Three Russian warships cross Bosphorus, en route to Syria

From Will at THE OTHER NEWS:
The Priazovye

Three Russian warships cross Bosphorus, en route to Syria. (HD).

Three Russian warships crossed Turkey's Bosphorus Strait Thursday en route to the eastern Mediterranean, near the Syrian coast, amid concern in the region over potential US-led strikes in response to the Damascus regime's alleged use of chemical weapons.

The SSV-201 intelligence ship Priazovye, accompanied by the two landing ships Minsk and Novocherkassk passed through the Bosphorus known as the Istanbul strait that separates Asia from Europe, an AFP photographer reported. The Priazovye on Sunday started its voyage from its home port of Sevastopol in Ukraine "to the appointed region of military service in the eastern Mediterranean", a military official told the Interfax news agency. Russia, a key ally of Damascus, has kept a constant presence of around four warships in the eastern Mediterranean in the Syrian crisis, rotating them every few months.

It also has a naval base in the Syrian port of Tartus whose origins date back to Moscow's close relationship with Damascus under the Soviet Union.

Moscow vehemently opposes the US-led plans for military action against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in response to the chemical attack outside Damascus last month. RussianPresident Vladimir Putin warned on Wednesday that any US Congress approval for a military strike against Syria without UN consensus would represent an "aggression".

I think an attack against Syria will happen (I hope for the sake of Christians there that it doesn't).

What scares me is not being able to tell whether Russia is bluffing or they're really serious about helping Assad.

If they are serious, I wonder why since this can trigger a war that may turn into what the cold war never did turn into.

However, its kinda scary how unclear what Russia may do really is.

The more I think about it, the more I don't like an unpredictable Russia.

The Russia situation really scares me.

They have too much hardware out there waiting.

One wrong move and we will be in WWIII. And unlike the last 2 world wars, I truly believe we will be bombed here in the states.

I meant..."what scares me MORE"...

Sometimes I swear I think I'm high when I write these comments...and I don't even smoke!

Hm. I guess Argentina ain't so bad considering the WWIII scenario!

I mean who'd want to bomb the <a href="http://www.eviajado.com/files/media/ushuaia-1.jpg>end of the world</a> anyway!

I haven't been high in so many years, I've almost forgotten what it's like.

Okay...I've never been high...or drunk. And seeing that I act high/drunk without it (I mean look at my comments), I think I better stay away from weed and drink in moderation...

And most importantly, eat a lot of bacon to keep the Muslims away!

Which reminds me, Eid Al Adha is coming up (the one after hajj). I think I'm gonna celebrate it by slaughtering a pig...there's going to be a lot of blood of course, but fret not...I got a Quran handy to wipe it all clean!!

OT

My friend had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days in Dearborn.

She had a choice between halal and yucky food.

She was pissed!

Nico, is it true the three frontiers area is controlled by Al Qaeda? I knew it was a no-man land, but mostly drugs, money laundering and contraband, but terrorists too?

Anonymous said...

Charles Martel,

The area is said to be not only run by Hezbollah, Al Qaeda and other related terrorist organizations for financial gains (especially Paraguay who don't have any anti-terrorism laws and don't want to deal with terrorism anyway) but there are reports of Iran stationing and training Hezbollah agents in the Paraguay region of the tri-border area.

These groups basically have free reign there with Paraguay not willing to do anything about it, Brazil not able nor willing and Argentina basically allied with Iran (yeah, allied with the wrong side AGAIN...Peron's legacy I guess).

Apparently drug trafficking also funds terrorist activities.

Anyway...after 1992 and 1994 bombings, it seems Argentina's decision was to ally themselves with terrorists (like Germany did after the Munich massacre) so as not to get attacked again.

Either way, its a mess down here. If Argentina wanted to clean up its own border area, it would be pretty easy to do (only about 80,000 people to sift through). But La Presidenta is too busy on twitter and fighting phantom "corporaciones" to worry about anything real.

With all that said, if there could be any hope, it would be that Argentina would elect someone with brains (something that hasn't happened in like 70 years) who is going to get rid of the terrorist supporters from the border area.

I don't see Brazil or Paraguay ever fixing their part of the tri-border area.
