"TRANSPHOBIC!": Arizona house passes ban on men participating in women's sports
The Arizona House of Representatives this week passed a ban on male participation in women's school sports leagues, a significant development in the ongoing fight between exclusively female sports teams and transgender participation in those teams.
The bill, which passed along party lines 31-29, will now head to the Senate for debate and passage there. Its sponsor, Rep. Nancy Barto, had argued that the innate genetic advantages that men have made it unfair to allow them to compete against women in athletic events.
Athletes whose sex is in dispute will, if the law passes, have to submit to a genetic test to make a final determination.
