It's about god damned time.
NYTIMES:
André Gerin, a Communist Party legislator and mayor of Vénissieux, a Lyon suburb with many Muslims fromNorth Africa, began the affair in late June by initiating a motion, signed by 57 other legislators, calling for the parliamentary commission.THIS IS GREAT. THERE IS HOPE FOR EUROPE AFTER ALL. IF THE LEFT AND RIGHT WAKES UP, THEN THE CENTRIST/MAJOR PARTIES WON'T BE ABLE TO IGNORE THE PROBLEM.
“The burqa is the tip of the iceberg,” Mr. Gerin said. “Islamism really threatens us.”
In a letter to the government, he wrote: “It is time to take a stand on this issue that concerns thousands of citizens who are worried to see imprisoned, totally veiled women.”

But the left loves Islam. Just check out some of these pictures from the our elitist and smug friends at Berkeley:

Yes, but these are French Leftists. Maybe a movement will start there and gradually spread around the world.
You know, we here at IBA feature a blogger named Andy Armitage who is a Leftist from the UK. He also runs a blog called the Pink Triangle.
Andy and I might not agree on many political issues, but we agree that Islam is a threat, and so we work together.
That is nothing but a good thing.
Oh, I know. The objective left at least sees the threat. I'm more referring to the useful idiots and "dhimmicrats" who are willing to overlook abuses to free speech, freedom of religion, women's rights, gay rights etc. due to their blinding hatred of conservative Western values.
Yes, but what we see here is a group of those people who have changed.
I'm hoping we're seeing the beginning of a trend. But, maybe it's an aberration.
Pastorius,
You're right this is good news!
I am becoming more and more convinced that I just do not understand European politics.
This seems to be cause for cautious optimism, though.
Ro
I've seen several signs the French are learning. If anybody in Europe should understand a threat it's them first and foremost. I just hope it continues on this path and starts spreading because I'm going to need a place to escape too when the U.S. goes head under Islamic water.
Bernard-Henri Levy, the French leftist political writer, has been on their case to wake up and smell the cafe au lait for years. His book "Left in Dark Times" slaps the French Left upside the head for embracing Islamofascist regimes out of hatred for the US and Israel, despite "their ideology, their treatment of their own minorities... their anti-Semitism, their racism, their disdain for women and homosexuals, their lack of press freedom and of any freedom whatsoever". Maybe a newly anti-Islamist French leftist is someone whose Peugeot has just been torched by a gang of "Asian youths".
Revere Rides Again,
You could also say "mugged by reality."
