A group of MPs have called for an investigation into a far-right website described as a training manual for anti-Muslim paramilitaries – amid fears that an upcoming exhibition of cartoons of the prophet Muhammad in London is designed to incite Islamist violence.
The Gates of Vienna website has been heavily promoting the exhibition, which is understood to feature the same drawings shown in Texas in May when two gunmen attempted to storm the event and were killed by police.
It has been organised by the former Ukip parliamentary candidate Anne-Marie Waters and is set to take place at a location in central London on 18 September with tickets priced at £35.
Organisers say among those attending will be Geert Wilders, the Dutch rightwing politician who has espoused controversial views on Islam.
In a report on the so-called British counter-jihadist movement, published on Monday, the anti-fascist group Hope Not Hate called for the exhibition to be banned.
Nick Lowles, Hope Not Hate’s chief executive, said: “Our concern is that the event is intended to provoke a reaction from British Muslims. It is not about freedom of speech, it is about incitement. The authorities cannot allow this event to go ahead. Communities shouldn’t rise to their bait, we must stand together as a show of strength.”
Lowles also said he had serious concerns about material published on the Gates of Vienna website.
The site – the name of which refers to a 1683 battle between European forces and the Ottoman empire – contains detailed descriptions of how anti-Muslim paramilitary groups could operate during a conflict with European Muslims.
One entry is a fictionalised account of a predicted race war, described as “a hard look at the near future in Britain”, with a section entitled “A guide to amateur bomb-making”.
Waters is a contributor to the site and has written a lengthy post about the London exhibition.
Lowles said he believed the site was hosted on British servers. “If a Muslim had a similar website, which includes bomb manuals and details about assassinations and establishing paramilitary groups, then you can be sure action would be taken,” he added.
Those with a grasp of the underlying chemistry (which we will not be discussing in detail in this document) and the barest familiarity with Google will quickly discover that all sorts of chemical precursors for home-made explosives are available online to whoever wishes to order them, certainly in retail quantities and sometimes in bulk.

British police have refused to deny the sensational claim by hard-left activist group Hope Not Hate that former-EDL leader Tommy Robinson was recalled to prison to prevent him from taking part in a ‘draw Mohammed’ competition.
Writing in an already questionable report, which in a stunning leap of logic claimed freedom-of-speech campaigners in the United Kingdom were attempting to ignite a civil war with British Muslims, Hope Not Hate director Nick Lowles wrote there had been a government conspiracy to take Robinson out of circulation.
In a section of the report summarising the backgrounds of the Mohammed Cartoons organisers, Lowles claimed Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Lennon, had been:
“returned to prison for breach of license (for a conviction for mortgage fraud) in what appeared to be an attempt by the authorities to prevent him from getting in the cartoon plot”
BRUSSELS (AP) — NATO declared its "strong solidarity" with Turkey on Tuesday as ambassadors gathered for a rare emergency meeting about the threat faced by a member.
Turkey requested the extraordinary meeting to gauge the threat the Islamic State extremist group poses to Turkey, and the actions Turkish authorities are taking in response, including attacks on Kurdish rebels.
"We strongly condemn the terrorist attacks against Turkey, and express our condolences to the Turkish government and the families" of victims killed in recent terrorist actions, NATO ambassadors said in a statement after the meeting.
"Terrorism poses a direct threat to the security of NATO countries and to international stability and prosperity," the NATO statement said. "It is a global threat that knows no border, nationality or religion_a challenge that the international community must fight and tackle together."
Article 4 of NATO's founding treaty empowers member states to seek emergency consultations when they consider their "territorial integrity, political independence or security" to be in jeopardy. This was only the fifth such meeting in NATO's 66-year history.
In Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkish and U.S. officials were discussing the creation of a safe zone near Turkey's border with Syria, which would be cleared of IS group presence and turned into a secure area for Syrian refugees to return.
Speaking at a news conference Tuesday before leaving for China, Erdogan also said it was impossible to advance a peace process with the Kurds as attacks on Turkey continue.

A Kennesaw family whose children are home from college have won a battle against Cobb County code enforcement, but the war may not be over yet.
The Oviedo family’s two kids are home for summer, which means there are four cars parked in the driveway. This
doesn’t sit well with code enforcement, which due to a recent rule
change on so-called Open Space Community property can only allow two
cars to be parked in each driveway.
Cobb
County created Open Space Community zoning as a way to “encourage the
preservation of natural resources within residential development.”
As
such, a portion of the relevant review criteria for obtaining open
space zoning is that “[l]ots must be designed so to accommodate on site
parking for at least two vehicles.” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that a recent rule change prompted the visits from code
enforcement, so the on site minimum may have been changed to an on-site
maximum.
A reporter with WSB-TV was able to contact Cobb County to
get the Oviedos a reprieve for the summer, the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution reports. The family will have to apply for a permit
to park more than two cars in their driveway for next summer, or the
conflict will start anew.
The Iran deal will provide Iran with a cash windfall as sanctions are eased and assets are unfrozen. The total amount is estimated to be as high as $150 billion. If so, the Iran deal would give more cash to Iran than the $124.3 billion U.S. has given in total aid to Israel since 1948.
The exact amount that Iran would gain through the unfreezing of its foreign assets is a matter of some dispute. The Israeli ambassador has put the number at $150 billion; the Obama administration puts the number at $50 billion, since some of Iran’s assets “have already been obligated, including for projects with China,” the New York Times reports.
Others say the number is higher; Foreign Policy estimated the number at “north of $120 billion,” with an additional $20 billion per year in oil revenues, making the deal worth $420 billion over 15 years.
IAEA Would Depend on Iran to Collect its Own Samples for Nuclear Residue Testing

nuclear activities at its military sites will have to rely on material
evidence provided by the Iranian government, according to a senator who
attended a closed-door briefing with administration officials last week. Sen.
James Risch (R., Idaho) said at a Senate Foreign Relations hearing
Thursday that Iran would be responsible for collecting its own samples
from its military complex Parchin to turn over to international
inspectors for nuclear residue testing. International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and U.S. officials would not be allowed to
independently collect the samples under the current agreement, Risch
said.
Later today, July 27, German scientists will present new experimental results on the controversial, "impossible" EM Drive, at the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics' Propulsion and Energy Forum in Orlando.
The presentation is titled "Direct Thrust Measurements of an EmDrive and Evaluation of Possible Side-Effects."
Presenter Martin Tajmar is a professor and chair for Space Systems at the Dresden University of Technology, interested in space propulsion systems and breakthrough propulsion physics.

The EM Drive (Electro Magnetic Drive) uses electromagnetic microwave cavities to directly convert electrical energy to thrust without the need to expel any propellant. First proposed by Satellite Propulsion Research, a research company based in the UK founded by aerospace engineer Roger Shawyer, the EM Drive concept was predictably scorned by much of the mainstream research community for allegedly violating the laws of physics, including the conservation of momentum.
However, NASA Eagleworks – an advanced propulsion research group led by Dr. Harold G. “Sonny” White at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) – investigated the EM Drive and presented encouraging test results in 2014 at the 50th Joint Propulsion Conference.
White proposes that the EM Drive’s thrust is due to virtual particles in the quantum vacuum that behave like propellant ions in magneto-hydrodynamical propulsion systems, extracting "fuel" from the very fabric of space-time and eliminating the need to carry propellant.
While a number of scientists criticize White's theoretical model, others feel that he is at least pointing to the right direction.
The NASASpaceFlight website and forums have emerged as unofficial news source and discussion space for all things related to the EM Drive and related breakthrough space propulsion proposals such as the Cannae Drive.
