White House Orders Justice Dept. To Move KSM Trial Out Of NYC?

According to the New York Daily News:

The White House ordered the Justice Department to consider other places to try the 9/11 terror suspects after a wave of opposition to holding the trial in lower Manhattan.

The White House took the action hours after Mayor Bloomberg called Attorney General Eric Holder to say he would "prefer that they did it elsewhere."

"It would be an inconvenience at the least, and probably that's too mild a word for people that live in the neighborhood and businesses in the neighborhood," Bloomberg told reporters.

"There are places that would be less expensive for the taxpayers and less disruptive for New York City."

State leaders have railed against a plan to try Khalid Shaikh Mohammed in Manhattan federal court since Holder proposed it last month.

The order to consider new venues does not change the White House's position that Mohammed should be tried in civilian court.

"President Obama is still committed to trying Mohammed and four other terrorist detainees in federal court," spokesman Bill Burton said Thursday

Note Feinstein's statement:

"In my view, from an intelligence perspective, I think the situation has changed with the Christmas attack," Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said on MSNBC, citing confidential briefings. "I think the administration should listen to the mayor, listen to the mayor's concern, and, candidly, make a change. There's nothing wrong with making a change."

Get the hell out of here: No terror trial in city, but send funds for WTC sick NY Daily News

Alternate New York sites for 9/11 terror trial pose legal, logistical troubles New York Daily News

Obama signals 9/11 terror trial may be moved from N.Y.C. NJ Star Ledger

With recent reports figuring the costs per year running in the hundred$ of million$ of taxpayer dollar$ to hold each of these trials. . .expect the chorus of NIMBY begin!

He may play it as job growth . . .but more likely this is Obama's red pill.

The import of this is NOT about where the trial is (as long as there IS a trial.. we lose..and they get a great forum in front of a gazillion reporters), the import is that so many politicians feel free and safe to demand it be moved in OBAMA'S FACE. If this kind of thing keeps up, it will spread to other issues. Other marks of executive authority. Until he is politely ignored.

No, Alexander.

You misunderstood me.

Go back to the thread, copy it and paste it here. And then we can discuss it.

You keep saying I argued with you.

I was agreeing. I think we ought to kill KSM.

No trial needed.

He is our enemy.

Well, there's no shortage of fools it seems.

Mayor Valentine wants 9/11 trial in Newburgh, NY ". . .Nicholas Valentine said the relocation of the case would be a win-win situation

New York City would be relieved of the burden of trying the evil 9/11 attackers, and his own cash-strapped city of 40,000 would get an economic boost, he said.. ."

Newburgh is about an hour and a half north of NYC on the west bank of the Hudson River - just north of West Point.
