All of us, every single man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth were born with the same unalienable rights; to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And, if the governments of the world can't get that through their thick skulls, then, regime change will be necessary.

NYT:5 million lines of code must be rewritten
Otherwise no problem
National Health Care Programs are the bright bright future for us all
In other news: The Russian communist party admitted it has suffered some slight setbacks in its goal of Marxist-Leninist utopia. The Titanic ran into some ice on its maiden voyage to New York. Western Union has lost some ground in its telegram business. Kodak seems to have some problems with the sales of its films and cameras. President Obama has admitted the launch of ACA has not worked as smoothly as it was supposed to.
BTW, throwing away everything and starting anew WILL be easier and save tons of money...but I have a feeling they aren't interested in the annoyances of saving money.
Back in research, I wrote a piece of real time cardiovascular reasearch app which took in 16 channels of data endlessly .. displayed the waveforms and performed multiple means of real time analysis every few seconds. With the calibration and user controls it was 757,000 lines of code. The data analysis module was the same size. The data import export module was about 200,000 lines.
It took 2 1/2 years to reach initial deployment after testing even though it was for research animals only.
When I left that company, since I had written the app as a sales mgr and had never signed one of those 'anything you write belongs to us' contracts, the company wanted to buy the code. I offered to stay WITH the engineer for an afternoon for eval.
They had 5 people.
He looked for an hour and they dropped the offer. Trying to fix someone else's code is INSANE unless they spent more time documenting every single unit of function than actually writing the function.
If they don't rewrite, this is fucked. And if they DO, it won't be so fast.
I would break this down into small bites.
But of course that's why they are pushing folks to the phone.

The last one is a direct quote.
And virtually NO ONE has seen the premiums yet.
Ciccio,
The Titanic ran into some ice on its maiden voyage to New York.
Perfect analogy!
5 million lines...
F***!
I am starting to regret that I understand what that means.
