I have no expertise in this field but I pulled this quote from the zerogov blog. I believe it is worth investigating:
"Don't ever think the Left is scientifically literate.
"A 2MW wind turbine contains 260 tons of steel requiring 170 tons of coking coal and 300 tons of iron ore, all mined, transported, and produced by hydrocarbons. A wind turbine could spin until it falls apart and never generate as much energy as was invested in building it."
I remember reading something similar about ethanol.
