Fox:
Gun battle reported in Watertown, Mass. after MIT officer killed in campus shooting
BREAKING NEWS: Police in Watertown, Mass., reportedly were in a gun battle with two suspects
who may have been involved in the shooting death of an MIT police officer early Friday.
Local news reports say the suspects had thrown and detonated explosives from their car.
WCVB-TV is reporting that suspects may be in custody, but that police appear to still be engaged in an active search of the area.
Dozens of officers and National Guard members descended on Watertown early Friday, according to the Associated Press.
Authorities were calling for somebody to get on the ground and put their hands up and a loud thud was heard after someone shouted "fire in the hole," the news agency reports.
Fox News reporters on the scene cannot yet confirm these reports.
Earlier Friday, Cambridge police and the Middlesex District Attorney's office said the MIT officer was responding to a report of a disturbance when he was shot late Thursday. He later died at a hospital. His name was not immediately released.
State police spokesman Dave Procopio said the shooting took place about 10:30 p.m. outside an MIT building. The area was cordoned off and surrounded by responding law enforcement agencies, according to a posting on the university's website.
Authorities told MyFoxBoston.com that the officer appeared to have been shot multiple times. There were no other victims.
Procopio said authorities were searching for a suspect or suspects. No arrests have been made.
The university described the situation late Thursday as "active and extremely dangerous." People were urged to stay away from the Stata Building, a mixed use building with faculty offices, classrooms and a common area.
The shooting came little more than three days after the twin bombings on the Boston Marathon that killed three people, wounded more than 180 others and led to an increase in security across the city.
=================================================
midnight rider updates and opines: The FBI is stating the suspect arrested at MIT is NOT related to the bombing. But he rest of this is supposedly related to a simple armed robbery. But the suspects were THROWING GRENADES AT THE COPS (according to preliminary reports). Not normal for a simple armed robbery.
Andrew Napolitano is now opining what I was thinking -- is this all part of a support group/conspiracy (in the true respect, not a conspiracy theory type thing) for the marathon bombers?
All reports are these current actors are armed to the teeth.
UPDATE FROM AOW: Associated Press is reporting that the two suspects are from a Russian region near Chechnya. The man on the run has been named as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, age 19. The two are being reported elsewhere as being brothers.

Fox is carrying it live as well. Very tense right now the FBI is making a point of saying they have no idea right now if related to the marathon bombings or not.
I just turned on the news.
Ye, gods!
Is there martial law up there?
Sorry AOW, I didn't think anyone would be up so I put up a post. And it appears above this one so not sure what's going on with the sticky situation.
