Everybody, gets a peace prize

They gave a peace prize, to our president
Hed only been prez, for two weeks by then
The same time he takes, to dust his smokes
Some people call this, nobel prize a joke
But remember yall, Big O gives us hope
More hope for all man, even for the pope
This award aint for, anything he did
But for things he promises that he will
The first man to win, a peace prize for hope
Bankrupt America, The man is dope
Obama wants change, see it in his eyes
If you do to, youve earned yourself a prize

Im in the hot tub
Peace prize
Im doing some dips
Peace prize
Showing potential
Peace prize
Being a black guy
Gets a peace prize
Im making a sandwich
Thats a peace prize
Shes eating the sandwich
Peace prize
Its delicious
Heres a peace prize
Uh, yeah peace prize

The Nobel prize, aint given to fools
The whole committee, Went to greater schools
They thought Barack, Was Nobel worthy
they decided to, look at his story
He was voted to, be our president
Then they closed the books, The man is in
His namell go down, with other cool cats
Al Gore, Carter, Yasser Araffat
The prize aint always given to the best
Its got to be, politically correct
Thats why its not, everybody wins
For what not to do, Take a look at him

Liberate Iraq
You get no peace prize
Curb AIDS in Africa
No peace prize

Midnight Rider,

I knew you would love this video.

Wow, that tows a line.

I'd be interested to hear how black Conservatives feel about that one.

I'm all for balls out humor, but that one is uncomfortable even for me.

I'm not saying we should take it down. I just want to hear what other people think.

I'm a bit surprised you think it runs that close to the line. In what way?

Is it the parody of gangsta rap (which deserves to be parodied)? Blacks don't have a market cornered on that anymore (just drive downtown and see whose car windows are rattling the loudest. Sheesh :)

I think the lyrics pretty much say how stupid it was to give Obama the Nobel when he's really done little more to deserve it than someone mowing the lawn.

Anyway, I added lyrics. There are a bunch of comments at Youtube though I haven't read them yet.

Pastorius,

The man who appears in video when chowder sings, "Being a black guy
Gets a peace prize" is the youtube user Macho Sauce Production. He favorited this video, and it does not bother him. One of the problems we have here in the west is that sometimes we are a bit over sensitive and we make things out to be racists that really have nothing to do with race. For example there is a controversy with the latest Resident Evil game. Some think its racist, because of some of the portrayals of black people in the game, and the fact they main character is white, however they ignore a couple things. In fact it would only make sense that most of the infected people you would fighting would be black because it takes place in Africa, and most of the people there are black, and also there is a character who fights along side you as an ally, who's a black woman.

I agree with Midnight Rider here.

I did not mean to be critical of you guys.

I'm sorry if what I wrote sounded rude.

He are the words that echo in my mind when I see this video; "nigger rich."

Now that could mean I am the racist. Who knows?

Viewed another way, this video could just the modern equivalent of the Beveryly Hillbillies.

Certainly guys like Chris Rock, Larry the Cable, etc take the piss out of their own races. Why shouldn't we all be able to make fun of each other?

?

Like I said, sorry if I sounded rude.

I didn't take it as rude or critical at all. Just curious as to what you thought was overly, um, sassy :)

Pastorius said...

Sassy ...
now that's a good word for it:

Post a pic of that, please - "hunk of the week" a la "The Producers" (the movie version).

I think I figured out what bugs me about this video.

Obama is not like the Beverly Hillbillies. The Beverly Hillbillies turned on the comedy of people living the life of rich people when they have none of the "refinement" that usually comes along with wealth.

Barack Obama has lived a life of privelige from the beginning, so he has that refinement.

Now, of course, he didn't deserve the Peace Prize. For God's sake, he had only been President for 10 days when the voting happened.

But, Barack Obama is the President of the United States of America, he is no Gangsta Rappin' dumbshit.

So, the reason this video tows the line awfully close for my taste is because I am left to question, who is Crowder making fun of, Obama, or the idiots who think he's great.

It seems to me the line is blurred.

What do you think?

Damien said...

Pastorius,

Who is Crowder making fun of, Obama, or the idiots who think he's great?

I think the answer to your question is both.

Pastorius said...

Well, if that's true, Damien, and I suspect it is, what does any of this have anything to do with Barack Obama?

Barack is not Gangsta.

Barack Obama is a dignified, thoughtful man whom I happen to disagree with on almost everything. But, he is not a buffoon.

Damien said...

Pastorius,

I know full well that Barrack Obama is not a baffoon or a violent thug. He's very pleasant and very charismatic, based on those two reasons alone my mom correctly predicted he would be our next president when she first heard him speak.

However Crowder is not signing as Obama. He is not pretending to be Obama at all. He's basically as Rush Limbaugh would put it, "Illustrating absurdity by being absurd." By doing his "gangsta rap," he's trying to show how meaningless the peace prize really is.

If that does not explain it, maybe you could try and find Crowder's email and ask him yourself, if bothers you so much.

Pastorius said...

I understand what you're saying.

How about turning it around.

Sat there had never been a white President. And, one finally gets elected, and someone puts out a Karen Carpenter-style song called "My Daddy Bought Me A Peace Prize" , and she sings about how getting the Peace Prize is almost as good as her plush animals, and going to the mall, and receiving Hallmark Cards from her friends on special occasion, etc.

But, the White President was nothing like that.

Would it make any sense?

The video here repeats the line over and over, "I gots a Peace Prize."

Who got a Peace Prize?

Obama did.

So, who is the song making fun of?

Obama, and yes it is also making fun of the Nobel Committee.

Did Obama "gots a Peace Prize?"

Anonymous said...

Pastorius,

The video here repeats the line over and over, "I gots a Peace Prize."

If you read or listen to the first line it says "I heard it today, Barack got a prize". He's not saying he's barack, he addresses barack in third person. Crowder is not making fun of Barack in the sense that he is gansta...I agree more with Damien, he is actually making fun of the fact that he got a peace prize even though he didn't do anything...

the following lines "Im mowing the lawn
You get a peace prize
Doing the laundry
Thats a peace prize
Im grooming my dog"

demonstrate that.

I don't know if I am making any sense but I think your point doesn't stand for this one...and I say that with all due respect of course ;-)

Well Pastorius,

I guess I don't get the whole Americanism part--never been to America ;-)

Anywho,

My opinion: The video is funny. The black guy in the video is actually a co-worker of Crowder's. Also, I am neither white nor black, however, I think it should be alright to make fun of any race if its for laughs' sake. I don't know if that's what's going on or whether I'm missing something here.

Pastorius said...

I'll show it to my radio show co-host. He and I do some very over-the-top humor.

Let's see what he says.

Pastorius said...

Alright, so I played the video for my radio co-host and he thinks I'm nuts.

He says, "No, I don't think that's racist in the slightest. What's wrong with you?"

I guess wrong with me is I just get what reality the joke turns on.

Hey, you can't understand all humor, can you?
