TURIN, Italy (Reuters) - People who manufacture weapons or invest in weapons industries are hypocrites if they call themselves Christian, Pope Francis said on Sunday.

Francis issued his toughest condemnation to date of the weapons industry at a rally of thousands of young people at the end of the first day of his trip to the Italian city of Turin.

In the same speech, Pope Francis appears to call for acts of terrorism:

Francis also built on comments he has made in the past about events during the first and second world wars.

He spoke of the "tragedy of the Shoah," using the Hebrew term for the Holocaust.

"The great powers had the pictures of the railway lines that brought the trains to the concentration camps like Auschwitz to kill Jews, Christians, homosexuals, everybody. Why didn't they bomb (the railway lines)?"

The Vatican officially recognized the state of Palestine in a new treaty finalized Wednesday, immediately sparking Israeli ire and accusations that the move hurt peace prospects. The treaty, which concerns the activities of the Catholic Church in Palestinian territory, is both deeply symbolic and makes explicit that the Holy See has switched its diplomatic recognition from the Palestine Liberation Organization to the state of Palestine. The Vatican had welcomed the decision by the U.N. General Assembly in 2012 to recognize a Palestinian state and had referred to the Palestine state since. But the treaty is the first legal document negotiated between the Holy See and the Palestinian state, giving the Vatican's former signs of recognition an unambiguous confirmation in a formal, bilateral treaty. "Yes, it's a recognition that the state exists," said the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi. 

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said it was "disappointed."
"This move does not promote the peace process and distances the Palestinian leadership from returning to direct and bilateral negotiations," the ministry said in a text message.

VATICAN TO RECOGNIZE PALESTINE:  The Vatican has brokered at “treaty” with the “State of Palestine.” The treaty reportedly deals with the activities of the Catholic Church in Palestine. Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is expected meet with Pope Francis over the weekend to finalize details.

The Vatican has referred to Palestine as a “state” since November 2012, when the UN voted to upgrade the Palestinian Authority’s status from “entity” to “non-member state.”  Just last week, Pope Francis said the Vatican would canonize two nuns who lived in Israel under Ottomon rule as “Palestinian saints.”

It hasn’t been very long since the Palestinian Authority/PLO was widely considered to be a terrorist organization.

Well, it’s all part of a global progressive movement. Pope Francis has been dogged by accusations that he is sympathetic to communism.  The Pope doesn’t help allay these concerns when he meets with Raul Castro, reinstates a Marxist “liberation theology,” vocally anti-Israel Nicaraguan priest who won the Lenin Peace Prize,invites a Peruvian liberation theology priest to speak, and hosts the World Meeting of Popular Movements, where he said attendees must unite ”against the structural causes of poverty, inequality, the lack of work, land and shelter, the denial of social and labor rights,” and confront the “empire of money.”

At a minimum, it seems Pope Francis is becoming very cozy with liberation theology, which is essentially a progressive/Marxist vision of Catholicism.  A top Soviet bloc defector recently claimed that liberation theology was created by the KGB.

The Italian government went on high alert last week after threats from the Islamic State called Italy “the nation signed with the blood of the cross.” 

The video threat, released with images of 21 Coptic Christians from Egypt who were beheaded this month, warned that Islamic State forces were “south of Rome,” in Libya. At its closest point, Libya is little more than 100 miles from the Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia.

Vatican City (AFP) - Pope Francis marked the second anniversary of his election on Friday by giving an interview in which he says he expects his time at the Vatican to only last for another two or three years. 

"I have a feeling my pontificate will be brief," the 78-year-old told Mexico's Televisa channel. 

"Four or five years, I don't know. Two years have already gone by. 

"It is a vague feeling I have that the Lord chose me for a short mission. I am always open to that possibility."

A foreign intelligence service: two Arabs spoke of the opportunity to 'do something' at the Vatican. 

ROME - The alert has been upgraded three days ago, on the eve of the public hearing of Pope Francis. A "demonstrative act in the Vatican" spoke a signal transmitted intelligence to law enforcement. 

The alert is based on an intercepted conversation between two Arabs, nothing particularly alarming. But the tension is already high and the threat of terrorism Isis is scary, especially after the decision of the United States and the United Kingdom, which is shared by Italy and other European allies to arm the peshmerga, and more recently to initiate targeted bombings in Iraq . 

In St. Peter's Square was increased the number of patrols of police and policemen in uniform, but mostly it was intensified surveillance carried out by men in plain clothes. Better checks are carried out inside, on the directive of the gendarmerie who still has constant exchange of information with the Italian authorities.
