Huge difference between criminalizing what consenting adults do and what is being foisted on children. The latter includes abuse of pre-pubescent beings not old enough to make decisions of this kind. That is exploitation, and banning both actions, instead of correctly focusing on the exploitation of children, violates rights in both cases.
I believe the twitter comments are missing the real issue here. What we are seeing is the reaction of a traditional culture to what they view as an unacceptably depraved set of outside influences. Consider, the major western cultural outposts in Southeast Asia are a pair of neo-fascist states in the thrall of a Luciferian cult. The Plebs of these states have accepted a Faustian bargain: A lifetime of uninhibited hedonism in exchange for the right to determine the meaning (and length) of this life.
Indonesians (and Malaysians, who will soon follow suit) are front seat witnesses to the worst sort of cultural behavior now emanating from the West. Not to mention the arrogant assertion the Western Way is the best, or only, acceptable direction forward. When Aussies and Kiwis periodically turn Bali into Cancun at Spring Break it ruffles a lot more than Islamic feathers. Add to that the reprehensible destruction of Thailand by Western Sex Tourism. It is not a pretty picture.
We in the West are increasingly careless as to the example we set around the world. And we are going to pay for out myopia.
Don't be mistaken. These new rules are not being forced down from above by an Islamic government tending radical. They are a genuine reflection of the popular will of the people who are in no hurry to shrug off their traditions and embrace a New World Order. Indonesians and Malaysian do not consider themselves Global Citizens. They are very traditional, even nationalistic. They are not impressed by what they've seen of the West.

Anyway, listen, I agree with everything you said, though I am not convinced by your assertion that this is bottom up. Can you provide any links to show that that is true?
As I understand it, there is a huge and organic transsexual culture in Jakarta. And, while i likely do not have the experience with the culture that you have, it seems to me, from what little i know, South Asians are not as uptight as Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese.
I wouldn't blame Indonesians and Malaysians for being disgusted by the West, but I would assume that their natural instinct would also be to be disgusted by the austerity and violence of Sharia.
And besides, in the stupid deck with which i play this game (of blogging), "Islam is fucking stupid" will always suffice for as much analysis as is needed for such a fucking wrathful and anti-human, tribalistic religion.
And that tribalistic religion and its people will be around after the West's peoples have disappeared due to their demographic death spiral. Guess the joke's on YOU
Western Civilization's luxuries were built on the back of Freedom of Choice, which is endemic to the Christian religion.
The problem is, once people have Freedom of Choice, they realize they can vote themselves into a situation where they are entitled to luxuries rather than having to work for them.
So, we are losing what we built.
That does not mean that Christianity will pass away.
It's not a joke. It is actually very serious.
Islam believes it can force conversion at the end of a sword.
That is evil.
Christianity's belief in Free Will will win out.
However, the way that develops and plays out will surprise you and everyone else.
