The crisis will be in the Middle East"I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate," Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. "And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you - not financially to help him - we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right."
The crisis will be over Israel
Obama's resolution will involve a historic strategic shift of American priorities from Israel and democracy, to Arab/Persian oil and 'recognition' of 'legitimate muslims grievances'.
There will be a firestorm in the United States.
The nation will be divided.
Barack Obama has appointed advisers who have expressed the belief that Walt and Mearsheimer are correct, or that Israel is THE PROBLEM in the Middle East, and that Americans who happen to be jews are the problem here - and in this vein they agree with Pat Buchanan.
This battle, and this 'reasoning' has gone on since the day George Marshall told Harry Truman, that if he recognized Israel, not only would he resign as Secretary of State, but that he could not vote for him. It is continued today by people such as Michael Scheurer, and Robert Baer.THE THESIS:
"The bottom line is that AIPAC, which is a de facto agent for a foreign government, has a stranglehold on the U.S. Congress"
"The Lobby also has significant leverage over the Executive branch. That power derives in part from the influence Jewish voters have on presidential elections. Despite their small numbers in the population (less than 3 percent), they make large campaign donations to candidates from both parties. The Washington Post once estimated that Democratic presidential candidates "depend on Jewish supporters to supply as much as 60 percent of the money."76 Furthermore, Jewish voters have high turn‐out rates and are concentrated in key states like California, Florida, Illinois, New York, and Pennsylvania"
"Manipulating the Media
In addition to influencing government policy directly, the Lobby strives to shape public perceptions about Israel and the Middle East. It does not want an open debate on issues involving Israel, because an open debate might cause Americans to question the level of support that they currently provide"
No doubt Barack Obama will couch this (if this paranoid fantasy is correct) as a more even handed approach. No doubt he wil tell us this will help quiet the 'root causes' of strife in the middle east, and then ramp up the pressure on Israel.
This division of the nation by the 'unifier' will cause the most egregious outbreak of criticism, backbiting and bitter condemnations back and forth imaginable. And then.....
Barack Obama, his blacked out connections, his suppressed tapes, his attacks smearing valid critics, his intimidation of those who might be sources for critics, his attempts to criminalize and silence .. have not gone unnoticed.
For all Obama's laid-back, attractive appearance this election is being fought in an atmosphere of menace. Menace in the way ACORN is intimidating voters into multiple registrations. Menace in the way criminal donations to the Obama campaign have been institutionalised. Menace in the serial lies being told by Obama, Biden and the campaign rebuttal team. Menace in the way the few remaining proper journalists such as Stanley Kurtz are finding sources of information shut down and themselves shut out when they attempt to probe Obama's deeply dubious associations. Menace in the smears and hysterical abuse directed at anyone who questions The One. Menace in the threat of violence if Obama doesn't win. Menace in the pre-emptive smear that the only thing that could bring about an Obama defeat is the inherent racism of the American voters - a smear that potentially identifies all those who vote against him as public enemies.
Over the past seven years, the media has created the Big Lie that America is the biggest rogue state in the world, with Israel its proxy. Now it is ensuring that a man who will act on that very premise to crush America and destroy Israel will be placed in the White House to do so. It is not just that the west's Big Media can no longer be trusted. It has become the most important weapon in the arsenal of the enemies of the free world.
But of course, this is a paranoid delusion.
Barack Obama has told us he wants an undivided Jerusalem, right?
Epam, it's not paranoia if they are really out to kill you. Obama has been trying to pose as a friend of Israel and has succeeded to the extent that he now has what, 1/3 or more of the Jewish vote? And the LA Times refusing to release a video that could blow that fantary wide open? If he is elected, how long will he have to hide his real intentions under the guise of "even-handedness"? Once he is in office, who is going to stop him?
The mask will come off on January 21, 2009 -- short of a miracle, it will start slipping next Wednesday -- and how far will the Obamafuehrer and his gang dare to go and how fast? Will Israel, knowing that time has run out, attack Iran in the interim between the election and inauguration? (Will Iran beat them to the punch?)Will there be retaliations Obama can use to manipulate opinion, stir up resentments? (If Bush chooses to strike instead, which seems unlikely, the result will be essentially the same.) Phillips is right about the aura of menace. Obama can have a "not officially sanctioned" army of thugs ready at a moment's notice -- we've already seen relatively mild versions of them committing massive voter fraud.
Given the state of her own government, will Israel be pushed into concessions that virtually ensure her destruction? The Islamists aren't going to settle for a "reduced presence"; ultimately they won't settle for anything short of the destruction of Israel. The only question is how long will it take and how violent will it be?
Obama doesn't have the widespread undercurrent of rabid antisemitism to draw on in the US the way Hitler did in Germany. What he does have working for him, outside his own core of Jew-haters, is the ignorant notion that if the "Israel question" could only be resolved then all this irritating nonsense about terrorism would all go away and the "Religion of Peace" would become our friend.
You know what's frightening is how almost all of the horrors that RevereRidesAgain ticks off in her above comment are mainstream Democratic ideas these days.
