This is quite rich coming from somebody who took the role of a propagandist in favor of Islam (and even downplayed Iran's tyranny) when she wrote the Muslim Ms. Marvel book in the past decade. Now, she has the gall to address an issue she's unqualified for commenting on, where she'll doubtless claim the Religion of Peace was just "hijacked". If there's anybody whose word shouldn't be taken at face value on topics like these, it's Wilson, whose books should be boycotted.

The second is Neil Gaiman, the UK-born scribe who penned the 1989-96 take on Sandman:

Well I think it's a good thing Gaiman's speaking Rushdie's favor. But, is he going to develop any books of his own employing themes similar to what the Satanic Verses contains? Let us be perfectly clear. If you're not willing to exercise your own free speech rights in protest of the tragedy Rushdie suffered through, your words ring hollow, and you're not accomplishing anything or doing justice for the victims of Islamic jihadism. This cowardice has practically led to the modern state of censorship that's affected much of the world, and while you may see some of these would-be auteurs recommending the books that started it all, they do not seem even remotely interested in emulating any of the ingredients the book contains, no matter what they say in their alleged solidarity with the victim of the horrifying jihadist crime.

And does Gaiman also condemn the threats that were made against J.K. Rowling? It should be noted that earlier, Gaiman signaled support for anti-Israeli propaganda, and in doing so, was letting Islamofascism - the very ideology Rushdie fell victim to - off the hook. Such leniency will not solve the issue, and Gaiman decidedly owes an apology for going by double-standards.

Recently I stumbled across the New York Post article entitled "Obama was as clueless about 9/11 as he is about ISIS" (February 28, 2015).

The essay points out that, in 2004, Obama added a new preface to his 1995 memoir Dreams from My Father.

Excerpt from the above article (emphases mine):

That President Obama won’t call it Islamic terrorism; that he believes we shouldn’t be on a “high horse” because America and Christians have done bad things; that Muslims are victims of “bigotry and prejudice”; that his State Department says it’s the lack of jobs, not religion, that fuels ISIS, should come as no surprise.

After all, he said the same thing about 9/11.

In 2004, Obama released an update of his 1995 memoir, Dreams from My Father, with a little-noticed new preface about the attacks.

“This collective history, this past, directly touches my own,” he added. “Not merely because, as a consequence of 9/11, my name is an irresistible target of mocking websites from overzealous Republican operatives. But also because the underlying struggle between worlds of plenty and worlds of want…is the struggle set forth, on a miniature scale, in this book,” which at its core is an indictment against Western imperialism, racism and colonialism.

Obama goes on to say he identifies with the “desperation and disorder of the powerless,” and how they can “easily slip into violence and despair.”

“The Muslim world has suffered historical grievances,” Obama last month asserted while hosting his “Summit on Countering Violent Extremism.” He blamed the rash of global terrorism in part on “a history of colonialism” in the Mideast, Africa and South Asia....

I shall soon have in a hand a copy of the 2004 edition of Dreams from My Father. I want to see that preface with my own two eyes!

If that preface is as Mr. Sperry as described in his essay, then we have written evidence from which we may be able to discern on the basis of Obama's own words why he plays such word games with regard to Islam.  Obama doesn't see Islamic terrorism as terrorism at all, but rather as postponed, long overdue justice?  Is that it?

I managed to access a portion of the preface at Amazon, but not the entire preface. However, I did notice that Obama used the phrase "my brethren" in reference to the ummah in general.

RIP: Richard Matheson (1926-2013)

Richard Matheson (1926-2013), author of the macabre and science fiction, inspired Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Ray Bradbury.

Matheson's works include the novel I Am Legend, the short story "Duel" (made into a 1971 television movie directed by Steven Spielberg), the Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," and other works.

Distant Episodes: The Portrayal of Islam in the Literature of Paul Bowles

Paul Bowles was the author of The Sheltering Sky. He is one of my favorite authors.

I am currently reading a novel by Bowles entitled The Spider's House. Nico, who is an ex-Muslim, has also agreed to read it and we will eventually do a post on our thoughts about the work.

I have a memory of having read a long article about Paul Bowles and Islam sometime shortly after 9/11. I believe the article was in the New Yorker or the Atlantic. Periodically, I scan Google searches looking for it, but alas, it is, for some reason, impossible to locate.

Today, I found this review of a book of Bowles' short stories. The review is dated October 21, 2001:

Always admired by his fellow writers, Bowles achieved wider public fame with Bernardo Bertolucci's 1990 film version of his 1949 novel, ''The Sheltering Sky.'' Like that longer work, over half of the 62 stories in this collection are set in the Muslim world; indeed, most are intended to portray Muslim experience and sensibility. 

In these stories, Bowles employs a style purged of American idiom and liberally sprinkled with Arabic words, which are inserted for coloration but also to fill the cultural gaps that language cannot traverse (just as our front pages nowadays use ''jihad'' or ''fatwa'').  

It is precisely in such uncharted territory that Bowles likes to situate his narratives. His representation of the relationship between Islam and the West is, to borrow another term from our current war lexicon, ''asymmetric.'' Here the Westerner is fascinated by the Muslim. The Muslim is, at best, incuriously aware of the Westerner.  

I received the review copy of this collection in late August and was rereading it in the second week of September. Events transformed what was in my hands.  

One story in particular, ''A Distant Episode,'' read differently after that awful Tuesday. The story was first published in 1947, shortly after Bowles's expatriation. In it, an unnamed, middle-aged French professor comes to ''the warm country'' (Saharan Morocco) to undertake research on variations in the Moghrebi dialect. The region, still a French possession, is evoked sensuously, with a redolence of ''orange blossoms, pepper, sun-baked excrement, burning olive oil, rotten fruit.''  

In addition to his linguistic investigations, the professor wishes to acquire some ''little boxes made from camel udders.'' By night, he is taken to the poor quarter of the town, where he is assured he can buy such bric-a-brac. He is instead robbed, beaten up, savaged by dogs and abducted by traders traveling into the desert by camel train.  

The reader is lulled into expecting a familiar captivity narrative. The expectation is brutally subverted.  

One of the traders pinches the professor's nose, then yanks out his tongue and slices it off. The atrocity surprises the professor and shocks the reader: ''The word 'operation' kept going through his mind; it calmed his terror somewhat as he sank back into darkness.''  

The student of Arab tongues now has no tongue. His captors have more than torment in mind for him. They deck him out in a head-to-toe costume made from the circular bottoms of tin cans strung together. Clad in this mock armor (the detritus of his Western civilization), he is now ''a valuable possession'' -- a tin box, no less.  

Over the following months, the professor is trained to caper for the postprandial entertainment of his owners. He is taught ''obscene gestures'' that ''elicit delighted shrieks from the women.'' He grunts hilariously. In the course of time (they are, after all, traders) the professor is sold and then stranded in a remote town. He throws himself on the mercy of a French soldier. ''Tiens,'' the poilu exclaims, ''a holy maniac,'' and takes a potshot at him, driving the comical tin man, clanking and gibbering, into the cold desert night -- an unwelcoming yellow road.  

One can allegorize this enigmatic story any number of ways: as a fable of mutual exploitation, mutual incomprehension or the casual sadisms engendered by decaying imperialism. 

The question that presses, however, is: does the professor know more about Muslims when he is a mutilated clown than he did when he was an academic? Must one suffer -- extremely -- at the hands of one's opponents to understand their extremism? Kurtz's ''exterminate all the brutes'' is the easier response. Bowles does not surrender to such easiness.

Prophet Ray Bradbury

A few prophetic excerpts from Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury in 1953:

“We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but everyone made equal. Each man the image of the other; then all are happy, for there are not mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against.

The novel also contains this passage:

"It didn't come from the Government down. There was no dictum, no declaration, no censorship to start with, no! Technology, mass exploitation, and minority pressure carried the trick, thank God. Today, thanks to them, you can stay happy all the time, you are allowed to read comics, the good old confessions, or trade journals."

We are already living in the dystopia portrayed in Bradbury's prophetic novel.

The Apostleship Of Barack Obama?

Before long, it will be blasphemy to criticize Barack Hussein Obama (from the Daily Caller with a hat tip to Debbie of Right Truth):

Book compares Obama to Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King

Looking for something to read as Thanksgiving approaches? Or a unique take on what has made President Barack Obama such a successful politician? Or perhaps an explanation of Obama as an apostle and his “politics as religion?”

You could check out “The Gospel According to Apostle Barack” by Barbara Thompson (AuthorHouse 2012). The mouthful of the book’s subtitle is: “In Search of a More Perfect Political Union as Heaven Here on Earth.”

The book’s thesis is that Obama is not just the 43rd president of the United States. Much more than that, he’s an apostle akin to Martin Luther King, Jr. or even Jesus Christ.

According to Thompson, she began to have a series of unusual dreams as she formulated ways to help Obama win the 2012 presidential election:

I learned that Jesus walked the earth to create a more civilized society, Martin (Luther King) walked the earth to create a more justified society, but, Apostle Barack, the name he was called in my dreams, would walk the earth to create a more equalized society, for the middle class and working poor. Apostle Barack, the next young leader with a new cause, had been taken to the mountaintop and allowed to see over the other side.

The stated goal of Thompson’s book is to “unlock the answers” contained within Obama’s numerous speeches, so that “his followers” may have a guide “to creating and living in the reality of a middle class lifestyle that was so economically and ethically sound that it appeared to be ‘heaven here on earth.’”

The author, a professor, is a member of the physical education faculty at Florida A&M University.

The 220-page book provides an in-depth assessment of Obama’s political ideas, according to The Famuan, the student newspaper at Florida A&M.

The book also breaks down the policy accomplishments of Obama’s first term, including Obamacare, the economy and education. Thompson calls these various initiatives the “Good news” from the apostle, The Famuan reports.

Thompson’s son, Gibran, initially motivated her to write the book. He was badly hurt in an accident, and Thompson prayed for him to be healed.

Once Gibran did, in fact, recover, she dreamed that the spirit of God instructed her to take a journey with Obama. God’s spirit called Obama an apostle in the dream.

The new book by Geert Wilders, Marked for Death, is apparently neither being advertised nor offered in European Amazon. About two months before its publication date, it was possible to reserve the book on your Amazon wish list. In that space now, there is an empty window — without even a dust jacket. Unavailable. Then if you go to amazon.de, you find out it no longer exists.

...If you call up the book on amazon.com and then substitute .de for .com in the address line, so you can order the same book in English, the message appears: “Sorry, the web address you have given does not exist on our website.” If you try this procedure with any other book in English, the “translation” from amazon.com to amazon.de works effortlessly, as always.

Well, OK, not at German Amazon. Maybe British? So instead of dot.com, we put in dot.co.uk. The result is the message: “We’re sorry, the web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site.” Hmm, no active site for the new Wilders book.

If you try the same procedure with another English language book, you get the respective active pages on amazon.co.uk and amazon.co.fr. Just not with Geert Wilders’ book.

Our impression: Amazon does not intend to offer Geert Wilders’ new book in Europe. Since Amazon is having no problems with it in the USA, and the book there is at the stupendous bestseller rank of 459, the suspicion is that someone in Europe has caused some trouble or made some threats. So, is the idea really to keep the book away from Europe?

Book Review: Arsenal

Good fiction is another medium for waking up people to the dangers of Islam.

Tammy Swofford’s suspense novel Arsenal, the title referring to strategic thought rather than to the military battlefield or acts of militant jihad, lives up to its genre label. The plot, well delineated and plausible, deals with the search for an Islamic treasure, namely, a pouch containing the hair of Muhammad the Prophet. Early on in the novel, the voice of a minor character describes the mission of the Muslim Brotherhood in the West, deemed decadent by the devout, and lays the foundation for the suspense plot that rushes to fulfillment in the second portion of Arsenal:

“'Just as we are to recite the Qur’an in a measured tone, we must also move in a measured and quiet manner in the West. We do not move as a lion, but we move as a panther'” (19).

Along the way, Arsenal, points out the dangers of geopolitical Islam and the West’s gullibility thereto, particularly the lack of Western understanding of the 1998-2007 wordcraft sword of Islam as expressed by the thoughts of the character Ahmad as-Sirjani:

“Universal Values. Two simple words….The words would sound secular, adaptable to the Western ear. But the cryptograph would be Qur’anic….It was time for a paradigm shift” (103).

Genre and political aspects aside, what makes this novel an outstanding and readable piece of writing is threefold.

Obama Administration Officials Buying Up Copies Of Unflattering Book

Obama administration officials scrambled Friday to hunt down copies of a new book scheduled to be released next week that paints an unflattering portrait of a dysfunctional and acrimonious White House...

The book, “Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington and the Education of a President,” by journalist Ron Suskind, comes at an inconvenient time for an administration that increasingly finds itself on the defensive over questions of effectiveness....

[A]s copies of the book began circulating around town Friday, Obama’s aides and allies were forced to defend his management style against the portrayal conveyed by Suskind, who secured White House cooperation for much of his work. Suskind interviewed many top officials and was granted a White House interview with Obama.

White House officials were still reviewing the book late Friday. Communications director Dan Pfeiffer said that such books “tend to take the normal day-to-day activities of governing and infuse them with drama, palace intrigue and salacious details.”...

Book: Obama White House ‘Has a Real Woman Problem’
Published September 17, 2011

The Obama White House is a “hostile” environment for women even though they occupy many of the senior positions in the West Wing, according to a new book.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Suskind interviewed more than 200 people, including President Obama, for "Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington, and The Education of A President," which will be released Sept. 20.

The book portrays a White House in which Obama struggled with a divided group of advisers, some of whom he didn't initially consider for their high-profile roles. And top female advisers said they felt left out of key meetings or overpowered by their male counterparts.

“This place would be in court for a hostile workplace,” former White House communications director Anita Dunn is quoted as saying, according to the Washington Post, which obtained a copy. “Because it actually fits all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women.”

Dunn told the newspaper in an interview on Friday that she told Suskin “point blank” that the White House “was not a hostile environment.”

“The president is someone who when he goes home at night he goes home to a house full of very strong women,” she said. “He values having strong women around him.”

But a top female official blamed Obama for leading a boys’ club.

“The president has a real woman problem. The idea of the boys’ club being just Larry and Rahm isn’t fair,” she told Suskind, referring to former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Larry Summers, former chairman of the National Economic Council. Obama “was just as responsible himself.”

Christina Romer, former head of the Council of Economic advisers, described one meeting for Suskind in which she was “boxed out” by Summers, the Washington Post reported.

“I felt like a piece of meat,” she said.

The book also offers accounts of disagreement among advisers over how large a stimulus was necessary to revive the economy and how aggressively to deal with financial institutions that had become "too big to fail."

Summers is quoted as lamenting that he and others felt "home alone" and that mistakes made under Obama would not have happened under President Clinton, for whom Summers also served. Interviewed by Suskind, Summers initially denied making such comments, then acknowledged them, saying he was frustrated at having "five issues" of major importance to deal with at once and not "five times as many" officials to handle them.

The book also states Geithner and the Treasury Department ignored a March 2009 order to consider dissolving banking giant Citigroup while continuing stress tests on banks, which were burdened with toxic mortgage assets.

Geithner says in the book that he did not recall that Obama was mad at him about the Citigroup decision and rejected allegations contained in White House documents that his department had been slow to enact the president's plans.

"I don't slow walk the president on anything," Geithner told Suskind.

"The Citbank incident, and others like it, reflected a more pernicious and personal dilemma emerging from inside the administration: that the young president's authority was being systematically undermined or hedged by his seasoned advisers," Suskind writes.

The book also says Emanuel was not the president's first choice for the position. According to Suskind, Emanuel's name was not even on the initial short list, which included White House aide Pete Rouse.

The White House is downplaying the information in the book.

“Books like these tend to take the normal day to day activities of governing and infuse them with drama, palace intrigue and salacious details based on anonymous accounts,” White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said in a statement to Fox News.

“The truth is simply and well known: President Obama and his economic team walked into office during the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression and took bold, decisive action that prevented the collapse of the financial system, saving millions of jobs and putting the economy back in a place where it is creating jobs and growing again,” he said.

“The president made very tough decisions in the most difficult of circumstances and his team executed those decisions faithfully and tirelessly,” he added.

An investigative reporter, Suskind won a Pulitzer Prize in 1995 while working for the Wall Street Journal.

Who Wrote Obama's Books?

One factor leading to Obama's election in 2008 was, no doubt, the bestselling books he had authored. Supposedly authored, that is.

And would you ever again take me seriously if I published a review of Bush's new opera in which I wrote that "...through this work, so infused with the passion of Carmen, the musicality of La Boheme and the drama of Tosca, our forty-third president takes his place as the most gifted composer in the history of American politics"?

Of course not. No one, not even that former-Bush-White-House-press-secretary blonde who keeps showing up on Fox News, would believe this because it's utterly preposterous. A man who has displayed not the slightest musical talent simply cannot sit down one day and produce an operatic masterpiece.

And as Jack Cashill proves in "Deconstructing Obama," it is just as preposterous to believe that President Obama actually wrote his lyrical, extravagantly praised autobiography, "Dreams from My Father." On page after page, chapter after chapter, Cashill shows why it simply isn't possible for Obama to have produced such a high-quality autobiography....

By "Deconstructing Obama" page by page -- and piece by piece -- Cashill brings the reader to understand that in 2008 "Barak Obama" wasn't a candidate but a carefully created myth....

I'm not by nature a conspiracy theorist. However, the few pieces of writing we do know that Obama actually wrote don't begin to show the level of prose used in The Audacity of Hope and Dreams of My Father. I can state so definitively as I've read both those books.

Honor is Due.

I just received my copy of The Martyr's Prize from bn.com. I know we could have requested a free copy but 1) the author needs to make a living too and I don't mind paying for it and 2) I wanted a hard cover.

So (and I hope Mr Kelley doesn't mind) I scanned the Acknowledgements page and Selected Anti-Jihad Links page for all of you. So sometime when you're sitting there wondering why in the hell you bother sitting up late at night reading and looking at and writing about the worst humanity can offer just look at these pages and remember YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

And I raise a large tumbler of nice ice cold Wild Turkey (the 108 proof stuff) to our fearless frontman (and model for the original Animal) who, writing these words years ago, got the whole damn thing rolling and has been right up front ever since. And to all the rest of you who have kept it rolling, shining that light in the dark corners where angels fear to tread.

In Defense of Western Civilization

The purpose of this blog is the defense of Western Civilization against the encroaching Jihad, Sharia, and anti-Semitism of the extremists Muslims, often
called Islamists, or Islamofascists. This is the most important battle of our time. All else pales in comparison. Yet, the mainstream media refuses to explicitly tell us the truth of what is happening under our very noses.

Want an example?

Yesterday, a guy who calls himself "Hitler" was elected to the Palestinian Parliament. In addition, a man named Marwan Baghouti, who is a convicted mass-murderer, was also elected. These facts are mentioned in passing in the Associated Press articles, but they ought to have the headline.

Arab culture is so sick, and rife with anti-Semitism that men like David Duke are revered, and broadcast on National television as heroes.

The BBC publishes glowing, emotional eulogies about men like Yasser Arafat, who in his Palestinian National Charter, calls for the destruction of the entire state of Israel. Oh, by the way, that Charter is on the official United Nations website, so the UN is in on this blitzkrieg against knowledge.

Soldiers re-up because they believe in the war they are fighting, but the mainstream
media does not report it. Instead, they broadcast on the national news about
anti-war protests which only attract 12 people.

Our enemy is so evil, they rig children's toys with bombs, and yet it doesn't make the national news.

Did you know things like this were happening? No, because the media downplays this stuff. There is a sense in which we are live in an Orwellian reality. It seems possible that the media is made up of people who are anti-war by nature, and thus oppose America's war in Iraq because of Pacifism, not because it is an unjust war.

Pacifism is an illegitimate political philosophy. It is a beautiful personal philsophy. One ought to try to live peacefully. But, when whole nations of people are threatened, only people who are totally lacking in compassion would say that we shouldn't fight to defend them.

Should the Jews have sat back and let Hitler do what he did? Gandhi thought so. Here's a quote:

"I would like you to lay down the arms you have as being useless for saving you or humanity. You will invite Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini to take what they want of the countries you call your possessions...If these gentlemen choose to occupy your homes you will vacate them. If they do not give you free passage out, you will allow yourselves, man, woman and child to be slaughtered, but you will refuse to owe allegiance to them."

"I am as certain...that the stoniest German heart will melt [if only the Jews] adopt active non-violence. Human nature...unfailingly responds to the advances of love. I do not despair of his [Hitler's] responding to human suffering even though caused by him."

That's right, Gandhi advocated that the Jews turn themselves over to Hitler. One must ask oneself, what would have been the difference in result if one follows the philosophy of Hitler or the philosophy of Gandhi?

The answer is nothing. Millions of people dead, either way. Gandhi's philosophy was irresponsible, and yet, he is held up as a hero in our culture. Once again, this is largely the fault of the media. Hollywood produced a glowing biopic starring Ben Kingsley, which depicted Gandhi as a devotee of peace. But, his peace would leave millions dead.

Arghhh!

Ahmed Abu Ali May Sue

He really wants those books by BHO.

There are a couple of signs pointing to the idea that Abu Ali might sue. He already has a lawyer, who spoke to the AP briefly about this episode. Abu Ali also filed a handwritten prison complaint form, saying the Obama book rejections “violate my 1st Amend. rights.”

Back in 2007, the Bureau of Prisons directed its chaplains to purge the prisons of all religious texts. That policy shift, which stemmed from a governmental fear that prisoners might read religious texts and become Islamic extremists after 9/11, sparked huge response.

Many thought the move was unconstitutional, and a pair of inmates, citing the First Amendment’s guarantee of the right to free religion, sued over the matter.

In addition, Abu Ali requested those books before BHO was elected and gave his dhimmi Cairo Speech. I find it hard to believe that Abu Ali wants to read books by The Great Satan's first African-American President because Abu Ali wants to be a good citizen.

And if Abu Ali indeed has an attorney, who is paying for that attorney or which attorney is serving pro bono?

Abu Ali is presently serving a 30-year sentence. Hey, maybe he's planning to try for early release by volunteering at SERVE.gov.

DC Comics becomes Dhimmi Comics

Coming back from a vacation I was on, I've made quite a discovery indeed: DC is going to allow for a team-up between its superheroes and those of the Kuwaiti-based Teshkeel that go by the Islamic religion. The UK Guardian published the following article:

They are superheroes battling injustice and fighting evil the Islamic way, and they are teaming up with some of the west's biggest comic book icons. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are among those joining forces with The 99, who personify the 99 attributes of Allah, according to Islamic tradition.

And I'm guessing that, in the official books published in Kuwait, the "heroes" themselves personify such traits as jihad, conquering other countries and dhimmifying those they consider infidels, condone such quranic verses as "Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks..." (Qur'an 47:4), and even verses like “Forbidden to you are ... married women, except those whom you own as slaves” (Sura 4:23-24). That's exactly why to see these DC superheroes meeting up with a bunch whose religion and beliefs go entirely against their own will be one of the most implausible ever seen.

What will unfold on the pages of the collaboration between DC Comics in the US and Teshkeel Comics in Kuwait is yet to be seen, but the appearance of The 99 – who already appear in comics in the Muslim world – alongside archetypal American heroes would have been unlikely during the Bush years. DC Comics' president and publisher, Paul Levitz, believes the cross-cultural project is unprecedented.

Now that is hilarious. They make it sound as though most American comics actually did support the war against terror and uphold patriotic values. Sorry, but it was anything but that, and even now, they can't be counted on to offer a fully convincing portrait of superheroes fighting terrorism, even allegorically.

That aside, it's interesting to note that company president Paul Levitz has approved of this.

He said: "It is a long-standing tradition for characters to meet others in the fictional world, and over the years a lot of the superheroes have been translated into Arabic, taking on ethnic elements. But this is a nice step forward. The most difficult creative test is when you are working with the least precedent and when you're trying to reach an audience that has a different cultural bias and different interests."

It sounds like he may be subtly attacking the sensible audience if they're offended by this teaming of heroes who under better editorial would have more common sense with so-called heroes who could condone atrocities like jihadic violence and racism. If anything, this tells that Paul Levitz is clearly a bad lot himself. He was of course responsible for handing Dan DiDio the keys to the kingdom, and did nothing to stop Identity Crisis from being crafted. Once, he was a great writer, with plenty of Earth-2 and Legion of Super-Heroes stories to his credit. Now, it's clear that power and greed have consumed him, and I'm going to have to look upon him in disgrace.

Unlike their western counterparts The 99 do not wear disguises, unless you count the burka-wearing Batina The Hidden, nor are they outsiders with secret identities. They are ordinary people who develop extraordinary abilities after coming into contact with mystical gems infused with power and wisdom.

Only Batina, one of five females, is fully veiled, and although characters pray or read the Qur'an, they are meant to appeal to children of all faiths.

No kidding. Sorry, I don't buy that for a second.

But who are some of the people behind this particular "project"?

The team behind The 99 includes comic book stalwarts Fabian Nicieza, Stuart Moore, June Brigman, Dan Panosian, and John McCrea, who have all worked at DC Comics and Marvel.

And now I consider Nicieza and company as bad as leftist writers like Warren Ellis and Mark Millar, possibly even worse. Nicieza is clearly another of many burned-out comic writers who's naive to boot.

About 23 heroes have been launched and there are more to come.

Mutawa said: "We're building the brand slowly.

"It's difficult to have any kind of reading or comic book culture here because there is a lot of stuff that doesn't come in or it's censored. Certain storylines don't work and some stuff, like magic, just isn't allowed."

Really? In that case, how do they expect to craft anything fun to read? It does suggest though, that the Islamists behind The 99 despise Tales of the Arabian Nights, where plenty of magic is involved!

This is another reason why I find the big two in their current incarnation so alienating today, because they're willing to insult their own properties by involving them with others whose ideologies go completely against their own.
