What are those things to his left and right? Do they help control the light?

And they got on Bush's case for sitting there reading a storybook to little kids for another couple minutes instead of jumping up and running around like a chicken with his head cut off, on account of because he knew his security team and other aides had a few things to do an he'd just be in the way.

I guess it would have been better if he'd had a TOTUS to tell him WE'VE BEEN ATTACKED! SCREAM! RUN! TAKE A STROKE! TRAUMATIZE THE KIDS! UH UH ...

TELEPROMPTERS

Pastorius said...

No, I really didn't know.

So, that's what teleprompters look like.

It's friggin amazing to me that Obama uses teleprompers to speak to kids.

That's almost Michael Jacksonesque in it's weirdness.

In fact, there's a scene in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (wherein Depp plays Willie Wonka as being like Michael Jackson) which is similar. Willie Wonka introduces himself to the children by reading a prepared statement.

It's really strange. Kids pick up on adult insecurity. I wonder what the kids thought of the fact that the President is a fucking freak.

Ah, here's the scene.

Mind if I add it to your post?

Epaminondas,

The thing about it that looks really bad is that there are no children in the picture. Its a school. Where are the children. Are just not in the picture or are they scared of Obama or something?

Turns out the teleprompters were for the press conference, not for the kids.

He spoke to the kids casually, as one would expect from a reasonable man.

The video proves it.

Still, while I am relieved somewhat ..teleprompters for an impromtptu press conference at a grade school? How could it be known what reporters would ask, and if not, why bring them?

Schlepping these things around is now a basic Secret Service function?

Pastorius said...

I agree. It's crazy that he's bringing teleprompters for an impromptu conference.

One wonders if someone is typing in impromptu answers for him.

;-)

That thought brings some rather amusing images to mind
