Christmas Day Jihadist Connect To Ft. Hood Shooter Major Hasan?

From Hot Air:

Hmmmm. An indirect connection to Nidal Hasan and the Fort Hood shootings? Via Mediate and Politico:

There was a suggestion of links between Abdulmutallab and radical US-born Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Aulaqi, who had contacts with the US army psychiatrist accused of gunning down 13 people at a Texas military base last month.

“He may have been in contact with the American imam al-Aulaqi,” Peter Hoekstra, the most senior Republican on the House Intelligence Committee and a member of Congress for Michigan, told AFP.

“There are reports that he had contact and that he was recently in Yemen. The question we’ll have to raise is was this imam in Yemen influential enough to get some people to attack the US again."

This sounds purely speculative at the moment, unless Hoekstra reveals more in an interview on Fox News Sunday tomorrow. But if it’s true, it sounds as though Anwar al-Awlaki may have been trying to take command of a more active wing of the al-Qaeda network all by himself. Too bad Awlaki may have survived that attack in Yemen after all.

Always did love "The Flying Dutchman" -- especially the overture!

Ed at HotAir discloses the terrorist wore an underwear bomb.

Though his dad is a high profile banker in Nigeria, his mom is from Yemen.

Recall the premature butt bomber in Saudi Arabia was also from Yemen.

Ye'men nuts go boom!

So there you have it. Anyone with a Yemen stamp on their passport (assuming they even have a passport) gets the full monty Jennings approved fisting from TSA before boarding any mass transit.

The Haskells, who say they witnessed the bomber being put on the plane by a well-dressed Indian guy in Nigeria, are also claiming that they saw another Indian man arrested at Detroit because a bomb-sniffing dog found something in his luggage. As with the AirTran testimony it may take awhile to find out the truth, but this is certainly getting more interesting by the moment.

Yes, Kevin the Fisting Czar ought to be in charge of Homeland Security, not "Safe Schools".

I'm less impressed with the senior Mr. Mutallab since one of the news stories mentioned that he introduced Sharia financing to Nigeria.

Apple didn't fall quite as far from that tree as some might have thought from the initial reports.

DHS Secretary Napolitano Statement on Northwest Flight 253
December 26, 2009
1:00 p.m. EST

"I am grateful to the passengers and crew aboard Northwest Flight 253 who reacted quickly and heroically to an incident that could have had tragic results. The Department of Homeland Security immediately put additional screening measures into place- for all domestic and international flights- to ensure the continued safety of the traveling public. We are also working closely with federal, state and local law enforcement on additional security measures, as well as our international partners on enhanced security at airports and on flights.

The American people should continue their planned holiday travel and, as always, be observant and aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behavior or activity to law enforcement officials.

Passengers flying from international locations to U.S. destinations may notice additional security measures in place. These measures are designed to be unpredictable, so passengers should not expect to see the same thing everywhere. Due to the busy holiday travel season, both domestic and international travelers should allot extra time for check-in."
