Ibn Khaldun is not so much known as a philosopher but rather a historian, reputedly the very first to give a true historical account. I do not have the book - like every book I need is the one I gave away - but what I remember from reading is the he stated that it is the Rulers duty to wage jihad.It is of course some years since I read it but I could almost swear he said
something to the effect that whilst the Christian rulers were obliged to go to war in defense of their lands, the Emir had to wage war on infidels at all times. If anyone has the book, please check
