In which Frank Rich backs into the right question on fundamental Islamism

In a series of columns, editorials and articles this morning there is a consensus showing up, if not onthe right course in Afghanistan, then on the right CHOICES.

Military Victory or Go Home

Frank Rich meanders thru and around the Vietnam paradigm and offers no conclusion altho he unintentionally gets to the right issue.

Even if we routed the Taliban in another decade or two, after countless casualties and billions of dollars, how would that stop Al Qaeda from coalescing in Somalia or some other criminal host state? How would a Taliban-free Afghanistan stop a jihadist trained in Pakistan's Qaeda camps from mounting a terrorist plot in Denver and Queens?

Yes indeed, and that's because the war is with fundamentalist fascist Islamism. But a military victory in Afghanistan is an indispensible part of avoiding a worse situation than a bad situation until this way of believing is broken.

Rich doesn't get there of course since this violates the dialectic of progressivism in foreign affairs, and worse still violates the arrogance that we can control this by our behavior (something Michael Scheuer is delusional over as well..despite his great and long service..thank you, sir).

To avoid this all we have to do is everything the mass murderers want, today and tomorrow and tomorrow, and tomorrow.

WaPo chimes in with their own all or nothing, and Amir Taheri as well.

It will be interesting to see what Obama does as an academic issue considering what this and other writers have said about him, even today.

But no one should doubt that any decision other than to seek complete and utter MILITARY victory, eschewing nation building as a primary goal, and leaving the political result to be determined by the results on the battlefield, no matter where that leads will lead to greater loss of american life sooner or later.

This nation needs to seek complete military victory and reorder all national priorities to do so. If Mr. Obama leads to this end, he will not only retrieve his name and term from the ignominy it is surely headed for, he will alter destiny IN THE END to greater peace and greater world prosperity.

That's all there is. And I am sure that while this is at issue, Israel will attack Iran.
