Both sides.

I dont think the dems have the balls to order the confiscations.

And I dont think the vast majority of gun owners will shoot the cops knocking on their doors.

Historically, citizen militias talk a good game but are the first to run away once the shooting starts.

Both sides are too conditioned in modern times to go much beyond tough sounding rhetoric. They think they can pacify the other side at a voting booth. A few outliers might shoot a few cops, before they kill him, then the cops will alter their tactics.

But wouldn't it be great to see a modern day tar & feathering.

In other parts of the world ..... https://nypost.com/2019/10/09/video-shows-mexican-mayor-being-dragged-through-streets/ .... they still know how to get other politician's attention.

I dont know, I'd love to see the Dems try it. And I'd love to see some of them taken out on the street in Richmond. But I dont see an organized sustained violent resistance that could overcome state and local police or the national guard with orders to put down the resistance by force. I think the passion of past times has dwindled to an insignificant percentage of our populace.

I guess I base this hypothesis on myself. I have more hats than cattle. I have a lot of guns. I wouldn't hesitate a second to kill someone with them if I felt myself or my family threatened. But that's not the same as shooting a cop at my door trying to take my guns away. Or going out and shooting the politicians that sent him there. I dont see myself getting in my truck and driving to Virginia to kill some cops or politicians either.

A lot of people talk about prying their guns out of their dead hands ...... and a few mean it ..... but the world changed between the time Lincoln was elected, the race riots of the 1920s, and Eisenhower and Kennedy sending the national guard into southern cities. People changed..... or enough of them did that the odds of a 2nd civil war over differences of political and social ideology have gone down to near zero. Future ethnic or religious based conflicts are another story. There's still sufficient passion involved.

Or at least I think the odds are better to disarm the American public than they are for the American public to violently resist the order to confiscate them. It ultimately depends on how violent government employees are willing to be to keep their jobs.

In Iran the other day, when the young protesters started talking about regime change, the Ayatollah ordered his guys to mow 1000 of them down on the streets. But that problem to bed overnight. Sounds barbaric, but dont think our government wouldn't do the same if their continuity was seriously threatened.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rebellions_in_the_United_States

But it wont be because for most of us guns are just another possession. We value our guns and liberty, but we value our life and prosperity more. That's the difference between us and the Virginians of 1860. They were .... or rather enough of them were ..... willing to place their liberty over theirs and their family's safety and prosperity. Same as the people in Massachusetts were a century before that.

But you cant just raise an army on the way to the battle anymore. And the ideological enemy is not as regional as in the past .... most congressional districts are nearly evenly divided, its a matter of leaning 5% to 10%.

The decline in passion has been a factor in the downfall of every past successful society. Those hungry for power they've never had are more aggressive than those that have lived in generations of prosperity provided by ancestors that were willing to violate someone else's human rights to provide it for them.

At any rate, sorry about the Christmas night rambling, but I dont see anything major happening in Virginia in the near future, just a bunch of talking shit from both sides between election cycles.

Remember the Koreans in South Central.

This country is made up of a bunch of people who are not fat, old pension-swilling Union Orcs.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?

"Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?...

"The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Read and heed, they ARE coming.

You have a good point.

I say they ARE coming because they are ALWAYS coming. If not today, tomorrow. If not this week,, next week. They never, ever stop.

The incoming House of Delegates may well blink this time but they will regroup for the next attempt. They will never stop until they succeed or are stopped.

I've lived in SC for 30 years. When I moved here the state sales tax was 4%. It is now 9%, 11% for prepared food, and 16% for alcohol. How did this happen? Because every election a tax increase is on the ballot. If it fails it is on the next ballot, and the next until it is passed.

Then a new round of tax increase proposals begins. And on and on it goes.

The left does not stop until it IS stopped. It is time to stop them. The Trump presidency has provided a time to take stock. It won't last much longer. And there will not be another one. Ether we love freedom enough and we deserve everything we get.

Happy New Year!
