For The Record, I Would Have Supported The "Dunk A Crucifix In A Jar of Urine Day"

Not because I have anything against Crucifixes, or because I want to make Midnight Rider's hangover worse, but because I am so into Free Speech that I want everyone to be as much of an asshole as they feel like being.

So, go ahead, dunk away, for God's sake. Who gives a fuck about how I fuck your mother, esse?

From Stogie:

Correcting Some Conservatives on Islam: Ann Althouse and Smitty

Not everyone is crazy about the idea of "Draw Mohammed Day." Alas, there are those conservatives with a shallow understanding of Islam, who have never read a book on the subject. I've read about 14, including the Qur'an, so let me set these folks straight.

Ann Althouse said:

I don't like the in-your-face message that we don't care about what other people hold sacred. Back in the days of the "Piss Christ" controversy, I wouldn't have supported an "Everybody Dunk a Crucifix in a Jar of Urine Day" to protest censorship. Dunking a crucifix in a jar of urine is something I have a perfect right to do, but it would gratuitously hurt many Christian bystanders to the controversy. I think opposing violence (and censorship) can be done in much better ways.
Here's why you're wrong, Ann.
We DO care about "what other folks hold sacred." Especially when what they hold sacred is oppression, murder and terror. We care about it enough to OPPOSE it, because it erodes our personal freedoms and encourages fanatics to continue their threats of violence.

Go read the whole thing.

This will fry you a bit.

I agree.

I don't have to like it, but I agree with the right of others to do so.

My problem has never been with the mohammed cartoons or Draw Mo day (both of which I think are pretty funny).

I admit, I do get tired of watching Libs/Lefties flog themselves creating gay Jesus' for plays and that kind of crap. Yeah, I think it's stupid and even, occasionally, irritating, but really, I don't care.

The God I believe in is so much bigger than Jeneane Garofolo.

Heck, the God I believe in is almost as big as Rosie O'Donnell

Whenever IN HISTORY a nation has changed it's oceanic one of no go past three miles, THE VERY FIRST THING the US Navy did was sail across it.

Last time was Libya and the Gulf Sidra in 1986.

This is no different.

CERTAIN muslims have decided their religious beliefs expand their zone of property and abrogation into our basic freedoms.

The rights of freedom must be exercised.

More, if treating islam NO DIFFERENTLY from any other religion is something to avoid out of fear of intimidation, and criminal acts, Islam has a problem, not our freedoms, and the ACLU who brayed to the jews of Skokie that the Nazis had the right to express themselves in their jewish neighborhoods, because only when the freedom of the most obnoxious is protected are our own.. HAD BETTER BE ALONG FOR THIS RIDE.

Ann Althouse is UTTERLY WRONG.

I agree. It is completely asinine that our government funds art.

Any artist who takes money from the government is a disgusting pig, in my opinion.

There's an ill-considered general idea floating around these days among conservatives that "conservatives" have to be special, so nice, so squeeky clean, so decent and loving that there will be nothing left to do but love them for being so darned nice.

I beg to differ. I look at conservatives, which isn't me, in the same way Jabotinsky looked at or demanded others look at Israelis: No different from anyone else. Ordinary and normal people who have good, bad, and indifferent people like all others. So too with "conservatives." Just folk. I don't see any need to be an angel. It's the "perfect fallacy," that if one isn't perfect, then one is no good at all. Not for me.

So if there are those who are obnoxious and post obnoxious things about Islam, it's a personal thing. Or, for my American audience, at personal "thang." e don't have to be nice to Mulsims just because. It's abut being a person of ones own self first, and if that's a shit, then so what! Any outrageous expectation is bound to be a failure that plays into the hands of our enemies. We're just us, normal and no different from any other group of mixed folk. I happen to dump on murderers.

I'm with CS. The problem was that my tax $$ paid for something that wasn't art. I know it wasn't art because I can 'create' the same work and so could a 2yr old. The definition of art is "It's something I couldn't do. Ever."
Spend your own $$, get a grant from some artsy-fartsy moron and knock yourself out. If you are an artist and you can't support yourself w/o gov't aka MY $$, you need to change what you call art or get another job.
Yes, I know how great art was financed in the past.
