NEW: Robert Reich calls for the "defunding" of Elon Musk, calls for Democrats to go after Musk's companies. "Democrats ought to [start] laying the groundwork for nationalizing Starlink & SpaceX... It should be a public corporation." Does he want Musk to drop another $50M on the midterms?

Robert Reich: “We’ve got to defund Musk. And when I say defund Musk, you know, 75% of his wealth is dependent on taxpayers who are buying Starlink systems for the Department of Defense. Defund Musk. I mean this. If we have a Democratic administration, and the Democrats ought to be starting this, not just with oversight hearings, but also starting laying the groundwork for nationalizing Starlink and SpaceX.
Nationalize it. It should be a public corporation.
We should not ever have that kind of power in one person’s hands, one private person’s hands. I mean, Musk is buying, trying to buy the senator from Texas. I mean, why would we, why should we allow this? Seriously.
Well, we shouldn’t. And then this week people started talking about, oh, Musk is going to be held accountable. And he said Live by the sword, die by the sword. That was his— that was in X on, uh, on one of his— yeah.
Yeah, on Twitter, on X. And he said that. And he also said, anyone who picks a fight with me, you’re going down. And he was talking about the Dems. And it’s not a fight. It is accountability. I mean, it is holding him accountable is what people are talking about. And so he’s getting ahead of it, threatening, threatening, threatening, threatening with his money, with his power, with his reach. with his connections.
Well, he knows that if the Democrats take over the House and possibly the Senate, one of the things they are going to be doing is focusing on Elon Musk.
I mean, he’s really going to be targeted, and he knows it. And he’s going to be using his 360 million followers or 260 million followers on X to kind of give him a buttress against that. And he’s going to use litigation. And he’s— I mean, this is— When I say this is Exhibit A in terms of the billionaire takeover of America, this is the oligarchic problem. This is— Musk represents the power of oligarchy in America over democracy. And it’s something like what happened in the first Gilded Age when we had the robber barons. I mean, he is the equivalent of the robber barons of the first Gilded Age, but he’s much, much— he’s even worse. Bigger, even more corrupt in terms of trying to bribe his way into politics. And he also ends USAID. I mean—
Well, the Dems have to have it on their list of one of the many things to fix and hold people accountable for.
