islamic centers throughout Manhattan.

After leaving Majid al-Taqwa, the team of journalists ventured into the Masjid al-Farooq Mosque at 554 Atlantic Avenue where they were prohibited from entering the building and denied the right to walk past the sentry guards. Moreover, the Islamic watchdogs at the al-Farooq Mosque also forbade the taking of pictures and demanded to know the reason for the visit.

If you fancy that al-Farooq is a place of no consequence, consider these facts: the plan for the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center was hatched here; this Brooklyn mosque housed a cell of al Qaeda and raised over $20 million for bin Laden; it has also been reported that the squalid place serves as an arsenal where members withdraw crates of weapons and boxes of ammunition and haul them to the Calverton Shooting Range on Long Island for practice in guerrilla warfare.

But as concerned citizens, you are prohibited from entering the lobby of this joint. Would you encounter the same treatment if you entered a Christian Church or Jewish synagogue? Would you come face to face with Ninja nuns or rabid rabbis? Why are these places so heavily guarded and so closely protected by practitioners of the so-called "religion of peace?" Something ain't right, but few (including the New York Police Department, FBI, and Homeland Security) are raising questions, and no one (save Pamela Geller and a few other intrepid souls) is demanding answers.

Similarly, when the same investigative team traveled to the Islamic Center of New York, an established that was built in 1988 by Kuwaiti and other Arab officials, including King Hassan II of Morocco, at a cost of $12 million, they encountered the same resistance.

A group of Islamic women in burqas became irate at the appearance of the reporters and forbade the snapping of photos from a distance of one block away from the bunker-like mosque, since such activity represented a violation of not only their privacy but also of the Islamic religion. "Pictures are forbidden by the Koran," they said.

This Islamic Center of New York also retains sentries who remain on constant guard (against what?) and who forbid all non-Muslims from setting foot within the complex. Strange to say, the Islamic Center has been constructed as a defensive bunker and bears an uncanny resemblance to the U.S. Embassy in Kenya.

When the team arrived at Muhammad Mosque #7 at 106 West 127th Street in Harlem, they were forbidden to photograph the place – which looks like a funeral home – also, from one half a block away. A group of Muslim men in bow-ties ordered the reporters to vacate the area, saying that the taking of photographs was prohibited. When asked why such measures were in force, one of the Muslims said that the mosque remains on high alert for security reasons.

Just steps from the mosque, which served as the New York headquarters of Louis Farrakhan, vendors were peddling Islamic items, including colorful keffiyehs, which they called "Taliban scarves."

By 2015, the Islamic population of the city is expected to exceed 1.5 million. But already, photos on city sidewalks are being forbidden if a mosque happens to be within sight. And already, Kafirs are being assaulted and interrogated for showing too much interest in our city's most relevant Islamic institutions. What else visitors and residents of New York City should expect over the next decade remains beyond the comprehension of this reporter.

The senator's remarks came in response to a question from Democratic Rep. Nydia Velazquez who said she believed the best way for Obama to win over key voting blocs, including Hispanics, would be for him to choose Clinton as his running mate.

"I am open to it," Clinton replied, if it would help the party's prospects in November.

Speed up bathing and save energy

TOKYO (Reuters) - Speedier family baths could help Japanese cut their burgeoning energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a government report said on Tuesday.

Japanese households consume less energy than their U.S. and European counterparts, but consumption has been sharply increasing --jumping 44 percent between 1990 and 2005 -- a big reason the environment white paper zeroed in on ways for people to save energy.

Families should not only shorten their daily showers by a minute -- a common recommendation in the West -- but should try to take baths in quick succession, the report said.

Japanese usually wash outside the tub and then soak in hot water, which is then reused by the next family member. That means the water must be reheated each time if the next person in line dawdles.

Or we can have no kids, bathe together, and depopulate the planet while having fun (except for that freezing in the dark thing during the winter).

All the idiotic solutions of so called progressives are based on zero sum, and too many people.

British Government Builds Muslim-Friendly Apartments

New flats for elderly people have opened in Bristol - with toilets that do
not face Mecca.

The Muslim-friendly Very Sheltered Housing (VSH) scheme in Lincoln Street,
Lawrence Hill, also includes beds that allow a tenant's feet to point in the
right direction. Lincoln Gardens cost more than £6 million, has 55 bedrooms and
was put up by the city council and the Guinness Trust on the site of the former
Wainbrook elderly persons' home.

It
includes 19 flats suitable for "tenants from the Muslim community" following
local consultation.

A council spokesman said: "The toilets in these flats are orientated so
that the user doesn't face Mecca."

Beds are placed so that feet are facing south east and not north
west.

If you think about it, if the toilets face away from Mecca, that means you shit in the direction of Mecca.

As I understand it, the British government was also kind of to think of the needs of the needs of these elderly Muslims in that they have provided Koran Toilet Paper, so they can continue to read the Koran even as they do their toilet.

"White Folks Greed Runs A World In Need"

Barack Obama is an extraordinarily divisive figure, not because of who he is, but because of what he says. Does he still find the claim that the "world in need" is caused by "white men's greed" to be credible?

No Presidential candidate has run for office on an explicitly racist platform since the Democrats of the mid-19th century. But if Obama still endorses references to "white men's greed," as he did when he wrote Dreams From My Father, he is disqualified from office on grounds of racial divisiveness alone.

Can you imagine what would happen to a white candidate who said that he selected a church and attended it for twenty years because he liked the fact that the minister said the world's problems are caused by "black men's [fill in a vice]"?

30 Years After Camp David, Israel Still Does Not Appear On Egyptian Maps

Nearly thirty years after the Camp David 'peace treaty' between Egypt and Israel was signed, Israel does not exist on any maps sold in Egypt. To Egyptians, Israel is just a 'painful reality.' But only a virtual one.

Breaking ranks with other Arab nations, Egypt was the first to recognise the state of Israel, followed by Jordan and Mauritania. The other 18 member states of the Arab League do not officially recognise Israel.

Maps of the region sold in Egypt are often produced in other countries such as Syria or Lebanon."No, there are no maps with the name Israel. We follow the rest of the Arab world in this, peace treaty or not," snapped Ibrahim Mahmud, who works in a bookshop in downtown Fagalla Street.

But this isn't just about maps.

A widespread boycott of "normalisation" with Israel means there are no Israeli books in libraries and no Israeli films shown on Egyptian screens for fear of lodging Israel into people's consciousness, some observers say.

"It's a type of schizophrenia, a regrettable denial of reality," said Emad Gad, a researcher at the Al-Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies, who edits a monthly publication of Arabic translations of Israeli texts.

"A cold peace does exist. At the top of the social ladder there is dialogue and business, but at the bottom there is a void," Gad told AFP.

Proof That Ahmadinejad Uses The Terms "Zionist" and "Jew" Reflexively

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will sometime point out that his criticism is of Israel, and of "Zionists", not of Jews. He will also point out that Iran has Jewish citizens, and that those Jewish citizens are treated well. He offers this as proof that he has nothing against Jews.

You see, he only hates "Zionists".

Arriving in Rome for a United Nations summit, Mr Ahmadinejad said: "The
people of Europe have suffered the most harm from Zionists and today the costs
of that falsified regime, whether political or economic, are on Europe's
shoulders."

He added: "I do not believe my statements [at the conference] will
cause any problems. People love what I say because they are trying to save
themselves from the oppression of Zionists."

So, the question is, how have the people of Europe "suffered the most harm from Zionists." The people of Europe made it impossible for Jews to live in Europe, and so Jews moved to Israel, where they have since been labeled "Zionists".

How do Europeans suffer from this situation? The Europeans, largely, got what they wanted. There are not many Jews left in Europe. There are even fewer Jewish Zionists. So, how is Europe suffering at the hands of Zionists?

Britain's Home Office Has An Idea: Counseling For Terrorists

Terrorists can be turned into model citizens by the use of compassionate counselling, crystal healing and aromotherapy.

"Islamic extremists should get therapy," Home Office tells local councils.

Islamic extremists could escape prosecution and instead receive therapy and counselling under new Government plans to "deradicalise" religious fanatics.

The Home Office is to announce an extra £12.5 million to support new initiatives to try to stop extremism spreading. The central element of the Home Office plan is a new national "deradicalisation" programme that would persuade converts to violent and extremist causes to change their views.

Controversially, the new plan makes clear that people who fall under the influence of violent organisations will not automatically face prosecution.

Instead, the presumption should be that some such individuals would face therapy and counselling from community groups instead of criminal charges.

Down the Kansas State University Collegian Memory Hole

Last month I penned a letter-to-the-editor to the K-State student paper the Collegian. The topic of the letter was an article about K-State honoring a Nigerian governor. The governor of Zamfara state, Mahmud Shinkafi is also a rabid proponent of Sharia Law. When not flogging unwed mothers, Shinkafi spends his time issuing death threats to journalists that he doesn't like:

Even as prominent and respected Muslims try to douse the serious situation, those who started the fire are still trying to sell snake oil. As calm was returning to the country, Deputy Governor Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi of Zamfara State, where the Sharia penal code reared its head in 1999, issued a ‘fatwa’ (religious decree) saying: “It is binding on all Muslims wherever they are, to consider the killing of the writer as a religious duty. …. Just like the blasphemous Indian writer Salman Rushdie, the blood of Isioma Daniel can be shed.”

The day the article on honoring this monster was published was also the last day of the paper's operation for the semester. Today they have started updating the Collegian's website, so I just went over there to see if they would have the intellectual honesty to post my comments or letter. Instead, the article of May 9 has been completely removed. At the article's original link there is this notice:
