Guantanamo Bay has President Obama Scared

From Ace of Spades:

Just add it to the list of his failures--not that I mind on this particular point, but it doesn't hurt to rub it in what a weenie we've got in the White House:

White House officials last week tried to downplay their decision to postpone by six months a key report on what to do with Guantánamo detainees when the facility is shut down. But the delay reflects the daunting political obstacles facing President Obama as he struggles to meet his pledge to close the prison by January. Only a few weeks ago, the White House had considered a grand rollout of its Gitmo plans with a joint appearance on Capitol Hill by Attorney General Eric Holder Jr., Defense Secretary Robert Gates and CENTCOM Cmdr. David Petraeus. But the president's aides concluded that a briefing would likely backfire, diverting attention from health care and giving Republicans fresh ammunition.

"There was no good reason to put it out there and have it attract fire," says a senior administration official who asked not to be identified talking about the internal deliberations. The White House announced last week's report delay in a late-afternoon press briefing that was embargoed until 9 p.m.—late enough to keep the disclosure off the network news and the cable talk shows with the highest ratings.

To be sure, Guantanamo Bay is a military facility. The President can close it and move the detainees as part of his commander-in-chief powers (though things might get sticky if Congress passes a law saying otherwise). President Obama won't do that. He's too afraid. He will--like always--announce a policy and then vote "present", hoping all the while that someone else will do it for him.

Ace of Spades makes an important point here. One that is too often neglected by Conservatives who are so intent on maligning Obama. The point? Obama never really does anything. He talks, he suggests, he announces intentions. But when the rubber hits the road, it's always Pelosi, Eric Holder, Harry Reid, or someone else driving the car.

Obama suggests a stimulus package. Pelosi pushes it through. Then, when it becomes a miserable pork-filled failure, Pelosi is left to take the blame. Of course, she is responsible for her part, but point is, Obama isn't. Because, Obama didn't actually work on the details of the Porkulus.

Obama believes this will give him cover.

I say, it's the opposite.

When the bill comes due on all his Hope and Change, the people he has used to effect the changes are not going to want to be left holding the bag. Why would they want to take the blame for his failed policies, even if they are culpable? Do you think Pelosi wants to go down with a sinking ship? Pelosi has proven herself to be a ruthless politician. There's no way she's going to let Obama loosen her grip on being "the most powerful woman in America".

All this as a prelude to say, Obama will not be President in 2012. I don't think Obama stands a chance against anyone in 2012, if he is even President by then.

I really do believe the man is going to resign.

I see things in terms of basic forces. Obama's policies are so destructive and outside the American Tradition that it is inevitable there will be terrible discontent among the electorate. This will scare Congress (the 2010 election is a big concern) and Obama will have to become the sacrificial lamb to die for the sins of the Democratic Party.

If this does not come true, then what we will see the longest lame duck Presidency in the history of the U.S.

Hilary has already walked off the Obama Reservation and is conducting her on Foreign Policy in her declaration that Iran WILL NOT have nuclear weapons.

That is evidence that Obama is no longer a man to be respected.

Everyone gives credit to Hilary for being calculating. So think about it, would she have said such a thing three months ago? No, because it is not Obama's policy. Now, three months later, she is attempting to force the policy of the Administration by making up her own.

Politically, this is very smart of her, because she is setting herself up as the person to take Obama's place in 2012.

Pastorius,
I hope you're right about the resignation of BHO. But even so, we'd have Bloviating Biden to contend with.

As for Hillary setting herself up for 2012, I think so. I watched her lengthy interview yesterday on one of the Sunday-morning talk shows.

Cannot agree. Resign? Despots never give up their power willingly.

No, I think you fail to understand the depth of this man's hunger for power.

This site was worried about "ODS." If you have carefully examined the roots of this man's governing philosophy, you would understand why certain elements of the blogosphere exhibited "ODS."

He IS a dictator. He does NOT believe in limited government. He does NOT believe in Constitutional republicanism.

The only things constraining him now are the cratering economy and Congress's desire for its own power.

They will never give up their power. Any "emergency" will be a pretext for grabbing MORE power, not giving it up.

Absent such an "opportunity", it is likely ACORN will just buy the next elections anyway.

Anonymous at 8:25 PM,
Obama has NOW committed impeachable offenses (in his firing of the IG's and likely in the way the Chrysler dealerships were closed), and he has taken our country way off track by taking over GM and Chrysler. Additionally, he has withdrawn Voter Intimidation/Fraud charges against the Black Panthers.

Those are concrete things to complain about.

We concerned ourselves with ODS when, in the early days of the Obama Admin, there were people already accusing him of stuff that he hadn't even had a chance to do yet.

It reminded me of how the first time I saw an Impeach Clinton bumper sticker was BEFORE Clinton had been inaugurated.

That kind of stuff is bullshit, and it's embarrassing to our cause.

He did not withdraw the charges. They were convicted.

Then the AG refused to take the case to the sentencing phase.

I got the facts wrong. Thanks for pointing that out.

But, that's even worse, right?
