Alexander Haig

Quotes from the General (via NewsMax):

“Hezbollah would never move without the OK of both Iran and Syria. … “

“Every time they [the MSM] can find a reason to make it look like there is no way the West can win, they use it. … ”

“I warned President Reagan that the U.S. was going to have to face this Hezbollah gang after they had murdered our Marines …”

“I long thought that we have been in the middle of World War III with respect to [Islamic] fundamentalism. …”

LOL. I'm old enough to remember the reference.

Under Haig's watch, the American response to the Hizbollah atrocities was to tuck tail and get the hell out of Lebanon. Hizbollah, naturally, spun this as some sort of victory over the Great Satan. This set the precedent for almost two decades of US response to various Jihadist groups, until 9-11 came along.

Haig deserves some of the blame for the ignomonius retreat from Lebanon, I feel. If he really felt otherwise back in 1983, and wanted to actually go after the murdering Muslim sons of bitches, that's fine. The record will show that. But I very much doubt that was the case.

Hindsight is 20/20, and Haig is yet another voice muttering "I told you so".

My purpose was only to show that another politician was finally getting it. Better late than never!
