My own guestimate, based upon observation, would be that somewhere around 8-15% of COVID deaths are real death by COVID.
I knew some people who got very sick, and had to be hospitalized. I do not recall ever knowing anyone who had to be hospitalized because of the Flu. Therefore, I do believe COVID was significantly worse than the flu.
However, other than very old people, I did not know anyone who died of COVID. In fact, I did not know the very old people who died of COVID. Instead, of the handful of people I heard of who died of COVID, all of them were relatives of secondary or tertiary friends. In other words, they were relatives of people I know, but do not spend time with.
Yeah, so I don't really know anyone who died of COVID. I only know of people who died of COVID, but I personally knew a few people who got very sick from COVID and had to be hospitalized.
Sorry for the belabored language. I am trying to be as specific as I can.
