New Czarist Claim from Regulatory Czar: 2nd Amendment BALONEY

SUNSTEIN: My tentative suggestion is that the individual right to have guns as it's being conceptualized now is best taken as a contemporary creation and a reflection of current fears, not a reading of civic-centered founding debates. Modern gun owners who are invoking the Second Amendment on the basis of a principle they favor are perfectionists, not so different from older people who tried unsuccessfully - I'm pleased to say - to get the protection clause read to strike down mandatory retirement laws.

In terms of judicial developments, it is striking and noteworthy that well over two centuries since the founding, the Supreme Court has never suggested that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to have guns. Not once! It would be amazing - though, given that fact - don't be surprised if the first time it happens is in the next three or four years.

We have an FCC Czar who thinks the 1st amendment is an exagerrated...well " This freedom is all too often an exaggeration."

And now we have a regulatory 'czar' who thinks those who actually BELIEVE the 2nd amendment is real are some kind of ocd 'perfectionists'

How many of these incidents is it going to take before some people wake up?

If the FCC czar is not scaring them at WaPo when he threatens the 1st amendment directly, what will it take? An elected freak in reaction in a near future like Ron Paul with the powers gifted him by this SICK administration?

These guys are not playing footsy. The language they are using is direct. I take their words seriously.

They believe they are on the side of the righteous and the good and that the simple act of oppostion and defiance categorises you immediately as a right wing smear merchant nut or worse. These people are a danger to the republic.

THESE PEOPLE ARE A DANGER TO THE REPUBLIC

First off, I agree with you that the Obama Administration is a danger to the Republic, and I think it is appropriate that you repeat it three times, in ever bolder type.

We need to repeat that over and over, so that more and more people will pick up on it, and people will come to understand that what we are dealing with is a man completely outside the American Tradition, and currently operating (in the sense of appointing Czar's rather than Cabinet members) outside the Constitution.

I say: Sadly, Epa, you may be very prescient on this point. This is what happened in Germany post WWI. The German people swung back and forth from extreme right to extreme left until they elected Hitler.

Barack Obama may not be a Hitler. The most accurate comparison is probably Hugo Chavez. However, an Obama could lead to something worse in America, if Americans become reactionary in the way Germans were in the 20's and 30's.

Actually, I doubt it. I think we are having a very good national debate about the Constitution and the American Tradition, and I think that debate has only just begun.

I think we will emerge stronger for it.

Epaminondas,

And given the language of the 2nd amendment, what else does he think it could be? It doesn't really make sense to say that it was just for a militia.

I can not beleve how unaware or indifferent people are about what is happening. I have asked 6 people in the last few days if they knew of Van Jones. I get "Who is he?" I tell them, "He is a self described Commie working for Obama in the White House." They look at me like I am some kind of idiot. What is it going to take to wake these people up?

If one chooses to DILUTE the 2nd amendment via the 'militia' route, one is also compelled to recognize what a militia was then and right thru the civil war.

A bunch of guys picking up their own weapons in an ad hoc fashion to defend the neighborhood from whatever they had to, whether that was George III in the person of redcoats, or whatever.

The public order is ensured by the existence of armed citizens and the greatest long term threat to that order is the same as it has always been.

I've posted on Cass Sunstein a couple of times.

The first time I posted on him, commenters at my site said that I was being paranoid.

To date, I've seen little criticism of Cass Sunstein. Glenn Beck did mention him, now Epa.

In my view, Sunstein is dangerous beyond words.

AOW,
I agree.

Cass Sunstein is a, potentially, very dangerous person.

POTENTIALLY ...???

CHECK THIS

The body of this work puts him dead center in Mark Lloyd, Van Jones land

His position REQUIRES congressional approval .. which is ..'held up' for some reason.

Gee, I just cannot imagine why.

"A Constitution of Many Minds: Why the Founding Document Doesn't Mean What It Meant Before "

I want to see him defend that thesis in front of Sessions, Kyl, Graham, Cornyn and Coburn ON LIVE TV

Imagine if George Bush has nominated a regulatory chief who disparaged constitutional limits AND the meaning of the document today?

Can you imagine Chris Matthews? Brian Williams? Charles Gibson? Katie?

I hold the MSM as dangerous to this republic as this admin considering their actions and lack of.

It's SO bad it's starting to smell like Krupp, Bayer, and IG Farben in 1933. Fear of opposition and perceived advantage for cooperation. Some of them were believers, too.

Epaminondas,

Speaking of guns, I think you'll like this story.
