Superintendent Says Students Are Armed with Rocks In Case of a School Shooting
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. -- There’s a rocky controversy when it comes to school safety in Schuylkill County.
The superintendent of the Blue Mountain School District is in the spotlight after telling lawmakers in Harrisburg his students protect themselves against potential school shooters with rocks.
“Every classroom has been equipped with a five-gallon bucket of river stone. If an armed intruder attempts to gain entrance into any of our classrooms, they will face a classroom full students armed with rocks and they will be stoned,” said Dr. David Helsel.
That was Dr. Helsel testifying to the House Education Committee last week in Harrisburg.
The superintendent of the Blue Mountain School District was explaining his unconventional form of protecting the students in their schools in the event of an active shooter situation: give them rocks.
“At one time I just had the idea of river stone, they`re the right size for hands, you can throw them very hard and they will create or cause pain, which can distract,” said Helsel.
Helsel says teachers, staff and students were given active shooter training through a program known as ALICE which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate and they routinely hold evacuation drills for active shooter simulations.
But if a teacher decides to lockdown a classroom, there are rocks in a five-gallon bucket kept in every classroom closet that students could throw if shooters get inside.
Still, Helsel says the rocks are seen as a last resort.
“We have devices installed in our doors that help to secure them, to make it very difficult to break through,” said Helsel. “We also have, we train kids and talk about barricading the doors.”
A teenager who is a senior a Blue Mountain High School and says he and other students like that plan.
“It matters because it will help protect the schools, anything helps, rocks are better than books and pencils.”
Parents do as well.
“At this point, we have to get creative, we have to protect our kids first and foremost, throwing rocks, it's an option,” said Dori Bornstein.
But not everyone thinks this is a practical line of defense.
“I think that's rather comical,” said one college student in Schuylkill Haven.
“It's absurd, arm the teachers,” said a parent in Schuylkill Haven.
Helsel says the district has no plans to arm teachers, however, Blue Mountain does have a maintenance employee who is trained and certified to work as school security and is armed.
And the district plans to have more support staff get the same training to act a security.

Terrorist Attack At Travis Air Force Base Has Investigators STUMPED

Investigators said Friday that they are stumped as to why a man drove a flaming minivan — carrying propane tanks and gasoline containers — into Travis Air Force Base in Northern California this week, and they see no evidence of terrorism. 

A man identified as Hafiz Kazi, 51, from Sausalito, Calif., died in the Kia minivan Wednesday after veering through the main gate at Travis and crashing, FBI Sacramento agent Sean Ragan said. 

“Why did this individual end up at the front gate of Travis Air Base on fire and now deceased?” Ragan said. “We don’t have the answers to that.” 

Local emergency teams, including fire, police and medical personnel, responded to the crash, Fox 40 Sacramento reported. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was also called to the scene. 

Kazi had no known links to terrorism, did not leave behind a manifesto or any threats or explanation, and a video found on a cellphone provided no clue. Investigators know of no one else associated with the incident nor any threats to the air base or surrounding community. 

Kazi also never served in the military and has no known ties to the air base, Ragan said. 

No shots were fired as he entered the base, and it was only after the fire was out and responders broke through the locked minivan doors to aid Kazi that they realized the vehicle was loaded with five propane tanks, three gallon-size gasoline cans and several cigarette lighters, Ragan said. 

Also found was a gym bag with personal effects and three cellphones. 

He said Kazi was a native of India who has lived in the U.S. since 1993 and was a permanent legal resident. 

Ragan said investigators have been unable to find any of Kazi’s family living in the U.S., but a family member in India has been notified of Kazi’s death. 

He said Kazi appeared to work as a cab driver in the past, but investigators haven’t determined if he was currently employed. It was not clear if he owned the minivan. 

“We don’t have any evidence of any religious affiliation or anything at this point,” Ragan said. “As of right now, we know of no other associates.”

A woman who was trafficked into prostitution by another teenager at her care home when she was just 13 has revealed how everyone around her – from police to staff to teachers and social workers – shockingly turned a blind eye. 

Zoe Patterson’s book Trafficked Girl is published today and details how she was sexually abused and raped by older Asian men while living at a Midlands care home, often being forced to have sex with multiple men on a nightly basis. 

When she first admitted to a social worker what was happening, she was laughed at and the only real response from staff at the unit was to put her on contraceptives. 

Now, Zoe says that society still finds it easier to blame vulnerable young girls rather than working to bring abusers to justice, as well as revealing her fears that young girls are still at risk in the care system despite high profile grooming scandals in Rochdale, Rotherham and Telford. 

Speaking exclusively to Femail, Zoe, 30 who still lives in the Midlands said: ‘I do have concerns that abuse like the kind I suffered is still taking place. 

‘The area where I was abused has reduced the size of its children’s homes and closed down the larger homes, but this won’t do anything towards changing the attitudes of some of the staff that run them and fail to protect the residents. 

‘I do think that society finds it easier to blame the victims than to delve into the horror of what’s really going on in situations of abuse ‘If society can turn its back on one person or group, it could turn its back on you too. So people think it’s better not rock the boat and risk being thrown overboard. 

‘It seems that it is easier to point fingers and blame the vulnerable than admit that actually we are all vulnerable and would stand a much better chance of eradicating abuses like these if we could only see each other as equal and connect with each other and care for each other.’ 

Zoe was placed in residential care home, which she has given the pseudonym Denver House, at the age of 13 after being removed from her violent, alcoholic parents. She was already drinking heavily and self-harming. 

One evening, a girl called Abbie, 15, took her to a ‘party’ with three older Asian men, at least twice their age where she was raped by a man called Yasir and a second man. 

She admitted to a social worker what had happened, but was laughed at and the only real response from staff at the unit was to put her on contraceptives. 

Afraid of retribution from Abbie, she continued to attend ‘parties’, feeling as if she had no choice. ‘I cannot imagine what Abbie’s motives were when she sold me, apart from the obvious one of earning money,’ Zoe said. 

How did social workers react to Zoe’s rape? By the time my social worker, Valerie, came to the unit later that day, I was so upset I’d decided to risk Abbie’s retribution and tell her what had really happened. I was crying and could feel my cheeks burning with humiliation as I described what the two men had done to me. But I felt a sense of relief too, knowing that whatever happened next was now the responsibility of an adult who would know what to do because it was her job to look after children like me. 

‘I told Abbie I wouldn’t say anything,’ I said, suddenly afraid again of the ‘really serious consequences’ she’d threatened if I breathed a word to anyone. I’d been staring at my feet while I spoke, and when Valerie didn’t say anything for a few seconds, I looked up at her and saw, to my amazement, that she was smiling. 

‘Well, Zoe,’ she said at last, ‘you’re never going to be satisfi ed now with what most girls your age would think was a normal relationship. No heavy petting for you from now on. You’re only going to be happy with full sex.’ Then she laughed. For a moment, I couldn’t make any sense of what she was saying. I remember thinking, ‘She can’t have listened to a word of what I’ve just told her. She wouldn’t have said something like that if she had.’

Why was I given contraceptives, for example? I was 13 years old. I hadn’t wanted to have sex and I didn’t intend to have it again – ever. But the assumption seemed to be that from now on sexual activity would be part of my new life, like cleaning my teeth with a toothbrush. 

That was just the way it was going to be. So the sole responsibility of the people whose care I had been placed in was to provide me with the means of not becoming pregnant. 

Now the question that kept going through my head was, had Mum been right all along and I deserved everything bad that happened to me? The answer seemed to be ‘Yes’. ‘I don’t know if she acted out of fear or if she even considered any of the consequences of her actions. 

At the time, she certainly didn’t give the impression that she was scared or that she had given any thought to what her actions would mean for me. 

‘I will never forget the way she smirked and laughed when she walked in and witnessed me being raped that first time. As you might imagine, I have had to deal with a lot of anger concerning Abbie. 

‘I believe that an action is its own reward or punishment. I came to this conclusion after many hours of soul searching, trying to make peace with what has happened to me and wondering about the word justice.

Today chairman Bob Goodlatte sends a formal subpoena to the DOJ (Inspector General Michael Horowitz) for documents regarding the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private email server, potential abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility recommendation to fire former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. However, it’s not the subpoena that should make the news. Pay close attention to the DOJ response. 

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) is one of the top three people throughout the entirety of congress with a comprehensive knowledge of the events surrounding the investigations of the FBI and DOJ. 

Chairman Goodlatte is one of only four people outside the DOJ who have read the full DOJ FISA application used for a Title-1 Surveillance warrant of Carter Page. 

The House Judiciary Committee holds the primary statutory oversight over the U.S. Department of Justice. Additionally, Chairman Goodlatte is the congressional office working closest with DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz. 

In short, Goodlatte is the center of all ‘oversight’ information circling the investigations into the DOJ and FBI. However, all of that said, even Chairman Bob Goodlatte doesn’t, and shouldn’t, know what criminal investigations are underway. 

We’ve explained this dynamic of disconnect numerous times. We really began emphasizing this when AG Jeff Sessions admitted he brought in a prosecutor from outside Washington DC to work with Inspector General Horowitz. 

You can read the Goodlatte Subpoenas – HERE – along with the letter that accompanies his demand. 

However, more important is the response from the DOJ as communicated by Fox News journalist Chad Pergram (emphasis mine):

Oh, what’s that? Yes, the DOJ has to review the demand for evidence because release of those documents might conflict with ongoing Grand Jury information (evidence). Yes, that means a Grand Jury is impaneled, exactly as we expected. 

Yes, that also means there are “law enforcement actions” currently ongoing as a result of the prosecutor assigned to reviewing the evidence discovered by Inspector General Horowitz.

Terrorist attack in two close French locations

A hostage situation with 2 people murdered took place in Trebes, France, committed by an Islamic State supporter:

At least two people were killed after a gunman claiming allegiance to the Islamic State group opened fire and took hostages at a supermarket in southwest France on Friday, security sources told AFP.

Police were negotiating with the unnamed hostage-taker who remained holed up in the Super U store in the town of Trebes after storming in at around 11.15 am (1015 GMT).

French investigators suspect the gunman is a Moroccan man who had been flagged as a potential extremist, a security source said.

A witness reported that the assailant was armed with knives, a gun and grenades and shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest) before going into the supermarket.

A source close to the probe said a Moroccan man had been identified as the hostage-taking suspect.

“Most of the Super U staff and customers managed to get away,” said a security source, who asked not to be named because he was not authorised to speak publicly.

“An officer is currently in contact with the hostage-taker.”

The source said two people had been killed according to a provisional toll, while regional police chief Jean-Valery Lettermann told AFP: “We are unfortunately expecting to discover there are more victims.”

Fifteen minutes before the supermarket incident in Trebes, a policeman was shot in the nearby town of Carcassonne while out jogging with several colleagues.

He was in a stable condition, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said.

There was a report on TV stating that a third victim sadly succumbed to death. The area of Trebes was struck by terrorism before, and if the authorities/government are smart, they'll start doing sweep inspections to locate the hideouts and black markets these jihadists are getting their sanctuary and weapons from.

School children throughout Norway will be sent out via “Operation Day’s Work” to collect millions for BDS NGO KFUK-KFUM Global (“Y Global”) to help mobilize protests against Israel. 

Norwegian newspaper the Aftenposten reported that revenues from this year’s Operation Day’s Work, which will take place on November 1, “will go to support Palestinian youth”. 

Operation Day’s Work is the students’ annual solidarity campaign where youth throughout the country work one day and earn income for different projects. 

Representatives from schools across the country voted for the project under the Elevtinget, the Student Organization’s National Assembly or “Pupil’s Parliament”. It is the second largest country meeting in Norway, after the National Organization in Norway trade union association. 

At the meeting students from all over Norway meet to discuss “how Norwegian schools can be the best possible”. 

The NGO’s application to the Student Organization’s National Assembly to be chosen for Operation Day’s Work states the project’s purpose to be “empowering youth for sustainable peace in Palestine.” 

It includes a detailed budget for disbursal of monies to projects like “Palestine, East Jerusalem, Gaza YWCA” costing 16,080,000 kroner, and various “evaluation”, “administration”, and “follow-up” items totaling a budget of 19,000,000 kroner. 

“The entire program is based on a series of educational and awareness raising trainings and campaigns for the targeted youth.” 

The application states the program’s overall theme is “gender and human rights”, with extra emphasis on “transformation from passive subjects to active citizens and ending the occupation through promoting a just peace in Israel and Palestine.” 

Another stated area of Y Global’s special emphasis is “challenging gender roles through transformative masculinity,” linking feminist agendas to subverting Israel by placing “a strong focus on liberation from oppression, especially for girls and young women”. 

The program targets 10,900 youth (male and female) between 13-19 years old. “These youth will be both Muslims and Christians. 

The youth will be participants in the YMCA or YWCA, school students, members of scout groups and other youth groups. They will be from various districts of West Bank [sic], including East Jerusalem, and Gaza communities living in cities, villages, and refugee camps. 

In addition, some youth will also receive additional training and become trainers for others. 

These trainers are anticipated to reach even a higher number of youth.” “When we mobilize youth to work for just peace in Palestine, there will always be some risk involved. 

However, the program will have a strong focus on minimising these risks, especially as we are dealing with youngsters. 

For example, we will ensure that political events happen is safe spaces where we do not risk confrontation with the Israeli military or settlers. Our local partners have a long experience in organising protest activities, such as vigils and demonstrations, in a safe way. 

The training will also include how to plan activities in a way that ensures their safety. 

This includes training in assessing risk, different creative non-violent resistance methods and how to act if they do end up in a dangerous situation. 

This allows them to be engaged and make a difference without the need to be in direct conflict with the Israelis. 

Y Global’s English website states it “is an independent development and solidarity organisation owned by the Norwegian YWCA-YMCA and the Norwegian YWCA-YMCA scouts. We work towards giving human new facilities and build strong democratic communities [sic].” 

The Norwegian-language website provides more detail: “Fair Peace: Since 2000, around 700 Palestinian children (12-18 years) have been arrested every year on the West Bank. 

They have been arrested and interrogated by the Israeli military, police, or security officers and been tried in Israeli military court. 

“Official Palestinian statistics show that throughout 2012, Israel arrested nearly 900 Palestinian children, while in 2016 more than 1,300 children were arrested. 

This shows a large increase in the number of arrests of Palestinian children over the last 5 years. 

“Through the rehabilitation program, East Jerusalem YMCA has helped 377 of the children arrested last year, as well as 223 of their parents, in 2016. These children have been helped to integrate back into their local communities. 

The target group in the rehabilitation program is children and adolescents suffering from physical and mental disorders as a result of political violence and torture associated with arrests and imprisonment. 

Some of the specific services given to these young people are psychosocial counseling (both in groups and individually), family therapy, academic rehabilitation, projects that help young people become self-employed, sports and leadership training.” 

On a Facebook post, Y Global announced winning Operation Day’s Work: “Kfuk-Kfum Global and our good Palestinian partners have been awarded this year’s Operasjon Dagsverk project! Thank you to amazing youth at Elevtinget for trust, appeals and support!
