The Islamic Veil In France

From this August 9, 2009 article in the Washington Post:

...French people have long been accustomed to Muslim women wearing head scarves and long dresses. But the sight of women covered by black veils, increasingly frequent in some towns, has become the latest test of France's uneasy role as host to the largest Muslim population in Europe, nearly 6 million out of 64 million. Because of its stark distinction from the way European women dress, the full veil has generated a public outcry, becoming a symbol widely perceived as an assault on France's secular values.

"It's ridiculous," sneered Jose Aparecio, 66, a retired plumber surveying the busy square in Venissieux. "I don't know what they're trying to prove."

Most of the outrage, particularly among Paris commentators, has centered on women's rights, based on a supposition that women who wear full veils are forced to do so by their husbands. For instance, the Council of State, France's highest administrative tribunal, upheld the government's refusal to naturalize a veiled Moroccan woman because it said her attire "clashed with the values of a democratic society and the principle of sexual equality."

But more broadly, the decision to wear a full-length veil has been interpreted as a way to defy the ideal of integration, which traditionally has underpinned France's attitude toward Muslims and other immigrants. By ostentatiously refusing to blend in, women wearing such attire have generated intense resentment among European-stock French people long uncomfortable with an unaccustomed religion in their midst.

To some extent, the resentment also has spread among Muslim immigrants, particularly the elderly, who from humble beginnings worked hard to become part of the society and now see fellow Muslims challenging their adopted values. "If they don't like it here, they can always leave," sniffed Mustafa Zemaoui, 65, a retired locksmith who was sipping on a little glass of rose wine as the lunch hour approached.

I'm not sure that I have recently seen in print in a mainstream-media publication that wearing the burqa is promoting "Islamic fundamentalism," which might be better expressed by the words "Islamic terrorism." Of course, using the words "Islamic terrorism" is tabu as those words interfere with singing kumbaya with those sworn to our destruction.

What's the new euphemism? Man-caused disasters, or something like that?

Barbarism in Mecca

This should come as no surprise, of course, but it’s worth reminding ourselves now and again of just what chilling possibilities lie ahead if we continue to allow the creeping Islamisation of Western democracies.

A Saudi businessman has been sentenced to four months in prison and 200 lashes by barbarians in that country for hosting a mixed concert at his fun park in what the Muslim world calls a “holy city”, that of Mecca.

He was arrested after an argument with agents from the powerful religious police who ordered him to end the concert, the daily Okaz said, as handed on to us by Austalia’s Courier Mail.

“A court found the man guilty of hindering the work of the agents of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, known as Muttawa,” says the Courier Mail, “and involvement in ‘organising a concert where men and women mix’.”

Ooh. How utterly obscene!

It continues:

The ultra-conservative kingdom applies a strict version of sharia, or Islamic law, which imposes segregation between the sexes.

It is also the only country where women are not allowed to drive, and they have to cover themselves from head to toe while in public.

On a lighter note, there is some compensation for that last point. At least they can ride a bicycle (or “burcycle” and the clue is in this portmanteau name) which allows them to cover up and be on wheels at the same time – courtesy of a sort of mobile shed.

It doesn't get much shittier than this!

If you need any more proof of just how shitty, how utterly, utterly shitty, a religion Islam can be, you might like to read this disturbing report in Britain’s Sunday paper, the Observer.

The headline sets the scene admirably: Rape victim, 13, stoned to death in Somalia.

Some earlier reports had put the victim, Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow, at 23; now it’s emerged she’s just in her teens.

Ophelia Benson in her Butterflies and Wheels blog post is characteristically – and justifiably – angry. “Bastards bastards bastards,” she begins, continuing, “It can tip you right over the edge sometimes, contemplating how unfathomably foul people can be.”

She cites an Amnesty International report on the issue, which describes how the girl was stoned by 50 men with a lorry load of stones brought for the occasion. This took place in a stadium, watched by 1,000 people. As some ran onto the killing ground to try to save the girl’s life, militiamen opened fire, killing a boy who was a bystander.

You can read more on my regular blog here, but first let me ask this: this story has had a good airing, so there is no excuse for any Muslim groups, mosques or individuals not to be aware of it in Western societies with a free press, so how many will stand up and denounce it?

The Muslim vote

Our politicians are shit-scared of criticising Muslims in case they lose the vote. When I say "our", I mean in the UK, dear old Blighty, where I am based. I dare say it's much the same elsewhere.

This, in my humble opinion, is why Muslims are allowed to get away with what they damn well like. They whine, they whinge, they demand, they burn things, they threaten, they march, they complain, they believe everything should go their way because of some deluded belief in a sky fairy, and their particular seventh-century interpretation of what that sky fairy wants them to do.

We see again how the OIC (Organisation of the Islamic Conference) countries are making demands on the United Nations, who may well introduce a blasphemy law (or strong guidance) worldwide (just after the archaic and risible nonsense has been scrapped in the UK, thank goodness!).

Now we learn from our Daily Telegraph – among others, no doubt – that MPs (Members of Parliament) are afraid to speak out on such things as forced marriage in case they offend the Muslims, and, of course, lose their votes. Which strikes me as the fault of Muslim areas that are too concentrated on the one hand, and, on the other hand, gutless MPs who put their jobs before their principles.

I might add that, if MPs of all stripes decided that they would commonly fight the Muslim threat to Western values with whatever legislation could fairly and humanely be brought into existence, then the votes issue would cease to be such. There would simply be laws saying no forced marriages; no special privileges for religions reasons; no kowtowing to "sensitivities" over whether pigs, say, are featured in kids' schoolbooks; no halal meat (it is permitted to use this barbaric form of slaughter in the UK, but only for Muslim slaughtermen, and likewise for Jewish ones to produce kosher meat); no permission to wear bin bags (sorry, burkas) if you're in, say, a medical environment; no special fiscal arrangements so they can have their sharia credit cards; no wailing from an electrically enhanced muezzin blaring over our cities to call the faithful (gullible) to prayer; no special pleading by Muslims when our emergency services need to put life and limb before religion (see also this); and I could go on, but I'll stop there.

Now the Barbarians Want Britain to Adopt Islamic Values in the Name of Integration!

This is the limit! The chutzpah of it all! Now the Muslim immigrants want the indigenous British population to adopt some Islamic values to integrate with the Muslim community! Integration, he says, works both ways. Yes, Dr Bari, just as it does in Saudi Arabia, and in other barbaric Islamic cultures. This really is the giddy limit! This is the example par excellence of Muslim immigrants trying it on.

How much longer must the long-suffering British tolerate this damn nonsense?

Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari now suggests that alcohol be banned in all public places, just like smoking! (What did I tell you would happen after that ridiculous smoking ban?) He also wants the British to adopt arranged marriages, and homosexuality must be outlawed again, of course. In a few words, they want to drive us all back to the Dark Ages.
This man thinks that Britain could benefit from a little more morality (Islamic morality, of course). Hm! Does this ridiculous man not think that the Islamic world could benefit from a little more Christian humanity?

When immigrants start trying to dictate the terms and conditions, it is high time that the indigenous population sat up and started thinking seriously about repatriation for this group of people who are so obviously impossible to integrate. For if something is not done about this problem soon, then I see only strife ahead. The streets of Britain really will, then, become “rivers of blood”! - ©Mark.

THE TELEGRAPH: The head of the Muslim Council of Britain does not mince his words on integration, report Rachel Sylvester and Alice Thomson

There is fear and loathing in Britain. This week, the head of MI5 claimed there were 2,000 people involved in terrorist activity and children as young as 15 were being "groomed" to be suicide bombers.

Gordon Brown announced plans to require immigrants to learn English and Downing Street said the Prime Minister wanted to double the number of days that terrorist suspects can be detained without trial. Then, just as the Metropolitan Police was being censured for shooting the Stockwell One, the Lyrical Terrorist became the first woman to be convicted of terrorist crimes.

Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, the leader of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), thinks the Government is stoking the tension. 

"There is a disproportionate amount of discussion surrounding us," he says. "The air is thick with suspicion and unease. It is not good for the Muslim community, it is not good for society."

The 53-year-old special needs teacher has a gentle manner and a quiet voice - he describes himself as a "community spokesman" rather than a "religious leader" - but he does not mince his words.

Britain must, he warns, beware of becoming like Nazi Germany.

"Every society has to be really careful so the situation doesn't lead us to a time when people's minds can be poisoned as they were in the 1930s. If your community is perceived in a very negative manner, and poll after poll says that we are alienated, then Muslims begin to feel very vulnerable. We are seen as creating problems, not as bringing anything and that is not good for any society."

There is, in his view, no such thing as Islamic terrorism.

"Terrorists are terrorists, they may use religion but we shouldn't say Muslim terrorists, it stigmatises the whole community. We never called the IRA Catholic terrorists." Dr Bari thinks Jonathan Evans, the head of MI5, made the extremists' job easier by giving a bleak picture of the threat on the eve of the Queen's Speech.
